Im not really fiending, but little worried we are missing 1 starting TE, 1 starting CB, 1 starting FS, 1 starting Right Tackle and 1 nickle Corner. Especially from a secondary that struggled all last season.

Too funny, I came online just to post basically the exact same thing. I was gonna go with "I need a shot of adrenaline to stay alive, because this free agency is boring me to death".

How have we not burned through at least one 50 million dollar contract yet???? I know we don't have it, but we've been determined in the past to find a way to blow some money (cough cough Mike Wallace cough).

But I did hear we drafted RGIII last year, so that always brings me back to a good place.

He's better at it than Hall. I've seen him seal many games, and notice the falcons held on to him and released the other 2 starters grimes and Robinson

Terrible!! I mean, who wants corner picking off 9 or 10 interceptions a season?!

I think our RT comes down to Compton vs Pashos. That's as good as it's gonna get this year barring a major surprise. TE is Fred Davis or Paulson. Paulson started nearly half the season so I wouldn't say we are missing a starting TE, and we basically were missing a CB and 2 Safeties all last year :cheeky-sm so if we are only down 1 and 1, maybe we gained without knowing it.

He had 15 picks combined in the last three years.

Saying he's better than Hall isn't saying much. Hall is one of the worst rated CBs in the league.

Also, they haven't released Grimes as he's a UFA. Grimes was their Franchise tagged player last year and commanded a 10+ million salary. He's very much on their radar.

No deal between Brent Grimes, Falcons | ProFootballTalk

Robinson? He was cut purely for money.

Y! SPORTS
Robinson turns 31 in April and was entering the back-end of his contract, which had three seasons and $29.5 million remaining, including an $8 million base salary and $9 million cap number in 2013.
Considering Asante had the cheaper contract, it's not hard to see why they cut him over AS. You cut a player with a 8 million salary or a 3 million?

Even last year, DR had a much higher salary cap and it wasn't going to get any better this season.

Show me the numbers on how many TDs he's given up. I'll be waiting for it. I'm willing to bet you my house that it's been more than 9 or 10. Go to any Philly board and ask them what a liability he was on the field. He's a gambler. Sure his INTs are high, but it usually ends up with bigger stats when it comes to receptions allowed, yards allowed, TDs allowed.

CRedskinsRule 03-15-2013 06:41 PM

Rich Campbell made the point that Cason and DMC both took 1 year deals in this market looking toward next year when its not so crowded, but that points to an interesting question about our intentions too, have we been letting agents know that we have interest but can't do much this year?

cason is $2m 1year. wish we had gotten him for that. maybe talib is close and not going to NE.

i think the next best after that is winfield on a 1-2year deal.

Why Winfield? I don't want an old guy who lasts a year or two. I think we need to fill the corner position in the draft. Maybe we won't get an immediate starter, but we already have Crawford and Wilson, and then we would be better set up for the future.

That Guy 03-15-2013 08:51 PM

Re: Official Redskins Free Agency Thread 2013

cause we need someone to start for us this year... you just said it yourself. winfield is old, so he'd be in the price range if talib doesn't work out. we still need a safety and a #3 db anyways.

skinsfaninok 03-15-2013 09:01 PM

We are screwed at CB next year, especially if Hall doesn't come back. Doesn't matter if u hate the guy or like him if we don't replace him we will be even worse.

SirLK26 03-15-2013 09:05 PM

Re: Official Redskins Free Agency Thread 2013

Winfield might be an immediate solution, but what about two or three years from now? I suppose we'll just sign another old guy, then a few years later we'll sign another old guy. It would be much better to draft a guy who could start for us in a year or two than to sign an immediate solution. Anyway, Wilson could start.

I am a bit confused because you make it sound like we have to either sign a vet OR draft a young CB, but signing either Winfield or Talib isn't going to prevent us from drafting one or two CBs. If anything it simply means we won't have to throw a raw rookie out as a starter game one. We certainly will end up with 3 new CBs on our roster and camp and preseason will determine the starting day lineup.

Re: Official Redskins Free Agency Thread 2013

Drafting a corner this year is pretty much inevitable, so I just don't like the thought of wasting money on a veteran CB when we could be using that money elsewhere, on young guys.

artmonkforhallofamein07 03-15-2013 09:32 PM

Re: Official Redskins Free Agency Thread 2013

It would be shocking if they didn't draft 2 CB and a FS this April. We still need another vet or two as well in the back field.

They will figure it out. I got faith.

I don't understand your point, can you give an example of who that money could go to? what young guys would take old CB money to play for us?

That Guy 03-15-2013 10:15 PM

Re: Official Redskins Free Agency Thread 2013

um, first we will be drafting guys, it'd be stupid not to.

second, next year we'll have money, so if we feel the need to pay a FA it could be a good young CB.

we have no money, so if we can't afford a young quality cb, and the draft isn't a sure bet to get one, guess what? you sign the old guy that can play for ONE year until you know the drafted guys can play or you have the money to pay someone that'll stick around for a while.

redskins5044 03-15-2013 10:24 PM

I want them to draft a older CB and sign a young FA CB. Lol.

We have no damn money to spend so we are shopping at the dollar store this year and I love it. Build this team with the young guys we have, sign some affordable vets to fill some holes and then try to find some gems in this draft for the future.

Wow teams like Miami and Philly are spending like crazy while we are hamstrung with the cap penalty. This year we have no 1st rd pck no cap space and our defense was poor for much of the season. RGIII coming off a serious injury and we may lose Fred Davis, wow not sure how how we improve next season. Thanks NFL for sticking it to us when we became reveliant again on a National level. I live in Vega now and I see numerous RGIII jerseys and Redskins fans here. Im not sure if they are bandwagon fans or diehard fans like many of us who have been through the good and more recent bad years. I hope this crap backfires on the league and we get to the NFC title game. HTTR

Re: Official Redskins Free Agency Thread 2013

I am confident that we can find a starting CB and a FS in this draft. I also have got to believe that SS is a target as well. We do have Doughty and Merriweather but if the opportunity presents itself at the draft to grab a good one of those I wouldn't be opposed to it.

Add that to a possible return of Dhall or an equivalent and we will be ok. If we improve the safety play then the corners of even last year would have been better.

We also have to look at the final 5 games. The defense was much improved and yes even the back end. Haslett really did a great job in getting the most out of our guys.

We ended up getting man handled on both offense and defense during the Seattle game, so I would imagine we be looking to move to bigger guys on the back end of the D.

Pashos will be the T that ends up making the team, and I almost think he is going to be the opening day starter.

The solution we all should want is filling this position through the draft. I like Winfield in the interim because he is one of the surest tackling db's available. His leadership an work ethic would be useful while whoever we draft gets up to speed. That and his likely low salary/bonus are why I want Winfield.

Talib is a good cornerback with a troubled history. I was worried if we signed him, he'd get into enough trouble to make us look bad all over again. Battering cab drivers and using illegal substances, not sure how much I'd trust him for a long term deal anyway. I like the locker room we've developed and kinda glad we didn't go over the top to risk it with Talib.
