Best takeaway from that little sit-down:
We've worked with the personnel department and most recently the coaching staff to identify the guys we think will fit into our locker room and what we do, and if they make it to free agency there's no doubt their phones will be ringing.
LOL!! So, I was trolling the 49ers' forum and I love the attitude:

"Sounds like the Redskins have screwed this up royally with Cousins. They're going to pay a fortune tagging him 2 years in a row, only to probably lose him next year in Free Agency.

Either they trade him, or they lose him next year and only get a 3rd Rd comp pick in 2019. If their demands are bogus, no problem, just wait until next off-season to sign him.

No reason to include the 2nd overall in this. Cousins and the 49ers have more leverage than the Redskins do. We can sweeten the pot slightly so they get more than the 3rd rd comp pick they would get in 2019, but not by much. They can take it or leave it. "

It's interesting to read the different perspectives among other team's fans. The 49er fans really seem to want Kirk Cousins, and feel they're getting him whether it be this year or next year. AND, they feel they can get him for something just a bit more than a ham sandwich.

Yeah, they pretty much feel they can offer a ham sandwich this year and if the 'skins don't take it, they'll just take Cousins next year without giving anything up (besides money of course.)

I'd say if the 'skins were truly open to trade, they should trade with the Patriots for Jimmy G and a couple 2nd round picks just to cool the jets on 49er fans. This, of course, if there was not going to be a long term contract in the works. Otherwise, if San Fran truly wants Cousins, make them pull the trigger this year.

Please don't send KC to NE. Last thing I need year after year is Belichick and Cousins making us look foolish for not paying the man.

It wouldn't happen anyway. Honestly, I don't believe San Fran is as likely as people like to think either. Cousins would regress behind their offensive line.

Let me start by saying I like Kirk and I hope like hell we keep him. However, this is a good article addressing why the team might be hesitating.

It's all speculation because Redskins ownership is not communicating with the media. If they are forced to do a trade which one would you want them to take?

Option 1: SF

Redskins gets: #2 pick, #34 pick and Eric Reid

SF gets: #17 pick and KC

Option 2: Rams

Redskins Get: Jared Goff, 2018 2nd round pick

Rams get: KC

Option 3 Jets
Redskins get: #6, #38, Sheldon Richardson
Jets Get: KC, #17, #49

Option 4: Browns
Redskins Get #12, #33, #65 and Josh Gordon

Browns Get: KC #235

keep in mind the Redskins gave up 3 first round picks and a second round pick for RGIII. And he had not played in the NFL. I am not saying the 49ers are that foolish, but they are desperate for QBs. They need two.

I would want the 49ers 2017 picks #2 ...#34...#66 and two 2018 picks. The Redskins would keep their #1 pick #17

Or give KC 5 years . . . $125+ million and $60+ million guaranteed

I came here to point this out:
“Eric Schaffer, who’s a great guy and works hard for the Redskins, and I are going to get together this week,” McCartney told Pat Kirwan and Jim Miller on SiriusXM NFL Radio on Tuesday, just a few hours after the Redskins announced that they had placed the exclusive franchise tag on Cousins.
Note, that's Shaffer he's meeting with, our cap and contracts guy. He's not meeting with Allen. Why is that key?

Shaffer is authorized to negotiate $ terms on behalf of the Redskins, but he's not authorized to discuss trade compensation terms, that falls to Allen.

This meeting is to discuss $ figures. They may still leave the meeting with a major bridge to gap, but it needs to be noted this is a negotiation in earnest.

Could this be even better? Could it mean the Skins and Cousins have agreed to the basic parameters of a deal, and now McCartney and Schaffer are meeting to begin hammering out the finer points? You'd think Allen would be in that meeting if there were stil major $ figures to discuss

No I think Shaffer is charged with negotiating with McCartney to come to the best deal he can. When he's done, just like a car salesman Shaffer will go back to talk to his "manager". Basically, he'll go back to Allen when the weekend is over and say listen I've been able to get McCartney down to $__ per year, what do you want to do.

Then if it starts getting close, maybe Allen gets involved.

He won't waste his time with the early stages of negotiating. Shaffer will do that.

I hate that back and forth to the manager stuff. Maybe some day the NFL and the NFLPA will go to "No Hassle Pricing".

They're still quite far apart. I'm sure both sides would like to come to a resolution on this sooner than later. And hopefully both will realize having each other is the best scenario for the short and long term

Sounds plausible, but even if they are still far apart, going on Schneed's assumption that this is strictly a numbers meeting, that gives me some hope that trade talks would be the last resort thing.

Yeah the fact that it's a meeting with Shaffer is a very good thing. At the very very least, it means they're giving long term negotiations the old college try.

Doesn't necessarily mean that they can get close enough to agree (though I still think they will) but it at least unequivocally means that they're going to try.

I think if you're the Redskins, and you know you're never going to come up in your offers, then you don't even bother sending Shaffer to meet with McCartney. You just get started on talking trades, and that would be an Allen / McCartney discussion. And we now know that it's not - it's a Shaffer / McCartney discussion.

Re: Kirk Cousins 365 thread

looks like some negotiations have started:

Source (Lets Go Redskins):
Sources are reporting that the Redskins have offered Cousins a long term deal at $20 million per season. The franchise tag is worth $24 million. That is likely where any long term deal parameter lies. If you recall, the maximum offer for Cousins last season by the Redskins brass was $16 million per season. The fact the Redskins are offering $4 million below the franchise tag shows that any long term deal may be far off. Bottom line is, Cousins will likely command between $24 and $25 million per season and until numbers such as that are discussed, the Cousins’ saga will just continue to drag on. The positive news is the fact that discussions are occurring between the two sides.
Re: Kirk Cousins 365 thread

If the opening offer is $20M, and you know that McCartney's opening position is going to be $25M per year (which is just slightly higher than the tag), then it's very easy to see them coming together around $23M.

This deal gets done, guaranteed.
