Re: Potential GM/HC/Coaches Thread
Mike MacDonald or Dan Quinn I guess.
Interesting take from Diana Russini: @DMRussini Ben Johnson has made the decision to stay in Detroit. For weeks this option was always on the table. The Commanders knew they weren’t a lock and have been operating with this information. |
Re: Potential GM/HC/Coaches Thread
I have nothing against MacDonald. Will be a really good HC but we are going to draft a quarterback and if that is the most important player on a team, than I want the guy who made Goff finally look like a stud.
looks like ben is out the problem is with what you are saying is here he doesn't have the luxury of being just a oc/qb coach he has to wear the hc hat |

the problem is with what you are saying is here he doesn't have the luxury of being just a oc/qb coach he has to wear the hc hat
Bingo. Harris and Peters have been focusing on the leadership aspect of a future HC. I also feel like it will be important to know what their plan will be for hiring an OC and DC. I'm curious about Mike MacDonald, because he's analytics focused, and I know that's big for this new regime. |

looks like it was his asking price i heard it was close to 15 million a year wow

Oh well I guess it’ll be Quinn now because he’s bad 3 interviews

Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
not really, if ben johnson feels like he can't do the job , then i don't want him he could be a josh McDaniel's everything about ben was his potential as a HC; he has never been one still confused why they don't give Mike V a look |
Re: Potential GM/HC/Coaches Thread
Also lets not forget EB is still out there
|
Re: Potential GM/HC/Coaches Thread
Oh well. I would prefer an offensive minded coach over defense but guess that might not happen now. Still not big on DQ might be a bit myopic of me but we have already tried an NFC south defensive minded retread that was supposed to be a leader of men.
|
Re: Potential GM/HC/Coaches Thread
The Ben Johnson news doesn't really shock me. Getting so close to the Super Bowl with a team that has never been has to be deeply challenging goal to shoot for
|
Re: Potential GM/HC/Coaches Thread
I gotta chuckle 🤭.. All the noise about its 100% done deal Johnson to Washington .. yea ok ! It's gonna be the same with the QB in draft .. until it happens it ain't official ! I think this team is making a big mistake by not looking into Vrabel , but at this point I hope they get there guy BUT don't be surprised if Quinn is our coach ..This team needs a strong Leader at the top a no nonsense Head guy who gets the players ready to go ! The fact that Ben is staying with Lions tells me HE himself does not think he is ready to be a HC ..and for what it's worth I also thought Johnson was coming here .. but if he wants to stay with Campbell and his coaching style then so be it but if I'm Johnson I'm mad as hell at the stupid going for it on 4th instead of taking points on FG .. if he is ok with that then I don't want him here anyway .. Dan cost them with those Decisions!

That would be true if Snyder was still the owner. He is not and it would be a completely different situation if Quinn is hired. |
Re: Potential GM/HC/Coaches Thread
Well the BJ news is surprising
On to MacDonald or keep an eye on Glenn |
Re: Potential GM/HC/Coaches Thread
Also, way to sort of give all future teams that interview him the finger:
@NickiJhabvala Ben Johnson informed the Commanders and Seahawks today. The reason, I’m told: He wants to win a Super Bowl. |

on a positive note that shows you how tight to the vest this new ownership is about info that leaks |
Re: Potential GM/HC/Coaches Thread
Great decision by Johnson. He has a legit shot at making a run at the Super Bowl next year, can’t pass that up.
Next best option: Macdonald as HC and get Mark Brunell (qb coach) from Detroit to be our OC. |
Re: Potential GM/HC/Coaches Thread
Bummer - thought Johnson would be good although my first choice was Macdonald. Hope they land him. Not as interested in Quinn although I’ll keep an open mind. I trust Peters to get it right.

Honestly feels like he is gonna regret it, not just the Commanders job but a number of good jobs open this year, you have to take the opportunity when it presents itself and your stock is at an all time high. He is never going to get a market busting deal as a first time head coach so he may have to settle for a less than great situation a year or two from now. |

Quinn just looks like a miserable human to work for.
He always looks like he is timing your shits. |

This , he seems to miss the point of being a HC, especially if he wants that much money |
Re: Potential GM/HC/Coaches Thread
He may have a point
JP Finlay Also gotta wonder if the interviews kinda bombed. Harris and Peters stressed how important the interview process was going to be, leadership most important. If Johnson never wanted to leave, why take 2nd intvw, especially after NFC title game loss?
|

Maybe Johnson isn't ready to be a head coach at the moment. Who knows?! |

I agree with everything you wrote except for the Vrabel part. Vrable is old school all the way and he is not a fit here. |

Perhaps he's indecisive which should be a disqualification in itself. Anyway, he's out. I really don't want a retread. Perhaps Macdonald or Slowik will fill the bill. |
Re: Potential GM/HC/Coaches Thread
He's the past now, but still interesting
JP Finlay So Ben Johnson let Washington know he was out of the running while the team was flying to meet him, source tells me. That is going to look BAD if/when he wants more head coaching interviews next year or beyond.
|
Re: Potential GM/HC/Coaches Thread
Maybe, but wouldn't he know that already, why take interviews?
He may have been on the fence and got cold feet at the 11th hour. Regardless, he's not of the running. I'd now prefer Macdonald for our vacancy. |
Re: Potential GM/HC/Coaches Thread
and what happens if he doesn,t win a super bowl next year? i agree they have a legit title contender but that doesn,t mean he will so then what?thats a lousy excuse if you really think about it

Imagine our fan base on the verge of a SB and the OC leaves for a HC job after a devastating loss. We would pe pissed. So I have no anger toward Johnson. Of course I wanted Macdonald so if we don't sign him I may be more mad at Johnson. |
Re: Potential GM/HC/Coaches Thread
Not buying the excuse of him wanting to win a SB. Situation is a little odd to say the least.

Re: Potential GM/HC/Coaches Thread
He may have a point
It's been less than 48 hours since the devastating loss I think most rational adults might take a few minutes of reflection before making a life changing decision, But it doesn't seem like he had that option because the teams (plural) requested second interviews as soon as it was possible |
Potential GM/HC/Coaches Thread

he could be a josh McDaniel's everything about ben was his potential as a HC; he has never been one still confused why they don't give Mike V a look
Where did he say he doesn’t feel like he can do the job? That was last time around. Said he wants another crack at the Lombardi in Detroit. This is fucking devastating. What about Slowick? Has he commited anywhere? He is the only other guy I would be as happy about. Im shocked at this news. Damn. |
Potential GM/HC/Coaches Thread
Apparently was asking for a lot of money too. Maybe sensed he wasn’t going to get it and figured another year might get him his asking price?
Well, go fuck yourself Ben you greedy little bitch. I hope Detroit has the worst offense in the league next year and he never gets another interview. LOL. I always wanted Slowik anyway. Slowick MacDonald Glenn Weaver Quinn It will be one of them. That is my order of preference. |

It is bologna. He wants big money. He wasn’t getting it year one. At 37 he can wait another year. Slowik is the guy now. It is all about the fact that we are drafting a quarterback and Slowik or BJ would be perfect. Also people saying if you want EB gone it should be Slowik. Keep that in mind. |
