Re: The Most Fresh & Cordial Political Thread Ever
lots of missing nuance. part of Hamas's rise was due to fatah (the previous ruling party) being super corrupt, and the main selling point was that they wouldn't be. A lot of the people there are also tired of living in something of a prison-state. Not saying there aren't concerns (Hamas has always been pretty okay with violence against civilians, not looking for coexistence, etc), but part of the reason they're in power is because of how disliked Israeli policies towards Palestinians are there and that no one seems to be doing much about it. (Also, egypt and jordan really DO NOT want palestinian refugees, and Iran likes using them, but doesn't actually care about them).
the cause/effect chain goes all the way back to the founding. it's interconnected and messy. |

I'm just pointing out that the belief (that a couple of posters here have) that HAMAS is not popular in Gaza, were not put into power by the Palestinians or seized power is denying reality. |
Re: The Most Fresh & Cordial Political Thread Ever
Us sucking so bad makes me want to find something in regard to politics to be all pissed off about lol. But I'm in a pretty good place right now, so I got nothing.

Re: The Most Fresh & Cordial Political Thread Ever
Well, my party can't get their act together. I was hoping Emmer would be voted in, but I guess the MAGA wing or elements of it have decided they will not support anyone who is not MAGA. Unfortunately, that is most of the GOP caucus in the House and enough of that group won't support a MAGA guy. (Figure about 20+ MAGA on one side and 40+ or so non-MAGA on the other won't compromise). My prediction - The government will shut down on 17 November due to a lack of a Speaker.

Palestinian chose Hamas…a jihadist death cult style Islamist trash over the secular option back in the 2000s Super corrupt in the Middle East? I can’t believe it. Corrupt like this: https://www.nbcnews.com/news/world/gaza-plagued-poverty-hamas-no-shortage-cash-come-rcna121099 “Gaza is plagued by poverty, but Hamas has no shortage of cash. Where does it come from? Hamas has an investment portfolio of real estate and other assets worth $500 million, say experts, and an annual military budget of as much as $350 million.“ Hamas being eradicated would serve the people in Palestinians and Israel. Yet again Biden administration has failed in the Middle East. Their policy with Iran is the foundation of the terrorist attack and now the on going war. This is almost as bad as the Obama administration |
Re: The Most Fresh & Cordial Political Thread Ever
So why is all these Jew hating chanting, antisemitic marches in big cities and college campuses suddenly ok?
Is it because they don’t have tiki torches? Funny to see how these suddenly ok with the left and endorsed by college campuses administration. I guess that’s just nuance |
Re: The Most Fresh & Cordial Political Thread Ever

I guess what’s crazy to me instead of a group of 20-30 back woods rednecks, it’s hundreds to sometimes thousands white college educated or current college kids proudly engaged in this brash antisemitism in these demonstrations. Even some college professors and administrators encouraging it. Further proof of a serious mental health crisis among the youth https://www.newsweek.com/insane-number-gen-zers-support-hamass-slaughter-innocent-israelis-opinion-1837422 An Insane Number of Gen Zers Support Hamas's Slaughter of Innocent Israelis |

It's just a shitty situation all around. The only people I truly feel for are the innocent families on both sides who want to live together in peace. The supporters of Hamas/Israel's military aren't any better than the ones doing the killing. |
