Its not just Campbells mistakes and saying its only his first year, the entire offense needs to be looked at now. we have guy dropping balls, fumbling, all-pro lineman getting embarassed. So im not just waiting for Campbell to develop, im thinking there is a lot more to it.

If you don't put JC in a position where he MUST make a throw, then those throws do not happen. JC is going to be an upper echelon QB in this league, this loss was not on him, it was on Gibbs, Portis, and gimpy ass Moss.

Its actually 21 starts to 18, but I do believe that not only the time on the bench, but the KISS (Keep is simple stupid) playbook helps Romo. It truly not fair when you consider line play, weapons and maturity. You truly judge a QB equally after three to five years, not 18 starts.

Watching the Skins continually beat themselves is just too much. Are we ever going to get over the hump?

He's a professional QB, his job is to be in a situation to MAKE a throw. If he's not in that kind of position, then he doesn't deserve to be on the team.
Campbell needs to do a better job of not making key mistakes. 3 turnovers during key situations are horrible. Hopefully he'll learn his lesson.

So what do you suggest? Fire Gibbs? Wasn't the big complaint prior to Gibbs 2.0 that there was no stability because of Snyder? I'm all for POSITIVE change, but to declare Gibbs 2.0 a "total failure" and $***can him is pretty inaccurate and would do accomplish nothing but damaging the franchise further. Gibbs wasn't exactly handed a Superbowl contender 4 seasons ago.

Have there been mistakes made by Gibbs, absolutely? But, I think a majority of the problems have been with the coordinators and Gibbs' biggest mistake has been being to loyal to them and I think he was too loyal to Brunnel also.

Make your excuses for him all you want. Ultimately the head coach must bear the weight of a losing team. This is a losing team. Gibbs has the talent here, but poor coaching, poor personnel decisions and poor execution = another season of mediocrity. This team is 8-8 at best, and if that's the best he can do, then I say hire a GM and Russ Grimm.

Injuries had nothing to do with this game. We have been doing quite well with adjusting to the guys we have. The coaches had all week to prepare with the players available. The fumbles by veteran players placing a young QB in a tough situation is what lost this game for us. Campbell of course is also to blame because this will not be the last time he will be expected to lead us out of a mess. But bottom line is our key veteran guys let us down today.

The only resume on Monster.com for GM is Casserly. I agree that we need one, but where do you go? There needs to be some young upstart. College players are different now. The NFL is different. Personally, I would have preferred a Bethard hire over a Gibbs hire. If we make a change in coaching (Gibbs will step down - he will not be fired), I'd rather see Cower than Grimm. Mainly because if Cower is here, Greg Williams is gone.

10 starts in '06 and 11 in '07. But again, do the number initial starts really matter? If they do than the 11 career stats of Derek Anderson would make him 3 time better than Romo with far inferior talent surrounding him. No excuses, all I want is this franchise to be a Superbowl contender year in and out. You are absolutely right on the Head Coach being responsible for the success/failure of his team. But, we do not currently have playoff caliber talent on this team right now. Campbell will get there, but this is essentially still his first season, Portis is past his prime and not a good fit for our offense, or WRs are awful, our OL is playing with a backup RG & RT (an undrafted FA). On defense, our DL scares no one, Washington has been hurt, Fletcher is an All-Pro level player, our corners are average at best, Landry is a rookie and Taylor is out. Poor execution has nothing to do with coaching, that is on the players.

Are Greg Williams and Al Saunders good coordinators, I don't think so. Have the poor personnel decisions been their fault, yes. Lloyd and Randle El were hand picked by Saunders and Archuletta was hand-picked by GW. Gibbs isn't going to throw those guys under the bus, but I've said in other posts, after the season, Gibbs needs to go into the front office as the GM with complete control and a new coach needs to be brought in.

Is Russ Grimm the answer at Head Coach, I don't know. Arizona isn't blowing the doors of the offensive stat categories and Pittsburgh didn't last year either.

Well one more year will tell us if JC is the man or not. I would hope if the QB from Mizzou is available we would take him. Tough, cannon arm, quick, can run, smart. JC is good, but we have lost too many games on the last drive as a result of a late turnover as we are trying to stage a comeback like today. Gibbs isn't the man anymore.

Re: Redskins at Bucs game thread

Hey folks.
I think a lot of the problems have to do with us....the fans.
I haven't said too much this season and am as devistated as everyone on every painful loss....BUT...

This was a 5-11 team last year and the majority of everyone here thought this was a playoff team....I disagreed....I thought this was a 7-9 team, 8-8 at best....and though it is easy to buy into this 10-6 record crap....the defense is not a top 10 Defense...Greg Williams is a lot more passive than he claimed to be....Saunders hasn't done anything different

I've been calling from shotgun and hurry up offense since the beginnning of the season and they only let Campbell do this in the last 3 games.

The truth is....these games are devistating losses because Campbell is keeping it close....our team's talent and coaching is average right now.
Campbell is doing more than we can ask. He will be solid.
We have issues with Oline injuries WR talent, Dback injuries.
Miracuraciouly, the Dline has outperformed our expectations....which most of us are suprised about.

The truth is....this team is better than last year but is not a playoff team....most here are homers and made projections based off of their rose colored glasses....

This is a 7-9 type team....if they play better than that this year, we should be happy....they certainly are keeping us in all games and that is a good thing.

Unfortunately, all these close wins and lossses are giving me an ulcer.

Next year is the only year anyone could possibly project a 10-6 season.

Who is a FA after this season? 10-6 is a very generous mark for this team if we lose some key components. We are a bunch of maroons(Bugs Bunny) and dupes for always buying into the hype surrounding this team. Saunders and Williams are crappy at best. Gibbs is not the same man as in 1981-92, and is only a medicore coach anymore. We keep these maroons around another season, any real talent we have will bolt for other teams, then we will be in a constant state of flux. We are in trouble, big, big, trouble!

agreed, it way too early to start coming down hard on JC. Granted he's choked in the last two games (when it came time to win the game) but he's looked good at most other times. When was the last time that we had a QB that gave you confidence that we'd actually convert 3 and 9, routinely? Gus,
I believe you are overstating your opinion because you are pissed.
Saunders and Williams are not crappy...but they may be above average.
Gibbs is average and certainly not mediocre and I highly doubt talent will leave due to the coaching....in fact....I believe, the players will be embarrased that they didn't play better for them...especially Gibbs.

But I do agree that this certainly is not a 10-6 team, always have.
If they played 4 quarters instead of a half every game they would be....but....only top teams do that, and the Skins were 5-9 last season with essentially the same team.

Just being overly dramatic. But mediocre does pretty much mean average. How many titles has Saunders or Williams won being assistants(or as HC with Williams)? I have to hand it to Williams, he has come through more oft than not, but Saunders has been crappy. 700+ page playbook, dynamic offense my ass! Not sure next season is going to be any better than this one, just with the probable injuries we will sustain next season alone might drag us down again.

OK, so I don't post much. I read this site to calm my nerves after hard losses and revel in great wins.

I'm posting this to vent a little, so bear with me. I don't blame the skins, I blame the NFL.

I don't think the redskins have had a better staff than they have now. Would you rather have Norv Turner and Ray Rhodes? They were the last more successful coaching staff (If I remember right).

The problem is talent, and we are not alone. Look at the NFL standings. Who is really above the cut here? Patriots, Colts, Cowboys (pains me to type that BTW), Steelers, and Packers. Other than that, the rest of the league is mediocre (or really bad - but that's another issue).

In my opinion, teams like the jaguars, giants, seahawks, titans, broncos, eagles, ravens, panthers, bengals, chiefs, etc. have good coaches. But yet they fail to even reach .500 so far this year. Even the teams that are above .500 made it by just a few lucky plays. It's like a league full of even teams. I know that's the point of parity, but I think it's weak.

What I liked about the NFL B.F.A. (before free agency) was that when it was your turn to be a dynasty it was great. The playoffs used to be beyond belief. I remember several 14-2 teams not making the superbowl when I was younger. This year, if you are 14-2 you're in.

So far, the skins this year have proven to be even with the league. A couple bad plays and you lose, a couple good ones and you win. I'm sure it's exciting to watch if you're not a fan of the team and find every close loss excruciatingly painful like I do. There is nothing worse than watching your favorite team blow a lead or fail to tie or win when given the chance.

I don't blame Jason Campbell, the entire team is missing a player here or there. An extra defensive lineman, safety, cornerback, offensive lineman, receiver, or whatever could mean the game. The culprit is the salary cap. Would they have won with Antonio Pierce and Derrick Dockery? Maybe.

The point I'm making is that I don't feel like Joe is to blame. I wish they were better, but without better players, it won't happen. There used to be a lot of good teams in the NFL, now there are less. The skins are just in the 80% of teams out there that haven't found that magic number that takes them further. But whatever, I'll go back to lurking around now...

We aren't the most talented team in the league. We aren't one player away. But we are very competitive as is.

The fact that being competitive doesn't always translate to consistent winning has a lot of folks getting their panties in a bunch. You are 100% right that when competition is had, someone will lose. The concept of parity simply refers to competitive games usually breaking your team's way about half the time. A team that finds itself in a lot of games will necessarily be around .500 at the end of the season. The 12-4 teams tend to not be in a lot of games at the end, as well as the 4-12 teams.

The 9-7 team will decide 12-13 of their games in the final 5 minutes. We are 2-0 in O.T. this year. Not quite as good in regulation. We are a pretty average team. Some people see average as bad, others see it as average. Those who see it as bad think everyone else is being unrealistic, those who see it as average can see that those people don't really have a good perception of reality.

Anyway, great post.

You should post more often. :)
Rhaamses,
I'm the guy on the chat that you have been giving updates to...thanks so much....too bad it didn't go our way.
BTW....
I love Keenan!
sign him for 2 more years....he is clutch like cooley
Keenan has been a great pick-up for us, but I really didn't like the decision to put him in on punt returns. I'd like someone a bit more explosive back there.
I dunno. I'm torn when it comes to Saunders. His offense did manage to put up 320+ yards in a half against the #1 defense in the NFC. His offense also managed to put up 350 passing yards against Dallas. It seems like when the players execute, this offense can be dynamic. It's not Saunders' fault that Portis fumbles twice, Moss fumbles once, JC throws picks at critical times. But for those mistakes in the past two games and the horrid player execution against GB, we're sitting at 8-3 and people are talking about what a genius Saunders is.

People can say "Ifs" don't mean sh-t all they like, but dispute what I said above before doing so.
