My bong says Andrew Luck. LOL. I'm with you Dirt, I would love to have RG3, but I think we'll get a 2nd rounder QB.

Maybe Tannehill is the next Dalton?

My common sense says Bradford in a trade which I don't want. I'm hoping its Flynn. Draft wise I'm thinking Foles or Weeden since he will already have worked with them and like one of them.

Re: The "Inside Word" on the QB Search

My thoughts are: If MS likes RG3,then it will be him. I personally think trading up to the #2 pick will be a lot easier than we might think. I could be totally off base, but are we not considering the relationship of Fisher and MS? Fisher will defiantly do what's best for the Rams, but I would think Fisher will give his good friend every opportunity to jump into the 2nd pick if the compensation is comparable to other offers.

If manning is healthy Luck, if not RGIII
we aren't going to play games with a qb this year too much is at stake.

I think the price to move up for RGIII will be too high, unless Cleveland decides not to draft him and we trade up to #4. Shanahan isn't selling the farm.

I think we go Tannehill in the first with Noles in the second round if we decide to draft another position in the first.

Losing picks for RG III is dumb. I used to think he was the shit, but his size gives me concerns, but the real reason I don't like trading up is that we still have a lot of holes to fill. I don't see why the Okie St kid is not on the radar as much, just because of his age. It is not like any of our SB QBs, other than Joey T, were here for very long after they won the SB anyway. Weedan is tall and has a pretty decent arm. The extra years added on might help with poise too. Not saying go for him for sure, but I think that option should just be out there. Also what about Kellen Moore or Case Keenum? It seems like we focus on QBs we can't get without giving up picks.

Price to move up like that is always a future first rounder or like 2 second rounders. Sorry, but second rounders have good starting potential.

Jason Laconfra or however you spell his name is reporting that there is a rumor around NFL execs that the Skins are planning to trade up with the Rams to get the #2 pick in order to take RGIII or Luck if the Colts take RGIII. Supposedly our #6 pick and several later round picks.

He also said Manning is off the table cause we don't have an OL to protect the older and now easily injured Manning so he probably won't want to sign with the Skins.

Personally let us take whoever is available at #2 and hopefully we still have our 2nd round pick and just pick up another Weeden or Foles. Get our WRs from FA for the passing attack.
Unless we are able to pick up Flynn to challenge whoever we draft.

I wouldn't be surprised if MS and Fisher already have a gentlemen's agreement to trade picks, or at least to give the Redskins the opportunity to match any offer.

Skinsfan, I honestly don't know. I kinda hoped we could nab one of the Saints WR's and possibly one of the 8-10 other decent WR's that will be available in FA.

People are probably gunna say I'm over killing it QB wise but if we pick RGIII and he's not ready or for some reason can't play or Luck and it's the same situation we will be screwed. I'd rather have too many decent QB's and be able to trade one away next year if need be then to not have anything like this year went. My perfect world...

Flynn/RGIII
or
RGIII/Weeden or Foles
or
Luck/Weeden or Foles

Basically if we can pick up a FA QB then I can see us taking RGIII and not worrying about whatever else happens in the draft. Win/Win. If we can't get a decent FA QB then I'd prefere we get two from the draft, hopefully one of the top two and it would be nice to pick up a 2nd rounder to challenge each other. Obviously if we are subject to having to pick up 2 QB's in the draft then I imagine we will have to pick up decent WR in FA to work in with what we already have.

And giving us no chance to win applies equally if not moreso to Grossman yet there isn't near the amount of animosity towards him.

I think its more accurate to say Beck played almost as poorly as Grossman yet under far worse circumstances.

Its like no one really wants to look at or discuss how Beck actually played or even his stats.

Which is why I'm not a fan of tossing everything just to move up. If they do I sure hope there is a plan "B" like a FA QB brought in also.... someone decent to either challenge or be able to step in if the Rookie is not ready. I'm not a fan of two Rookie WR's but I like what I'm seeing from Weeden's practices at the Senior Bowl. He's making all the throws today, dropping the ball where only the WR can catch it and even the announcers were speaking highly of Weeden.

I'll say this... Many people go straight to Weeden's age...

But what if he comes in as a rookie and plays like Andy Dalton? Then is his age a huge issue? I mean, a good QB plays through 34-35.

Brees was 33 this year, Brady is 34, Eli is 31, & brother Peyton won his SB at 30, lost one at 33... heck, Elway was 37 & 38 in his SBs... also see Kurt Warner, Brad Johnson, and Rich Gannon.

By my count, he could be at least 6 to 8 year run of good QB play for someone possibly.

I could see Weeden being this year's Dalton for sure.... why not?

Weedon is definitely the one of the best quarterbacks in the draft. Because of his age, he may be the most mature of all the quarterbacks entering the 2012 NFL draft. As the old saying goes, age ain't nothing but a number. What if Weedon does what Big Ben did in his rookie season?

The problem with Weeden is that age is a factor. He's in his prime now so chances are he won't get much better while other QBs have that luxury.

Here's my opinion on Weeden. When he went head to head with Andrew Luck the one thing that stood out to me was Weeden actually attempted and completed more NFL throws than Luck. Weeden was shooting lazers deep into the heart of their pass defense. He wasn't going for the easy dink and dunks, or only throwing it down field when the reciever was wide open by a country mile like Andrew Luck did. I really like Weeden and wouldn't be dismayed at all if we decided to take him with a 2nd or 3 round pick.

CultBrennan59 01-25-2012 01:03 AM

Re: The "Inside Word" on the QB Search

Heres a couple quick thoughts I have on Weeden;

- He may be old, but he's a pocket-passing QB, those guys have shelve lives for a long time. Vinny Testeverde played tell he was like 45-46ish?

- Kurt Warner entered the NFL as a 28 year old, he left as a 37 year old who took 2 different teams to the super bowl and appeared there 3 times.

-Mike Mayock said today that everyone should just stop with the comparisons of Chris Weinke to Weeden, that Weeden is a much better passer and polished QB than Weinke.

-Lets also not forget that Weeden threw to a 2 time Fred Biletnikof receiver, and first rounder, Justin Blackmon. That really helps, and makes you wonder what he can do when he doesn't have a big name great WR.

Age doesn't matter much to me know, because QB's are honestly just a few years off from a kicker or punter, and if you have one that can get the ball out fast, is smart, and has a good arm, well he can play till he's 40 something to be honest.

7) Brock "Lesnar" Osweiler

Ok, #'s 1a & 1b might be gone by the time the Redskins can pick, I still can't fathom what it might cost to move up and if we can do it why wouldn't the Browns with more ammo go after a franchise QB since they don't have one either?

#2 deciding not to partake in the Senior Bowl is not helping his status.

#3 did not look as sharp today or very big compared to his counter parts.

#4 I forget what the knock on him was, sorry but he and the Lindly kid are last on my list.

#5 Weeden has done nothing but improve his stock for me. Won his Bowl game, against Luck, threw all the passes to include the deep ball perfectly, showed up for the Senior Bowl in shape, and has been tossing the ball pretty well to include rolling out and throwing the ball in a similar system the Skins use. I say similar cause it's a watered down version of what we do but he looks good doing it.

#6 Lindly I think if I'm not mistaken is too short at like 5-9 or 5-10.

#7 intrigues me cause he is like 6-8 and supposedly. An make decent throws.i think this kids knock was being able to read defenses.

I understand the concern about Weedens age and as mention Mayoch(spelling) said this kid will be someone you bring in and either start immediately if you can get him to understand enough of your offense or start within a year or two cause he will most likely play into his 30's.

My second reason for him is he is mature and hopefully will make better decisions because of being more mature.

My last reason is because he is right now learning some of our offense and picking it up well and looks good and he buys us time to look at other QB's in the next few years to start developing without having to toss half of our valuable draft picks this year and next year to get.

He's someone we can take in the 1st that will already know the coaches and some of the plays and the coaches will already know him and what he needs to finish learning and still have a full compliment of draft picks to pick up other offensive weapons to help him out vs. tossing half our picks away at one QB whom we won't start picking up help for until round 3 or 4. We need more WR help whether you guys realize it or not. Our 3 top WRs are Moss(aged), Gaffney, Armstrong(50/50), and Hankerson. The rest really didn't contribute except Stallworth who was let go mid season and brought back. Hankerson still has to prove himself, and Armstrong could have been only a flash in the pan we shall see if he takes his mediocre play to heart this year and steps up or not.
