Re: Official Redskins Free Agency Thread 2013
Didn't want Talib(an) anyway. And this is good news because it pressures the FO to shit or get off the pot in the db sweepstakes.
|
Re: Official Redskins Free Agency Thread 2013
To be honest, I don't want any of the remaining defensive backs that are left. Looking towards the draft now. I expect 2 CBs and a S in the draft. Safety in the 2nd and CB in the 3rd and 4th.
|
Re: Official Redskins Free Agency Thread 2013
Whatever the Skins do they had better do it right now. There are very few decent CB's left to sign. If the Skins don't move fast there may not be a Plan B available to them. With that in mind, I think we can expect a quick signing.

Can somebody tell me why we need AJ Smith as a GM advisor? That guy single handedly destroyed the Chargers!'

He's here to evaluate talent, not to make any GM related decisions. |

wouldnt mind that, but winfield or hall i think would only help. I agree though 2 cbs and a safety. I want Cyprien or Swearinger later in the rounds. |
Re: Official Redskins Free Agency Thread 2013
Xavier Rhodes, Matt Elam, Eric Reid, Jordan Poyer, Baccari Rambo, Johnathan Cyprien, Tyrann Mathieu, Shamwow Thomas, Johnathan Banks, DJ Swearinger, Ray Ray Armstrong and more.
There are plenty of Defensive back sthat will be there for the choosing for us next month. I expect that we will get three of them. Not to mention we have Richard Crawford, Chase Minnifield, and Jordan Bernsteine all returning next season. Our secondary will be young next year but I feel we will be fine. |
the same 3CBs will be available next year(think their agents didn't explain Skins situation to them) and clearly we aren't willing to offer the going rate of $5mil a year. I imagine that would either force restructures we don't want to make, or give up on trying to get FD.
At this point, I would see what Winfield would take, and if not there go with rookies. it may not be the best this year, but it would let us know where we stand as we look at these CBs again next year. better game plan to score 40 pts a game Kyle. |

Cyprien might not make it past SF but I want Cyprien/Thomas, Mathieu, and Swearinger. Maybe with Armstrong as a 6th or 7th rounder. |
Re: Official Redskins Free Agency Thread 2013
I'm thinking we try to sign DHall back and we give the duo of Jackson and Merriweather at safety and hope our depth lasts.
I'm excited for another year of Crawford and hopefully the emergence of Chase Minnfield. |
bottomline: 18M gets you the top FA CB + Safety and resigns Zo and FDavis. That's how to define the cap penalty.

True, hey it happens. |
Re: Official Redskins Free Agency Thread 2013
One week of free agency and we haven't addresed any of our needs by signing a top flight UFA, we're doomed!!! I mean, based on how well that strategy has worked in the past, we know it is the only path to success!
Oh ... wait ... |
Re: Official Redskins Free Agency Thread 2013
Chill. Next man up. We had a horrific secondary this year and won the East. Maybe we take a step back, maybe we take a surprising step up (who knows, maybe we get the AlMo of CB's this year).
Relax. Shanallen has a plan and the plan is good. |

I agree with you. I didn't think Talib was a good fit in Haslett's defense anyway. We aren't going to be able to spend money in free agency this offseason any damn way. The only options are to make a trade for a corner, draft a corner, or develop someone we already have to replace D. Hall. Jim Haslett and Mike Shanahan should throw the kitchen sink at Richard Crawford and see how good he really is. After that 6-7 game hiatus last season, he came to the forefront. He'll struggle some in coverage but Crawford will make plays on the ball also. |
Re: Official Redskins Free Agency Thread 2013
He signed for one year.
My point being that we would have signed him to a multi year deal to spread the impact of the cap hit this year. I highly doubt that we were looking to sign him for a year. That was my point. |
Re: Official Redskins Free Agency Thread 2013
Bringing back Hall for a 1 year deal isn't sounding too horrible right now.
|
Re: Official Redskins Free Agency Thread 2013
At this point I'd try to re-sign Hall and C. Griffin and focus on the draft for more secondary help.

Re: Official Redskins Free Agency Thread 2013
Bottom line. This sucks. We will see ramifications of this cap penalty for the next couple of years. We lost key guys who we would normally have been able to keep. Example : Alexander..... and we can't upgrade at any position for the most part. The only way outta this is if we nail solid starters on 4 of our 7 draft picks.

except he may never play. his knees are REALLY bad. that's why he wasn't drafted. |

No, it's not krazy talk because of the restrictions to the salary cap penalty. At this point without money to spend, it's better to bring back the guys that have shown a commitment and played well for us. Although I differ with those who feel Hall should be brought back, I agree that we should bring back Cedric Griffin. Hall is okay and he plays well from time to time but he just gets beat too much. |

Dude you and a couple if other people here need to stop with this guy. A he's never played an NFL game B he is coming off of 2 torn acls on the same knee and micro fracture surgery which basically makes you prone to more surgeries. Show me in the past a CB who has had micro fracture and or more than one knee surgery who is/was still playing at or near their career numbers. CB, RB and WR are 3 of the main positions in the NFL where you can't have guys cutting hard and fast on multiple knee surgeries and/or micro fracture surgery. |
Re: Official Redskins Free Agency Thread 2013
IMO we will probably trade back, and draft at least 2DB's & 2S's, let other teams sign all these FA's just means better players will fall to us.

BPA of need (so basically anything but OLB, QB) |
Re: Official Redskins Free Agency Thread 2013
Is Minniefield even able to run yet?
|
Re: Official Redskins Free Agency Thread 2013
The last time I read anything about him was a month or two ago. Basically stated he tore his ACL in June and had the surgery to fix that. He said he felt good about where he was and how he was able to spend a lot of time in the team meetings, film room, and of course the training room.
I would suspect that with him being almost 9 months removed from the ACL surgery he would be doing some running now. But what do I know I am not a Dr. Still this guy as great as he could have been possibly as a very remote chance of having success in the NFL. |

Every year we "win" FA we lose games. I'm content with the draft to fill needs. We develop a winning atmosphere and guys will come here for less not just view us as a payday.

Re: Official Redskins Free Agency Thread 2013
There's a different in giving an over-the-hill FA a boatload of cash and improving your team with younger/role player talent. Like most things in life, building a team requires a balanced approach. Good drafts and FA pickups. People forget that some of our crucial players are FAs. Fletcher, Moss, Garcon, Bowen, Carikkier, just to name a few.

Re: Official Redskins Free Agency Thread 2013
I do think the Chicken Littles up in here need to take a pill. Our secondary will be so much better next year because of the presence of Brandon Meriweather alone. They will come up with a passable CB either through the draft or through patience in free agency.
And has everyone forgotten how Reed Doughty performed at the end of the year? Dude may have turned a corner. |
