WTF do we do with him? Don't we have Helu for that kind of thing?
Let him score touchdowns. Thats all he really does. |
Re: Current 2014 Free Agents
Hmmmm.......
I like Sproles but he's 30 years old....... Who gets booted off the roster for his spot? Royster? |
Re: Current 2014 Free Agents
Morris, Helu, Sproles would be a nice RB group.

Re: Current 2014 Free Agents
We can't go out and pay Sproles a lot of money as he's a role player. We might have that kind of player already on the team in Thompson. Hopefully he grows up and improves his play. But no way should we sign Sproles with all of the other needs this team needs.

You got count the ROI. |
Re: Current 2014 Free Agents
We still keep Thompson until final cuts.

Gotta shake the 'all things shiny are bad' mentality to free agency. It's as ludicrous as the 'all things shiny are good' way we used to think as an organization. If a player is a fit, improves the team and can be signed for a reasonable amount, smart teams make that move. Not specific to Sproles but free agency in general. |
Re: Current 2014 Free Agents
Andrew Hawkins is a RFA at the Low Tender of $1.4MM. The Bengals have the right to match any offer and keep him.
Hawkins would be a great addition to the Skins as a slot receiver, IMO. Hard to say if the Bengals would match a reasonable offer but I read they would like to keep him. |

Re: Current 2014 Free Agents
Whatever $ we'd spend on Sproles, I would far rather spend getting TJ Ward (or another starting safety), a FA guard or RT, and/or re-signing Riley. We just don't need Sproles nearly as much as we need help in those other areas. Not even close in my view.
|
Re: Current 2014 Free Agents
ESPN's John Clayton's "early prediction" is the Redskins will sign free agent CB Aqib Talib.
It's growing clearer and clearer that the Skins are simply going to outbid the Patriots for Talib. That would allow New England to focus its efforts on re-signing Julian Edelman. Talib is likely staring at $10 million a year. |

Why is it either or? If the $ makes sense, why not both? |

I see no one wants to sign anyone, so lets just shell the same team out there next year.

With all of the numerous needs we simply can not pay a back up 30 year old rb and special teams player several million dollars. |

I just don't want to see the same old crap we always do cause that doesn't work. I'd almost wait for the first wave to go by. Let the Miami's of the world overpay and then try and find some solid bargains on that second round of signings. |

How much money do you think Sproles will get? |

I don't know, maybe a couple million tops. If I were the Redskins he's not even on my radar. I don't make that signing at all. |

Some FA signings have worked. I think Sporles at the right price is a bonus for this team. A lot folks fears is just they don't understand the whole picture $$$ wise and how the cap works; so they think if we do X we can't do Y. |

Why not he fills several holes(ST&RB Depth); you got pay someone why not him. |
Re: Current 2014 Free Agents
To me Dri Archer is a better option that is younger, faster, and cheaper at this point than Sproles.
Sproles could be Randle el part 2. |
Re: Current 2014 Free Agents
im torn on sproles. i would have liked to sign him before 2011 vs now but it seems like he got limited use last year so he should be fresh and it seems gruden places a high value on a catching rb.
cooley made the case for signing hester at a reas price and using him out of the backfield. he also sd hester provides a lot more value in the return game then just retunging kicks bc the opposing teams whole ST spends all week on directional kicking and doesnt have time to focus on other aspects. i think id pass on hester though. and i apologize for starting every post with what cooley sd but im really liking what i hear from him. side note - what does a 5 0 ("five ohh") call by the offense at the LOS pre-snap mean? jailbreak/hot read? |
Re: Current 2014 Free Agents
In regards to Sproles. Let's remember, it takes two to tango in FA. Think of it from Sproles' perspective. Why would he come to a team that has a young, talented, 3 down type back on the roster and no real hope of winning the Super Bowl in the near future. If I'm Sproles I'm looking for a few things.
1) A competitive team. Get another SB ring. 2) A team that will showcase me in the offense. 3) A team that will pay me. He could potentially get #3 here, but that's it. I think it would be a mistake for both sides if we went after Sproles. Save that cash and put it towards locking up players for the future. He's nice to have. We already have a pretty nice backfield. I like what I saw from Helu last year and Morris played great again. |

Re: Current 2014 Free Agents
From Sproles perspective he is not a running back in the traditional sense, so having a 2 down back on the roster doesn't matter. Redskins have a dynamic QB (when healthy), they are in a weak division, and are one year removed from being NFC East Champs. Can Gruden use Sproles like Payton did? If so it is a easy decision... yes to Washington
Based on ur logic Daseal, everyone would only play for Seattle, SF, Denver and the Patriots |

Re: Current 2014 Free Agents
Alfmo's greatest weakness is catching passes. Sproles does this as a strength. Plus Sproles can return kicks.
That said, to sign Sproles is to sign the older and theoretically slower Sproles, not the Sproles of 2010. So I won't miss any sleep if we don't land Sproles. |

there is a reason why Rivers and Brees coveted Sproles

If we were a SB contender, maybe like New England or Seattle then that signing makes sense. But we're not there yet so no need to sign a 30 year old back up RB to several millions. Again, I try and get someone on the team that's had a year to gather himself, learn the ropes and come in and try and fill that roll, that doesn't make a lot of moeny....Chris Thompson. |

You said yourself he would get 2 million, that is not several, Thats barely anything, and he isnt just a 30 year old backup |
