Re: Redskins Free Agents Signings Thread
Nope
He was a guy Shanny BA and I would assume Morris liked. He had two years on a WR core that was sub par to prove he was worth something. He didn't time to move on... |
Re: Redskins Free Agents Signings Thread
I think is was a smart move to resign Brandon Merriweather. I also think we should sign Ryan Clark to a 1 yr. deal for the right price.

What is the right price ? apparently Clark was underwhelmed by the offer he got from the Skins |

the NFL minimum for a 12th year player is $955k....... that does not leave much room for negotiations |

Then i say we offer him $955,000.01 |
Re: Redskins Free Agents Signings Thread
a vet min contract only counts 500k against the cap i do believe. and what he gets isn't important to anyone except danny and BM. his cap number is all that matters to anyone else.

it appears moot, Clark was offended by the offer, and I doubt the Skins get him |

Ryan Clark is on the NFLPA Executive Board, can't imagine he'll play again.
|
Re: Redskins Free Agents Signings Thread
Ryan Clark is on the NFLPA Executive Board, can't imagine he'll play again.
Is it because he would have to set an example as an NFLPA leader by not accepting a contract he deems to be less then market value or he feels its just not worth it at this point? |

actually the Redskins were awarded Moore, which means more than one team wanted Moore |

Camp body, but it looks like where looking to increase the height of the DL, I guess blocked passes are what where looking for. |
He played for 3 colleges??? Don't hear of that too often.

Moore played one year at the University of Texas after a college career that did not go as planned. He originally signed with the University of Alabama in 2009 – redshirting as a freshman and serving as a backup in 2010. He was placed on indefinite suspension in 2011 after a violation of team rules. Moore then transferred to East Mississippi Community College and, eventually, Texas. Moore started five games for Texas, registering two sacks and eight tackles for a loss. Redskins awarded Moore off waivers - Washington Redskins Blog - ESPN
Three colleges because of a suspension for "violation of team rules". But still good enough to transfer to Texas and get drafted.. Three NFL teams is a more concerning red flag. Perhaps we can get lucky and coach something out of him.. |
Re: Redskins Free Agents Signings Thread
Rich Tandler listed 5 FA's who he thinks the Skins should continue to pursue:
S Ryan Clark—They still need an experienced safety and Clark could fill the void until Phillip Thomas and/or Bacarri Rambo are ready to play. I agree. He would be a leader and mentor in the secondary, IMO. Also, he already knows the defense. He may need some time to get used to the idea that he's not going to get the contract he would like to have at this point in his career. OLB Anthony Spencer—As noted here yesterday, the Redskins still need some depth at outside linebacker. Given the microfracture surgery he had last year he might not be the ideal option, but there aren’t many out there. Again, I agree. If it looks like he is going to recover fully, we would be in a position to wait for him. Medium risk, very high reward, IMO. He may turn out to be a great signing for some team. WR Robert Meachem—I get the feeling that the Redskins are going to add another veteran receiver as insurance in the event of either a problem with Leonard Hankerson’s recovery or the inability to land a receiver in the draft. Meachem hasn’t been very productive the last two seasons (average 15 rec., 265 yards, 2 TD) but he has size (6-2) and speed to be a contributor as a No. 4 wide receiver. I disagree. How many #4 receivers do we need? We'd be better off signing Kenny Britt if management believes that they might be able to help him turn around his career. Then we're looking at a potential #2 receiver. C Brian De La Puente—The former Saint is still out there after visiting the Redskins last week. At 306 pounds, he’s could easily get up to Jay Gruden’s ideal size for a center. At age 29 he’s a medium term solution in the middle of the line. To me, this would depend entirely on the contract. Kory can play center, but if we could get De La Puenta, it would definitely strengthen the OL. OT Eric Winston—...there are few options left that would be a clear step up from the much-maligned Polumbus. Winston has a chance to be one of them and he could be a good fit as long as they don’t pay him like he’s the savior. I'd be OK with Winston. Tyson Clabo might be an option, as well. He didn't mention Owen Daniels but I like the idea of giving RGIII another weapon, plus I think we need some insurance at receiving TE. |
Re: Redskins Free Agents Signings Thread
The only one of those I would approve of is...Eric Winston! Somewhere, JoeRedskin is sighing.
In all seriousness, Clark is too old, Spencer would be asking too much considering his age and the injury, Meachem is just another mid-tier WR(wouldn't mind him, but I'd like a legit #2), and De La Puente would be a decent signing, but would push Kory L. off the roster(considering his salary). Winston would be a clear upgrade, for a few years, anyway... |
Re: Redskins Free Agents Signings Thread
I like the idea of Phillip Thomas starting at SS.....I wouldn't mind Clark returning....his experience would be a great addition.....but Thomas should be hungry and eager after missing his entire rookie season....

If we were to sign De La Puente, I don't think Kory would be going anywhere because he is a good, versatile OL and we'd still need a backup center. Besides, I don't see anyone on the roster who I think would be likely to beat out Kory at OG. |

Me, too! You and I may be his biggest boosters. I loved the guy coming out of college. Let's hope he's fully healed and ready to compete. |
Re: Redskins Free Agents Signings Thread
Per Rotoworld:
The Redskins plan to use Shawn Lauvao at left guard. For now, at least, undersized Chris Chester is staying at right guard, with Kory Lichtensteiger penciled in lightly at center. Lauvao was a right guard in Cleveland, but struggled there and the Skins apparently believe he'll be better off playing next to LT Trent Williams. Lauvao's contract was among free agency's biggest head scratchers, receiving $17 million over four years. There is next to nothing in this article that makes me feel better about our OL. So far, I feel that the Skins have failed to significantly improve the OL in FA. I don't understand why the Skins overpaid Lauvau and then changed his position in order to have him replace the OG who wasn't a problem while keeping in place the OG who was a problem. Right now, I'm still hoping that we sign a legitimate starting RT and that McRibust gets in shape and wins a starting job at OG. |

Well, Hall's fast...we need a fast FS...Hall has said he would like to move to FS...not to hard to connect the dots. For this year at least, though, I think Hall needs to stay at CB.
Me, too! You and I may be his biggest boosters. I loved the guy coming out of college. I loved the guy coming out, and had huge hopes for him. And it's not just the fans; Bruce Allen said Thomas would have started last year. |

He would be a very small anchor (too small as a center) on the line that is being built. He knew Shanny's offense from his days in Denver. he played the year Shanny was fired, and then he was cut by McDaniel. He is a system guy. |

Yeah we really need one of the young DB's to step up. I don't think Rambo can play. But Thomas might be the physical presence that we've been lacking at safety. My concern w/ Thomas is he's had two major injuries now in 3 years. |

Re: Redskins Free Agents Signings Thread
I wish we would sign Kerry Rhodes. His perceived worth is probably the biggest hindrance to him not signing anywhere, but T.J. Ward signed for about 5 million/year. Surely Rhodes would take less than that. He's a little old at 31, but he can still play FS and centerfield. Talent-wise, he's probably the best FA safety available.

In an ESPN column about Grudens breakfast press conference John Keim listed this as number 6:
6. Gruden has a sense of humor. The topic was Robert Griffin III's running and taking too many hits. Gruden, too, hurt his knee when he played quarterback. It was not from running, however. "I hurt my knee because the right tackle missed a block,"; he said. You know, that may have sounded funnier when he was talking. Now I wonder if he's not still annoyed. Whatever. It was funny at breakfast.
One thing I like about that, all the hand wringing that we have going on about Polombus, my guess is Gruden isn't going to let a RT hurt his qb. |
