If the opening offer is $20M, and you know that McCartney's opening position is going to be $25M per year (which is just slightly higher than the tag), then it's very easy to see them coming together around $23M.

I would want the 49ers 2017 picks #2 ...#34...#66 and two 2018 picks. Re: Kirk Cousins 365 thread
20mm sounds low for an opener but who knows it could 4 years fully garaunteed, or it could be heavily front loaded so this year and next he makes 27 and the final two is much lower that way he gets the big money up front but the average is lower. Who knows the details on such a small amount of information.
This gets done. |

With the cap exploding in recent years these are the numbers it takes. QB is the single highest paid position on every team. When bums like Osweiler get big money it fucks it up for the rest of us. |
Re: Kirk Cousins 365 thread
The guaranteed jack is where it's at anyway, as you are well aware
Absolutely. And that could be something that hangs the whole thing up, who knows. I believe that Cousins likes Gruden and wants to be in DC. That's the whole underpinning of my belief that it all gets done. I think McCartney has done a terrific job of leaking things at just the right time to get the media all spun up, and the internet rumor machine in overdrive, that Cousins wants out. I think it's all BS. I wholeheartedly believe he wants to be here with Jay. And I wholeheartedly believe his wife Julie wants to be here. And I think, behind closed doors, he has told McCartney to get the Skins up as high as you can by any means necessary, and if they get in the ballpark then I'll sign. And you're right, if the 'Skins don't get into the ballpark in terms of fair guaranteed money, then it could all fall apart. But I don't think that will happen, I think they know this negotiation is high stakes and for real now, and they won't screw it up. July 15 is a ways away, and there's no reason for either side to cave yet. I think the combine ends having made some progress, but still a gap. But they get there by July. |
Re: Kirk Cousins 365 thread
I think $20M is right if your intent is to meet in the middle at $22.5 or $23.0.
If I were Schaffer I would have started in the exact same spot. |

I'd like to think they could get a deal done with 5 years, $115M with $48M guaranteed. That would average $23M per year and the guarantee would be 40% of the total contract and twice as much as Kirk is guaranteed on a Franchise Tag deal for 2017. Meanwhile, McDonald's is replacing workers making $9.50 per hour with robots. Think about that for a minute, Kirk! |

Cooley strongly believes that last year the first offer made by the Redskins was so lower than KC expected and KC's first counter offer was so much higher than the Redskins expected there was no negotiation to speak of. Re: Kirk Cousins 365 thread
I think the easy part is getting the yearly base salary down. Probably just figuring out the guaranteed money part of the deal and how to back-load the deal so that the worst part hits in higher cap years.
I also think a deal will get done, unless a trade offer is such that they can't refuse. |
Re: Kirk Cousins 365 thread
As long as both sides are realistic it really ought to be "easy". My concern is whether both sides are.

Re: Kirk Cousins 365 thread
KC probably wants to know if he will have any WRs to throw to. All this stuff about liking the coaches and knowing the system is moot, if there is no one to throw to.

He has at a minimum Reed, Crowder, Davis, likely Doctson, andheck even Ryan Grant, then you add Chris Thompson in. I don't think targets are an issue in his mind, especially if he believes it is his ability that has lifted the receiving corps. |

Grant is worthless, and you forgot Maurice Harris in there. He probably will make the team before Grant. Also, don't be too surprised if we draft a WR, so Kirk might have a shiny new addition to the fold. |

That is what I am thinking. $25 million would be my ceiling. I think he will improve over last season, but he really has to rise to the occasion when he gets some real heat to make $25+. I love the guy, but he needs to hang in there when things get a bit rough. |

If we let DJ go, I'd like to make a run at Kenny stills, he's got big time speed as well but is more rounded than Desean.

Davis is a free agent, Doctson is big question mark, Crowder is very good, but he is not PG or DJ. I would sign Brandon Marshall (2015 stats 100+ receptions and 1,500. yds) obviously QB problems in 2016... the Jets did not want to spend close to $10 million... the Redskins should |

In all honesty though, who is as good as DeSean Jackson? I mean, in terms of speed and deep threat ability? I've seen a lot of good receivers drop bombs that were right in the bread basket. I've seen D-Jax make awkward adjustments - just like a good center fielder has to do - and still make the catch. The Redskins are a better team with Jackson on the field, but they can survive without him. I'm eager to see what Doctson will be able to do. |

Re: Kirk Cousins 365 thread
At this point if you're KC why would you sign a long term deal? He can play this season out and get his 24 million. I'd wait and see what happens to Gruden and see if I'd want to stay. If Gruden's blown out of here then I wouldn't stay here. He can go be a FA and most likely play for Kyle or maybe even McVay.

Because he could be injured next year or have a down year. Sure he could play for Kyle or McVay but they at this point have awful weapons to surround him with. To me Cousins is a competitive guy, he best chance to compete is here. |

Absolutely! Not only that, look at the quality of the offense in Washington as opposed to San Fran right now. Better offensive line with the Redskins and more weapons to throw to. I think Cousins is smart enough to know it's not all about money, he wants to be successful. Not saying he wouldn't eventually be successful in San Fran, but I still think the Redskins are on the cusp of breaking out and being a consistent playoff team - San Fran is a long ways from being such a team right now. |

Re: Kirk Cousins 365 thread
Romo has played 5 games in the last two seasons and I think he's had the same collar bone broken twice and a compression fracture of a vertebrae.
The idiots will probably trade for a broken down Romo and then draft a lousy QB prospect at #17. What did we fans ever do to deserve this kind of Keystone Kops team management? Hell, they probably didn't send Scot home - he left on his own volition and they can't get him to come back to work! |
