Yeah that is how many are assessing it. Depends on the effects of this decision - a few are saying the rejection is a show stopper and while others are saying it's macht nichts.

Nah, he did it for the same reasons everybody else does everything: money. Not sure of the specifics but if he's a "notorious trademark squatter" he must be making good money from repeatedly doing it.

I don't really get how it's possible. Isn't there/shouldn't there be some sort of law or regulation stipulating a trademark has to be done in good faith/in fairness ? Could easily be bypassed, but those obviously unfair trademarks could be avoided IMO.

If memory serves courts have said that a cyber squatter cant just have a domain name and do nothing with it. From what the guy who holds this domain said on the Sports Junkies (a DC area sports talk show) he sells t-shirts using the domain and therefore is technically doing something with it so he doesn't have to forfeit it for lack of use.

The thing that's more puzzling is that the decision also said the Washington Football Team is too generic to be trademarked. So apparently one cant trademark something like "yellow lemon" because it's too generic.

What all this tells me is that Washington is going to move away from a generic name like WFT and actively pursue a traditional nickname like Redwolves or Monuments.

Warriors is a pretty generic term. Get rid of the Indian logo and Warriors can mean a bunch of things. I doubt that's why they suddenly dropped the TM after having it for many years.

Again, they talked again and again about the long renaming process etc... they're just protecting their options IMO.

Well that is the point if they had filed for other names it would have leaked since as noted it would be in the public domain. Given they apparently haven't tried to patent another name it appears (to me at least) that WFT is the choice.

They are using and marketing WFT this year, so they would be dumb not to try to trademark it, not to mention that they were Division Champs last year so getting WFT trademarks are already a bit behind the curve.

Pretty much in line with the process and calendar they announced times and times again. Sorry but people thinking WFT has a legit chance at sticking around haven't been paying attention.

Can you imagine for one sec how pathetic and unprofessional they would look if it took them 2 years and trillions of fans (+almuni, sponsors etc...) input, to say, "hey you know what ? We didn't need all that amazing, thorough and absolutely indispensable process we talked about so much, the temporary name we had found in 2 weeks works just fine" ?

(If you like WFT, that's fine, it's a subjective thing, just saying from a process and coherence standpoint it doesn't stand a chance).

When corporate branding, marketers attempt to find names/design/fonts that evoke emotion to transmit their company image

Ex: Playful, Competitive, Professional, Serious

I think #WashingtonFootball is aiming for "forward thinking" and "inclusive" as themes moving forward
