If we had a first or even an additional 2nd or 3rd I wouldn't mind either but with only one 2nd I kind of mind. |
Re: Official Redskins Free Agency Thread 2013
This Talib talk is smoke imo. He's gonna demand alot.

Eh, I feel like the Skins could sign a free agent like Toler and get near the same value and still keep their second. Maybe if the Skins had a first round pick but obviously they do not. |
Re: Official Redskins Free Agency Thread 2013
we have BIG issues,no cap space for a starting cornerback ,and we are in desparate need of a right tackle (should just sign polumbus at this point)and not to mention fred davis ,we are screwed big time with this cap hit, could take a step back this yr.,... its sucks
I wouldn't.
I'd rather cut Moss and do a few more restructures.
I assumed that Moss would need to be cut to acquire Talib and Harris. But I also assumed that more would need to be done beyond that. Thus, the thought of cutting Fletcher, as well. I have great admiration for both Santana Moss and London Fletcher and I don't look forward to seeing them go but everybody is expendable if their loss advances the needs of the team. To me, the Redskins are on the way up but they're not quite where they need to be to contend for the championship in 2013. The Skins may well be a better team in 2013 if they keep Moss and Fletcher but they may also be a better team in 2014 and beyond if they were to cut them now to acquire Talib and Harris, get younger as a team, and avoid becoming cap strapped in the future by restructuring more contracts. If the Skins were to solve the RT and CB problems now, they would have more latitude in the draft to move up and pick an ILB such as Kevin Minter or Alec Ogletree. |

Re: Official Redskins Free Agency Thread 2013
What are people's feelings on the chances of resigning D Hall at a more reasonable price? He said he would restructure so he obviously wants to stay here, and I don't see him commanding interest from a lot of teams.

Re: Official Redskins Free Agency Thread 2013
We have been linked to Talib since he was a Buc. Either he will come to DC or we will help him get a huge contract elsewhere.

Re: Official Redskins Free Agency Thread 2013
As free agency starts, I think we land a moderate priced CB, a couple cheap Safeties (free and strong), and cheap 3rd Down RB...hopefully Justin Forsett.
Im most interested in what we do with Fred Davis. Its been quiet on his front. I think we go with a 2 year deal and bring him back. |

I'd be all for it if we can't land Toler or Cason with a lower pricetag. I think Hall's play down the stretch and Pro Bowls on his resume will get him a better payday somewhere else though. The Pro Bowl is a pointless joke, but when it's on your resume, it gives you some ground to demand more money. Do you think we'd be having trouble re-signing Lorenzo Alexander without his Pro Bowl nod? I think it does have an impact on negotiations, at least from the player/agent side of the dealings. |
Re: Official Redskins Free Agency Thread 2013
Just wanted to add a couple thoughts about this teams chances of success this year, even with our ability to do much of anything in free agency being limited.
We've essentially resigned the entire offense from 2012. Last year, our offense was literally unstoppable. Defenses simply could not stop our offense from scoring touchdowns. The only thing that stopped our offense were mistakes. Penalties, dropped passes, and errant throws. Thats what stopped drives and forced field goals and punts. Consider that this will be the 2nd year of the team running the RG3 version of this offense. Every key contributor on offense is either in their prime, or years away from entering their prime - and they were still as good as they were last year. I see no reason to think our offense will take a step back in 2013. They should be even better. Last year we were 4th in the league averaging 27 points per game. The Pats lead the league with 35 points per game. Assuming RGIII is healthy, I see no reason why we should not EXPECT our offense to score 35 points per game this year. That's enough to win just about every game, even with a horrible defense. Speaking of our defense, we are all concerned about our secondary. until our late season run, the secondary was beyond awful and ranked 32nd in the league. But heres the thing, when your defense is 32nd in the league, you really cant get any worse. Our front 7 is all coming back, and we'll have a healthy orakpo. We will have a healthy pass rush, which we lacked essentially all of last year. That will cover over some of our secondary issues. But our secondary is bound to improve. They tightened up in the later part of last year. This is a very deep FA and draft for secondary players. Our 2nd round pick is almost certainly going to net us a safety or corner that can start at some point this season. For those reasons, i dont necessarily beleive we'll take a step back in 2013. In fact, i think we'll take steps forward. Its the NFL, so anything can happen, but i dont see how we wont be able to match or improve on our 10-6 record from last year. We just won't be able to improve as much - or as fast - as we would have without the cap penalty. But we will improve. |
Re: Official Redskins Free Agency Thread 2013
toler cox or smith are more likely than talib i'd think. I wouldn't be too mad over signing harris either (at which point polumbus probably has to find another home).
then sign davis, find some DBs in the draft and call it a day. there's just not very much money. we still might have to let moss go (or at least restructure). to even make that happen. |
Re: Official Redskins Free Agency Thread 2013
BHA makes some excellent points. Only thing I'd add, as a devil's advocate sort of thing, is that historically, the NFL has been good at "figuring out" offenses when given time, especially "gimmick" offenses. Fortunately, I think the Pistol formation is so multi-dimensional, especially with the players we have that run it, that it will be MUCH more difficult to figure out than the... Wildcat, for instance. I wouldn't even call the Pistol a gimmick offense. But the point is that even if all the players stay the same, and they learn the playbook even better, there's still a chance that some cunning DC's around the league could use gametape from last year to stop - well, slow down - the offense.

Sorry, are you getting married to him or something? He's an average corner, sucks was to strong. |
Re: Official Redskins Free Agency Thread 2013
When it comes down to improving our secondary this year, still better options in the draft than free agency. Even if we dont splash, there is still hope of finding 2 starters in the secondary through our draft this year. Folks thats without a 1st round pick.
