Re: Skins vs Texans Gameday Thread
I didn't have a problem with the plan. We all knew quick passes were going to be called early and often, and that's what the Texans were willing to give all day. I think Gruden would have liked to take more shots, on the first sack Griffin was clearly looking down field. There was simply too much pressure to dial up more long developing plays. To me it just came down to those two turnovers. That's 2 potential TDs left on the field. The entire landscape of the game would have changed if we even just came away with 10 points.
There were also instances where he either ran into the pressure for no reason (one time it took us out of FG range) or failed to actually step up into the pocket to avoid the pressure. Hopefully he can start correcting this. |

Griffin has zero confidence right now. I believe SS said it but Grif needs a cupcake game that gets his mojo back. Sadly Sunday's game probably knocked his fragile confidence wall down even more. |

Sadly Sunday's game probably knocked his fragile confidence wall down even more.
I'm not sure if he's lacking confidence, or the coaches don't have confidence in him. Did we give up multiple high draft picks to watch Griffin throw hitches and screens all day? Yeah the coverage was soft but so what? They have to open up the offense with more medium rage stuff. Get RG3 on the run a little more, do something. That was crap yesterday. |

Yup. Cannot blame the right side for everything he did wrong. I have not seen any film on the websites that some of you guys watch 22? Or whatever it is. Id be willing to bet he missed more than one throw down field when he had the time to make it. All these things scare me. I mean I understand having your confidence shaken because of the injury, and not wanting to get hit again, but not stepping up - running into pressure- missing reads - not sure That has a whole lot to do with confidence. |
Re: Skins vs Texans Gameday Thread
I thought we wanted him to become a pocket passer? Now it's why isn't he running?

This is the part of Griffin's play yesterday that irked me the most. I think it might have something to do with him not trusting the interior blocking. Can't fault him for that, but at least give them a shot instead of backpedaling and taking a sack for a huge loss. But Joe Flacco took a sack yesterday that put the Ravens out of FG range, so we need to remember it's not just our guy that makes frustrating mistakes. By the way, Clowney will be out for 4-6 weeks. Let's hope the news on Cofield and Reed is better. |
I thought we wanted him to become a pocket passer? Now it's why isn't he running?
Personally I want him to THINK when he is in the moment. If a hole opens up and nobody is open than run. I do not want to see him run the read option 15 times a game, but that doesnt mean he cant run. |
Re: Skins vs Texans Gameday Thread
I think the biggest issue with RGIII is that he just didn't have adequate pass protection. He's trying to hang in there and stay in the pocket. But come on, Polumbus against Watts? That's a huge mismatch! Watts was unbelievable yesterday! It was like watching a video game!
If the 'skins had not turned the ball over when they did - especially deep in the redzone, we're probably talking about a good, tough victory. The running attack is outstanding. The passing attack will be better if the pass protection ever improves! Bacarri Rambo needs to add a little jelly with that toast! Outside of him, the defense actually played pretty well I felt. We all know Foster is going to get his yards, but he didn't kill the 'skins. It continues to blow my mind how rare special teams miscues seem to be the norm for this team. A blocked XP and a blocked punt returned for a TD all in the same game? *sigh* I keep telling myself to be patient, but man, it's tough! |

Who has time to think when Polumbus is blocking JJ Watts? |
Re: Skins vs Texans Gameday Thread
I don't recall him giving up any clear running opportunities, maybe we're looking a little too far into this right now?

Listen there were several plays yesterday that JJ Watts would have foiled for any qb in history. Nobody is denying that. BUT - when you have a choice to make between stepping up through the pocket that is collapsing and collapsing with it - you have to step up. When you have a choice to do ANYTHING besides back pedal out of fg range and take a sack you do anything. A great starting qb thinks quickly - and makes the rite decision. JJ Watt or JJ Walker - it shouldnt matter - you CANNOT hold onto the ball for 5-6 seconds when Watt is on the other side. |

But that's what makes him what he is. He needs to have 4-5 carries a game where he breaks the back of the defense. There was none of that yesterday. I don't want 2012, but not having him run at all is stupid. |

Is there any word about the progress of Moses and Long? Do the coaches still consider Chester and Polumbus to be better options?

Rookies against Watt would have been insane. I think the coaches like them both... for next year. |

Barring injury I'd doubt it. Backups just don't get the reps the starters do during the season to push someone out of a job. |

my uneducated gut instinct is that RG3 is always used to scrambling on a busted play and likes to scramble to the outside where there is more open field, their field is vision is open and they can quickly judge if they can turn the corner or not and they can use the sideline for protection. i dont think it is natural for a speedy scrambler to step into the mouth of danger/bodies vs getting outside it. you use speed on the edges. rg3 is speed. he isnt big ben. he isnt comfortable stepping into and trusting a pocket. .... yet. |
Re: Skins vs Texans Gameday Thread
RGIII is a half-beat slow. He's also in a new offense. With time and the experience of some success, he should make up that half-beat. If he does, he will start really lighting it up.

per bleacher report: Jordan Reed mild hamstring strain. Cofield high ankle sprain.

The offense is coming together. I feel encouraged. RG3 played better than most QBs did Sunday. Gruden is building, no gimmics. I like it. We were 3 and 13 last year.

Played better based on what? He did run a reverse at an odd time, but I agree with what you are saying sort of about the direction of the offense. Now we just need better RT, C, and RG. We also need Griff to improve big time. We are a year away. If we dont address the o-line big time next year or Long and Moses dont show me something by than I will not tune in to watch dinking and dunking next year. |

Idk, usually coaches want players to practice so the plays become second nature. If you're taking the time to think while the play is happening, by the time you decide it's already too late. It's the same thing with any other position, if you are thinking instead of naturally reacting you've probably already missed your window. |

You might head out of the huddle with a plan in mind, but after the ball is snapped a QB goes through his reads, maybe decides to scramble, maybe decides to throw it away. This is all i mean. In that few seconds, he has to think fast. Edit : THOROUGHLY and fast |

Holding on to the football for too long was Griffin's lone flaw in the game.....he completed 29/37 passes.....and he didn't toss a pick but had notouchdowns either.....he has to learn how to handle the blitz better..... |

That is the funny part, because his rookie season he was best in the NFL at it. Teams were afraid to blitz him because they knew he would shred it, how he went from that to what I am seeing now is mind boggling. |
