That's the thing, Bruce Allen is a total dumb ass stupid fool when it comes to working trades. His history proves that. If someone offers you have 1st you have to take it. Period.
In my opinion, Allen would be stupid if he did what you suggested and took the Patriots 1st rounder (likely to be pick 29-32) when he still had time to see if he can get a better offer. Allen's done a lot of dumb stuff during his tenure here, but the he is handling this is situation perfectly to maximize our leverage.
There's only a small handful of teams that are going to want TW in the first place. Holding out for more compensation or waiting for an injury to occur to me isn't the way to go. Most of the good teams or contending teams will either go w/ their backup ( see Eagles) or wait until next year and get someone in the draft who's young and on a rookie deal.
While, I think only a handful of teams would give up a 1st for Trent, I'd imagine half the league would be interested in Trent. He really is one of the best LTs in the league and its one of the most important positions in football. The price will only go UP if one of those teams has a good start to the season and loses a starting tackle. And its almost certain that one of them will. It happens every year. The longer we wait, the more money Trent loses and more likely he starts changing his tune about holding out.

I understand that we all want this situation to be over with, but this situation is not as urgent as people are wanting to make it out to be. Unless someone makes the team an incredible offer,

The Patriots 1st is basically a 2nd rounder considering it will be 30-32. Sorry but Trent is worth more and the Skins are right in holding out for more.

And yeah, F Florio. Dude has always been a pencil neck d-bag.

It's the other way around, if the Texans want a stud LT they should be calling the Skins.

Re: Trent Williams holding out for new deal

I agree with Matty.

BTW, I wouldn't cave for just a 1st rounder for TW from the Patriots. That has proved to be the 32nd pick in many a recent draft, and I wouldn't swap TW for any of these pick 32 guys:

2019: K'Neal Harry
2018: Lamar Jackson
2017: Ryan Ramczyk
2016: Emmanuel Ogbah
2015: Malcom Brown
2014: Teddy Bridgewater
2013: Matt Elam
2012: David Wilson
2011: Derrick Sherrod
2010: Patrick Robinson

I realize that the Patriots may well not be at 32, but the end of the 1st round hasn't proved to be all that great.

I say trade him to the Texans forTytus Howard 23rd overall 1st round pick LT plus a draft pick, Redskins throw in Williams and Doctson.

Doctson? Seriously? What trade value does Doctson have on a team that already has Hopkins and Fuller? Don't make H-town a dumping ground just because Doctson is a bust.

The Redskins should counter with a request for a first and 3rd.(NE's pick).NE has 4 third-round picks. Deal done.

Makes sense, they offered a 1st, the Skins said it's not enough, the Pats moved on.

But now a late 1st rounder is the floor in any ongoing negotiation IMO.

I don't know that we get a projected high 1st. But maybe a late 1st+, or several 2nd/3rdish picks.

We will wind up without Trent, and without a first round pick period. We are the Redskins! (Said in a spartan voice).

This is a game of high stakes poker. I suck at poker, so I'm gonna hold off on making making any rash comments until this is resolved. Just sucks that this stems from something outside of actually playing football.

I figured as much, no way would the Pats give a #1 for TW. The Pats are bargain hunters when it comes to trade partners. Only the Redskins would leak something that was obvious BS.

Of course the Patriots are going to deny it. I believe Finlay and Sheehan.

It's time to shit or get off the toilet for Trent, he needs to understand that the skins hold the cards. Come back or lose $ up to him

A lot of great players are drafted at the end of the 1st round. A lot of them. You can draft Trent's replacement at the end of the 1st round next year.

Reports for months have been that he does understand and is willing to lose the money.

That said, I think if we don't trade him, eventually he will show up.

The reports are originating with Trent and his camp, and of course he's going to indicate he's serious about sitting. But is he actually serious about losing $11M this year?

I don't believe so. I won't believe it till I see it.

Yeah easy to say now that he's willing to give up the $$, let's see what happens when the checks actually stop coming.

Exactly, saying this is your final offer or walking away is part of the strategy. If the Redskins have said no to offers it might get them a better offer. I assume there are several teams interested in Trent.

In this CBA they could actually fine him now for the full game check for preseason games he has missed. I think that is what the Skins threatened when they said they would fine him. I also think that TW may already count 4 checks lost based on that, but I can't see him sitting out a whole season if the team said that he would not be fined.

ON the other hand he HAS made 51 MILLION dollars, so unless he has done seriously dumb shit with his cash (and many a football players have) I doubt he will roll over solely on the basis of lost money.

There is no reason to rush into a trade. We're probably a LT injury on a contending team away from trading Trent. I'm thinking we could get a Round 1 pick and a good young player from a truly desperate team.

I rather trade him, even if he shows up we win 6 or 7 games. I rather win 3 games have a higher pick in the draft and enjoy the fruits of the trade. By the time this team is worth a hoot again Trent will be old and useless.

Sent from my SM-G950U using Tapatalk
That would be the worst position to trade Trent for, for several reasons:
1 Yes its a weak position but there looks to be several solid guys breaking into the lineup, who loses their spot, assuming Doctson is already gone.

2 Even a receiver like Diggs, who would be the only WR we should consider, what good does it have to have him if the left side cannot give the qb time to throw.

3. Receivers are the worst add in terms of team chemistry, and a star receiver that would be reasonably valued at TWs level is likely going to be a diva to the nth degree.

Trent to New England, new England 1st round pick to Miami, Tunsil and a 4 round pick to Skins.

Re: Trent Williams holding out for new deal

Their Online is bad and he’s probably the best player on their team. He’s young, healthy, and on a good deal. Don’t get me wrong, short of Trent coming back, this would be the best case scenario I can think of. Which makes me very skeptical.
