Re: 2022 Commanders off season thread part 1
You guys are smoking crack. This bargain basement oline will suck but they will cover it up with dump passes to McKissic.
By week 3 you will be questioning why Wentz doesn’t throw deep without realizing all his plays require him to get rid of the ball in under 3 seconds. |
Re: 2022 Commanders off season thread part 1
I think Oline wasn’t much of an issue last year and while Flowers play is replaceable, Schreff on the other hand will be missed. That being said, we aren’t left holding our dicks…We got guys who can step in and give us above avg play. I like that better than an unknown at this point.

Oh it probably is. That said the OL talent has declined since last season so it probably won't be as good. |
Re: 2022 Commanders off season thread part 1
Feels like people fret about the OL every offseason and they manage to always be much better than expected

Oline is fine and now better with more depth. Most teams do not go crazy with lineman because the avg guys are all solid starters, not many Trent WIlliams running around |

Last year we were rolling with 3rd stringers and there were fine. I think having a better QB should help. |

But I don't think he was at his best the past 2 years, and Schweitzer has been a nice enough surprise that I'm not too worried about losing Brandon (not saying they are on the same level).
Oh yeah, this is a nice move.
Basically Turner, Schweitzer and Norwell cap hits are almost the equivalent of one Flowers (9.8 mill) cap hit if he woulda stayed. No brainer
turner most likely a starter very solid above average player for awhile now |
Re: 2022 Commanders off season thread part 1
Disagree. I think they did a solid job, letting Flowers go was a risky move but they then signed Norwell and Turner for cheaper than his contract.
Leni - Norwell - Roullier - Schweitzer - Cosmi + Turner, Lucas and Charles (who isn't starter caliber but showed some signs of improvement) as quality back ups What don't you like in this line up ? Envoyé de mon SHV48 en utilisant Tapatalk
I think they're weaker at guard and the center is coming off a bad injury. Cosmi was just ok. Leno was a great pickup. |

Hurts had 4000 yards passing last year, or is that cumulative over his career?

The thing is I don't think the drop in play (not talent, play) between a banged up Scherff and a healthy Schweitzer isn't that big. I was high on Flowers and I don't know Norwell, but it seems like he's a solid pick up, we'll see. Roullier coming off an injury is worrying to some extent, but, as someone here reminded me, Larsen filled in surprisingly well last year. And while it does take time to heal, I don't think a broken leg is the kind of injury that lingers (I know Alex Smith begs to disagree, but that was a freakish run of bad luck). And I'd say Cosmi in his second year should provide solid play. I don't really see the big drop in play from last year. One could even say we improved our depth. |
Re: 2022 Commanders off season thread part 1
Wentz at times has played as good as anyone .. and at times bad , but look at RGiii Rookie of year to injured to gone .
It’s not like the team has not tried to lure a Top QB .. Stafford,Wilson both were courted.. Fitz,Taylor,Allen last year Wentz,Taylor,Howell this year .. who knows but on paper I like this years group ! |

"PFF ranked the Colts offensive line 30th in pass-blocking efficiency last season, while the Commanders were ranked 6th Carson Wentz still completed 62.4% of passes and threw for 27 TDs" I also feel like he's gonna have a way better receiving corps than what he had in Indy. On paper Doyle, Hilton and Pittman isn't that bad, but looking at games, maybe it's scheme, but he wasn't getting a lot of separation. |

On paper Doyle, Hilton and Pittman isn't that bad, but looking at games, maybe it's scheme, but he wasn't getting a lot of separation.
Pittman was awesome last season. As for Wentz, he constantly threw into double and triple coverage. Late in the season he just freaked out completely and made some of the worst plays I've ever witnessed, to the point where I feel that it could be fairly said that he caused his team to lose crucial games. That and the fact that it was reported that Wentz had the same type of problems in Indy that he had in Phiily causes me to doubt that he can lead the Commanders. If Frank Reich couldn't fix him, how has he changed to give us hope that our staff can? |
Re: 2022 Commanders off season thread part 1
I don't buy into the idea that Reich thought Wentz needed to be fixed. He brought him in because he thought he would help that team win in a system Wentz was familiar with.
Wentz didn't cause his team to lose crucial games. He's the QB so yeah, he gets the blame...that's been the case for as long as the QB position has been held to a higher standard and determined to be 'the most important position in football'. The losing was a collective effort, and I think Reich would have been more than fine running it back with Wentz, but he doesn't make the decisions in Indy. |
Re: 2022 Commanders off season thread part 1
Chase Young and Carson Wentz need to have good seasons for this team to be successful. If they do, I think we're a definite playoff contender and can win 9 or possibly 10 games.

It just doesn't happen. If Howell can pick up the NFL game quickly he will be nipping at Wentz for the job. He very well could be the starter here in 2023. I don't think Wentz gets extended beyond this year. |
Re: 2022 Commanders off season thread part 1
I'm with you 69, too many red flags to just be dazzled by his arm.
QB is the single most important position in all of sports and his last two teams thought they could do better. With that said, hopefully he realizes that if he continues to make bonehead decisions he will probably lose his job for good. |
Re: 2022 Commanders off season thread part 1
Philly - new head coach, new direction. Happens all the time. Wentz was the odd man out.
Indy - Reich wanted Wentz, the team folded like a lounge chair down the stretch, and the owner used the QB as a scapegoat. Both the Eagles and Colts had suspect offensive lines...for the Eagles that surely factored in when deciding between Wentz and Hurts - with Hurts' mobility. Wentz has a chance to be much better here, with arguably a much better O-line than he has had in years. Howell may be the real deal, and if he eventually gives this team the best chance to win that would be great. I'm not married to Wentz, but I am also able to understand that he can be a really good QB - and is a serious upgrade over what we had here last year. |
Re: 2022 Commanders off season thread part 1
Now that the draft is over, we are going to have like 5 months to analyze the shit out of Wentz.
I'm gonna give him the benefit of the doubt for the 1st half of this season. I think our offense has the players to be pretty damn good if we can perform just pretty good. Its too hard to be negative during the offseason, because just about every year the actual season goes to shit. That's just too much negativity on the soul. |

Eagles thought they were better off with Hurt at QB. Hurt sucks when he isn't killing us! This is a big red flag. |

I celebrated last night with fam…shrimp, chicken and carne asada fajitas, chimichanga, guac, rice and refried beans. Man, nothing cleans me out like refried beans the next day. I’ve probably taking 3 A+ shits today. Feeling great. I wouldn't oppose to that idea, although it probably would mean St. Juste will not get to play much which could stunt his growth. But then Rivera needs to win this year so this is likely the least of his concerns. |

Like every other fan, you expect him to win key games and to make plays in crunch time. In simple terms, you expect him to lead his team and to win. So do I. I don't question Wentz's talent. He is very talented. I also couldn't care less if he throws for 7,000 yards and 40 TDs with the Commanders if he falls apart in the stretch and causes his team to miss the playoffs. Once again, he must win and to do that he must lead by example and make the key plays when needed. It goes with the territory. My problem with him is he has not only failed to live up to expectations with his last two teams but he has been shown to the door by both of them. That's why I don't trust him to be the answer to our QB problem. We'll see what happens. |
