Washington Commanders player suspended through 2023 season for betting on NFL games , I think they are 4 Lions players also.

Sources: NFL suspended 5 players, including #Lions WR Jameson Williams, for violations of NFL gambling policy. #Lions’ CJ Moore & Quintez Cephus, plus #Commanders' Shaka Toney, are suspended indefinitely (at least 1 year). Williams & DET’s Stanley Berryhill are suspended 6 games.

So does this make Edge Rusher a higher priority in the draft?

Toney is the last guy on the depth chart for pass rushers so it won't alter our draft plans. Heck, I would even bet that the team could find an undrafted rookie to replace Toney easily.

For special teams they will need to replace him as he was in on the majority of ST snaps, but he barely played on defense.

I think edge rusher is a higher priority than most people are thinking though. Maybe not the number one priority, but you could argue that it's top five.

Agreed, especially on the special teams part. But i think they know that either Sweat or Young will have to go or the d-line will be way to expensive. I think they will use a 3rd or 4th on an Edge rusher.

Keim just shared one interesting nugget in his podcast, the team is expecting Chris Paul or Saahdiq Charles to compete for guard spot and it seems like the team doesn't expect Norwell to start. This is a good news. It will be interesting to see how we shuffle the Oline if we draft a tackle in early rounds.

Charles and Norvell need to be replaced.

I think Paul has a good chance to at least be G number 3 (next man up).

Agreed. I think the current set up is: Leno/rookie - Paul/? - Roullier - Cosmi - Wylie.

Re: Commanders 2023 Off-Season Thread

I still think that if we draft a tackle high he goes to RT or LG for a season or two until Leno leaves or is cut. If he goes to RT then Wylie will shift back to his better position at RG and Cosmi to LG. Add a young centre behind Gates in rnd 3 or 4 and we are set. Cutting Norwell, Roullier and Cornelius Lucas saves $16m on the cap.
Agreed. I think the current set up is: Leno/rookie - Paul/? - Roullier - Cosmi - Wylie.
Or if they draft Darnell Wright or another T in the 1st:

Leno (I imagine he starts here 1 more year)/Wylie/Roullier or Gates/Cosmi/1st Round Tackle.

Depending on how the draft falls, I wouldn't be surprised if we drafted a C to back-up Gates and released Roullier. Use that money to sign some post-draft casualties from other teams for other positions of need.

You know the story seems highly unlikely but if you had to choose one NFL franchise that would seek the services of a 33 year old QB that hasn't played in over 4 years which franchise would it be? I imagine the Commanders would be up there

A few things on this:

1. This was reported a while ago by Keim, I don't know why this is coming out as something new. Go listen to Keim's latest podcast and he talks about how he has reported this a few times in the past and he's surprise everyone thinks this is new.

2. Was it stupid for them to reach to Luck? Yes. Keep in mind this was last year, when Snyder was still involved in QB stuff.

3. Irsay is a moron and will soon take the mantle of worst owner when Snyder leaves.

Heard it speculated that the recent settlement of the Eagles / Cardinals tampering over Gannon led to draft pick compensation to the Eagles, which is why teams are more keen to push the matter if they can get draft capital in compensation. Wouldn't think it would amount to much for a retired player, it is not as if it unsettles their current roster.

Re: Commanders 2023 Off-Season Thread

Reports: Commanders asked all 32 teams for their quarterbacks, including Patrick Mahomes
Back in 2020, the Kansas City Chiefs realized how important it was to give Patrick Mahomes a long-term deal. That's why the AFC West team offered him a 10-year, $450 million contract to secure an elite quarterback for a decade.

https://www.msn.com/en-us/sports/nfl/nfl-report-commanders-desperately-asked-the-chiefs-if-patrick-mahomes-was-available/ar-AA1aSdPJ?ocid=entnewsntp&cvid=192cd11ea08b4b20adb3ef44afea3503&ei=28

For the rest of the league, getting a player like Mahomes is key to succeed. Unfortunately, it is not so easy to find someone like him, so the Commanders decided to stop the search and go straight forward for the Chiefs quarterback.

According to John Keim, ESPN's Commanders reporter, Washington asked the entire league if their quarterbacks were available for a trade, including the Chiefs and Patrick Mahomes.

The Washington Commanders have been searching desperately for a franchise quarterback recently. They have explored all options, including calling Andrew Luck, who retired in 2019, to ask him to return and play for them.

Interesting order, I assume it's wishful thinking rather than belief.

I'd be interested in Mooby's order as I seem to remember him putting Hurts 2nd at about this time last year and getting slated for it.

Personally I'd have to put Howell last and keep my fingers crossed that I'm hopelessly wrong.

I'm flattered that you would remember that lol, even I don't remember what rankings I had them in.

New rankings for 2023:

1. Hurts
2. Dak
3. Jones
4. Howell

Every year presents a new opportunity though, nowhere for Howell to go but up. Hopefully he solves this qb debate until our new owner refuses to pay him and he goes to the Vikings to replace Kirk lol.

Hard to argue with that order although it wouldn't surprise me if both Hurts and Jones took a step backwards from last years performances.

Don't know what to think about Prescott, sometimes he looks unstoppable but other times he looks like garbage.

Hopefully our new DBs will tip the numbers in Howells favour, both Jones and Prescott will give bunches of INTs given half a chance, they just haven't against us. Honestly one the real goals I have for next season is to stop this riduculous win steak Jones has been on against us

Agreed. Some players can play at an elite level for a year but then they fall off. It's hard to do it sustainably when the league has time to prepare. That's what truly separates the greats. Also agree on Dak, his stats look great on paper but obviously no matter how good he looks in the regular season he/they fall apart in crunch time.

Agreed, though a step up from the whole D would aid that.

More pressure on QB = more potential turnovers (fumbles and INTs)
Improved run D = more passing. leading to more INT opportunities
DB's with better INT capability = taking more INTs that already occur AND creating more opportunities

If we can do all of the above, which we really haven't in a while (and SH can avoid picks and fumbles), we should win way more turnover battles than before.

Get Forbes out of the slot. Can we just have 1 guy that is really good at his position. Rivera wants the damn longsnapper to have position flexibility.

Put Forbes at the boundary corner and then LEAVE HIM BE.

Nothing wrong with giving him some looks in the slot. If he's shadowing a WR and that WR moves inside, Forbes will have to go too. Of if there's an injury to someone he might have to move.

CB1 is never going to play the slot if there is an injury. Anyone but Forbes should be moved inside if absolutely necessary.

Have we ever shadowed a WR before? Doesn't sound familiar.

I mean, it's just offseason, so it's not a big deal now. But I'd like for him to be planted on the outside.

Ron Rivera be like...but can you farm???
