Betts is a good #2 RB, and filled in nicely when Portis went down, but keep in mind there was not a lot of teams knocking on his door to steal him away from the Skins when his contract came up. He wanted to test the open market and got no phone calls. My only concern is we have 3 RB's all around the same age and when one decides its time to hang up the cleats I'm betting the other two will be thinking the same thing only cause of age. The team needs to start looking for a Replacement for Portis who can be developed/groomed until Portis is ready to say goodbye. Someone young and talented like a Mason. I'm in no way saying he's ready to take over for Portis right now. but I'm sure he would do just as well a job as Betts did.
Nobody wanted Betts or Cartwright, so yeah... I like Rock but he's a special teamer, not a running back.. Betts is a number 3 on a stacked team at best.. he's a number 2 for what we have available but that's about it

Maybe if he gets the ball more that will change but yeah
I don't think that you really want to put Collins in at number 1 at all unless you're going into playoff chances and Campbell gets hurt. While he hasn't had his body worn down from being a backup for so long, I think that at this point you're looking to see what your younger guys can bring to the table.. whether they can lead a team, whether to use them as trade bait, or whether to cut them.
When Collins ran his 40 yard dash at the start of camp, they timed him with an hourglass. :)
I would love to see either Dorsey or Aldridge make this team. We need a little speed scat back/ return guy to change the pace sometimes. I do like Mason but dont see a roster spot for him unless Betts or Rock gets injured. If some other player(s) show they can perform well on ST, Rock may be on the way out.
Whoever the Skins keep, I hope they use him. I'd love to see them employ a 3 back system similar to the Ravens and Giants, especially if one of the backs is a change of pace speedster that can take it the distance.

Here's a highlight clip on Aldridge for anyone interested: [ame=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SOkLuTtckKs]YouTube - Anthony "Quick Six" Alridge[/ame]

Does he have a problem holding onto the ball?

Anyone know how Dorsey is doing on teams? He was the CFL special teams player of the year and he has some nifty kick returns on youtube. Is he being given a shot to compete as a kick-off/punt returner?

I'm kind of worried that we still have the same questions/doubts at WR and OL as we have for awhile now; we have more potential at WR maybe, but who knows..

Ok, so I didn't go to the Fan Appreciation day, but I was wondering how did Aldrige do, all of our rookies not named Orakpo, and Hackett do?

Crazy rumor over at ES that KBarnes (rookie) hyperextended his knee and will not play in the Ravens preseason game. Again rumor mill unless someone has more info.

Betts is a # 3 at best on a stacked team? Was the '06 team stacked?

I am going to bow out of this conversation. I deal in reality.

As long as it isn't popped, I am ok with any rumor.

In '06 I think it was more of the fact that the offensive line was on fire. If you plug any decent back in there they would do the same. This was a year where the o-line deserved a lot of credit. Betts needs to learn how to be s hort yardage back. He is horrible around the goal line and Portis is far better at beast'n his way in the end zone.. Betts..NOT

Re: Training Camp Updates:

that being said. we probably keep betts because of familiarity. but he is on the decline. I think we keep him but Rock is the odd man out..Dorsey, Mason or Aldridge will take his spot. But I heard Aldridge has fumblitis. Not good.

They've basically stated Rock is the return man so I don't know.

I don't exactly know what happened, but I did hear that he and Bridges are unlikely to play mainly as precautionary measures after relatively minor injuries this past weekend.

Re: Training Camp Updates:

A little update on Alridge and Dorsey:

Running backs Anthony Alridge and Dominique Dorsey are competing to make the Redskins' season-opening 53-man roster as special teams players, but coaches also are interested in having a change-of-pace speed back to complement top back Clinton Portis and Ladell Betts. Alridge and Dorsey have home-run potential, coaches said, but in order for either to earn a roster spot, he must hold on to the ball, and Alridge and Dorsey have had problems in that area during camp.

Alridge, who did not practice Sunday and was in the trainers' room receiving treatment for a sprained toe, has been particularly careless, fumbling several times during an afternoon practice last week. He also fumbled in Saturday's intrasquad scrimmage, which disappointed Zorn.
