Re: Official Redskins Free Agency Thread 2013
BHA makes some excellent points. Only thing I'd add, as a devil's advocate sort of thing, is that historically, the NFL has been good at "figuring out" offenses when given time, especially "gimmick" offenses. Fortunately, I think the Pistol formation is so multi-dimensional, especially with the players we have that run it, that it will be MUCH more difficult to figure out than the... Wildcat, for instance. I wouldn't even call the Pistol a gimmick offense. But the point is that even if all the players stay the same, and they learn the playbook even better, there's still a chance that some cunning DC's around the league could use gametape from last year to stop - well, slow down - the offense.
I agree, BHA makes some solid points as do you regarding the NFL defensive coordinators figuring out offenses. What I think makes us a little different is that defenses would figure out how to stop gimmick parts of an offense (i.e. wildcat) but our offense is still the base offense Shanahan ran from the Denver days, only with more downfield passing and adding the read option. Defenses can't stop it because it works against all defensive principles. With an addition at RT and I'm even good with swapping out Moss for someone with similar slot skills but fewer miles and dollars owed.. |

Could be smoke, but apparently Zo has some serious interest from around the league. |

CSN Washington is confirming Moss:

Re: Official Redskins Free Agency Thread 2013
I dont really understand "restructuring" moss. 2013 was the last year of his deal, so i dont see how you can restructure that. You can only EXTEND it with a new contract. I love Moss, but I dont understand why we'd extend a 33 year old receiver when we have good, cheap depth at the position and greater needs at other areas of the team.

Apparently they converted salary to attainable incentives so he can earn all or most of it back fairly easily. No extension. |

And attainable incentives dont count against the cap... nice. I hadnt considered that as a means to fee up space. We should do this with alot more players - but then the league would probably penalize us for violating the spirit of the cap. |

They did the same thing with Carriker too, turned salary to bonuses. |

Well, they don't count THIS year. If attained, they count against next year's cap. It's clear MS/BA don't want to push too much money forward. I think they would rather absorb as much of the hit in today's cap while still having enough to address certain needs (TE, DB & RT). Cross your fingers on our 2nd and 3rd round picks this year - I have a feeling they will be starting sooner rather than later. Watch, they'll take another QB in the 2nd round. lol |
Re: Official Redskins Free Agency Thread 2013
Props to FO for pulling this off, I was really nervous about Moss getting cut but now I'm relieved. Now we have to focus on Lorenzo and Davis.

Re: Official Redskins Free Agency Thread 2013
they basically just moved some money to next year.
