Re: Current 2014 Free Agents
it depends on what they paid him. As Cooley said today you can get a good ILB in the 4 or 5 round
You can't get an ILB in the draft who has played in your system for years. Just who would be playing ILB if we didn't re-sign Riley? Answer: We don't have anyone who isn't barely serviceable or constantly injured. Sure draft an ILB in round 5. I'm all for it. But we also needed to re-sign Riley to anchor that unit. |
Re: Current 2014 Free Agents
Sproles is an absolute must. While I like Helu in that role Sproles is the best in the NFL at what he does. I can't count how many times I've seen him break long runs or take screen passes for 30+ yards or more on critical 3rd downs. He would help RG3 immensely because Sproles is the type of player you must game plan for. With that being said. Secondary and O-line should be the priority.
|
Re: Current 2014 Free Agents
We still need to sign another ILB and draft one. There is no talent there. Riley? Robinson??? we need more there and a couple of those backups need to be special teamers (if we made a trade this year I call for bringing Zo back!)
I can't imagine Riley cost much after seeing what his value was. |

John Keim is reporting that BA said this was wrong, and they have carried over the cap. John Keim @john_keim 17m Got same response as @Russellmania980 from GM Bruce Allen about report that Skins failed to carry over $1.3 mill in cap space: "Wrong." Russell is reporting now that the Skins were actually over the cap by 879k and enter free agency with 19.6 million in cap space. We can still create a lot. Re: Current 2014 Free Agents
Sure...why resign him 5 years ago when we can wait and get him now....older, slower, and as not anywhere near as good. Genius. This would be like a Cleveland type move.
|
Re: Current 2014 Free Agents
Nah i dont want Carlos back.
But regardless of what i want all signs are pointing toward us signing both Mitchell which im very happy about, and Talib who i could be happy about if he stays healthy. If hes healthy hell be a great signing. Hall, Talib, Amerson, Mitchell. 4 ballers right there. Gonna be tough to have depth at lb this year but with kerrakpo were fine. Oline/wrs before linebacker. Now lets make sure griffin produces. Im talking like we signed them already lemme wait n see |
Re: Current 2014 Free Agents
Looks like Talib is closing in on resigning with NE

He would be a lot cheaper than Talib, but he and Hall need great safety play to excel. Right now I still say our current number 1 need is a right tackle that can hold his own! |
Re: Current 2014 Free Agents
Fuck Carlos Rogers. Do not want that douche bag back here.
|
Fuck Carlos Rogers. Do not want that douche bag back here.
I disagree. Carlos left because the Skins acted like "douche bags" towards him. I am not saying he didn't respond in kind, but I believe the FO at the time(VC/DS) screwed up their dealings with him first. In my opinion him coming back would both improve our secondary and hopefully point to our front office not playing petty personality games anymore. |
Re: Current 2014 Free Agents
I got no beef with Rogers. He left 'cause he wanted to get paid like a No.1 corner and, instead, we chose to sign D.Hall to a crippling contract that came back to bite us in the butt through the cap penalties. Sure, he had stone hands but he did cover well. Not sure why all the hate.
If he wants to come back and do so cheap, fine. Not sure how good he is at this point in his career - Is he better than J.Wilson? I mean, if he is looking for a payday and starting job, yeah ... move along. Otherwise, what does it hurt to kick the tires on a starting CB who wants to play for us? |
Re: Current 2014 Free Agents
If Revis is cut, (1) is still he worth the money he would want? (2) does he fit in our defensive scheme? and (3) do we pursue him?
I think he is a man corner which is what Hazlett wants (I think). To me, the question is he going to be worth the 9-12M that I suppose he will be seeking. Is someone out there going to break the bank for him? Just wondering. |
Re: Current 2014 Free Agents
i think he'll be tough to afford, but revis will sign somewhere... just hopefully not Oakland.. where most careers go to die...
|
Re: Current 2014 Free Agents
I'd take Rogers as a nickel CB. I just hope he doesn't leave the hands he found in San Fran there.
I predict at CB we'll go with Munnerlyn if we miss out on Talib. Then, we'll target a high-end safety like Byrd. I think we're pursue Talib first and get either Talib and Mike Mitchell...or if Aqib doesn't come here, we'll go for Munnerlyn or Corey Graham and Byrd or TJ Ward. Definitely need starters at both positions though. WR - Andre Roberts is the first WR on my list now. Get Hawkins too, should come cheap and solve our return issues. |

No Revis. He has a history of not playing up to his abilities and whining.

How is being the best corner in the game for multiple years not playing up to his abilities? |
Re: Current 2014 Free Agents
How is being the best corner in the game for multiple years not playing up to his abilities?
How is quitting on your team, holding out of camp after making it to the AFC Championship and putting your team in a tough spot going into a season where they're trying to make a Super Bowl...then getting a massive contract and threatening to hold out for ANOTHER contract just 2 years later acceptable to you? It would be like having Champ Bailey back but on the wrong end of the player's career....talented but gets tired of being here quickly. He has the talent to be the best, but he doesn't always use it. There's a reason the "best" corner in the game can't stick with a team. The Bucs have a lot of cap space. They can afford to keep him, they simply do not want him on their team any more. I predict he'll end up in Oakland. They have the money to spend and the track record of taking on these players. |
Re: Current 2014 Free Agents
Ravens news:
Arthur Jones expected to sign with Colts...they're having a good offseason so far. Eugene Monroe and Ravens close to an agreement to re-sign him. Skins and Giants are likely spots for Corey Graham. Giants are also checking out Ed Dickson. |

I've been telling Ravens fans it would bite them, just like it did with the Giants. Flacco AND Eli are both making top money simply because they were in the right place at the right time. They're good but not deserving of salaries that the top QBs in the game get. I have not noticed many mentions of CB Vontae Davis. He's expected to re-sign with Indy but there's rumored to be a mystery team pursuing him. Some say it's the Jets but I wonder if we've kicked the tires. |
Re: Current 2014 Free Agents
the lions, bears and ravens all overpaid their QBs, so yeah, i'd say it's hurt them all a bit.

They have the money to spend and the track record of taking on these players.
The Bucs dont want him since he is a man to man corner and they dont play man to man, they are a zone team. Lovie Smith doesnt need a shut down corner for the defense that he runs, he runs a cover 2 most of the time. No reason to pay for Revis when you plan on making him play to his weaknesses and not his strengths (zone instead of man to man). Thats just good business sense on Lovie's part, not anything to do with Revis being terrible. Players can get cut even when producing. The owners are in this to make money, why shouldnt the players be as well. Of course he wanted more money, he was the main reason their defense was a top defense. Why did the Jets make it to the AFC championship game? Primarily because of Revis shutting down the number 1 receiver every game. It certainly wasnt because of Sanchez. When did Revis quit on the Jets? He outplayed everyone else when he was on the field. Revis also didnt hold out after those two years. He said he was thinking about it, but showed up and played under his existing contract. Then tore his ACL early that year. His missed time was due to an injury. He then signed with Tampa with zero guaranteed money. Zero... Saying he would rather earn each years salary instead of having it guaranteed. The NFL doesnt have guaranteed contracts, of course the players want to get paid in their prime. Is that some kind of a surprise to anyone? Loyalty is a two way street. The owners show no loyalty to players, why is it expected back? |

Don't forget Dallas. They literally have no money to spend today, unless they let Ware go somewhere else. Romo is living large though. |

i think romo is better than the other 3 though. he chokes an awful lot, but he's pretty good overall.

Bengals re-signed Brandon Tate, probably so I'm guessing they won't re-sign Hawkins too.
Anthony Collins expected to sign with Tampa Bay if he doesn't stay with Cincy. |

Redskins sign big name free agents, OH MY GOD SNYDER IS OUT OF CONTROL!
Redskin sign role players to modest contracts, OH MY GOD REDSKINS FAIL IN FREE AGENCY! I'm all for not looking at the team with rose colored glasses but my God there has to be some sense of moderation.
i think romo is better than the other 3 though. he chokes an awful lot, but he's pretty good overall.
I never understood the rush to get rid of Romo in Dallas. Redskin fans can certainly vouch for the difficulty in finding stability at the QB position. Never mind finding a QB that qualifies for multiple pro bowls as well as multiple seasons with 30+ TD passes. |

Its just they AREN'T signing those role players to the most defective unit on the squad by far, and some of these young up and comers were available on the cheap it looks like. We all like that Allen is frugal, but has he taken it to the next level? Are we gonna roll out with the same secondary next year? The question mark that is the secondary DOES need to be addressed, and I wish they would. |
