Re: Steelers @ Redskins (Pre season game 2)
Tyler Polumbus is painful to watch play RT. The reason he still has a job, much less a starting one at a key position for a division winning team, is completely beyond me.
I feel we need a lot of help and great play from or RT and secondary to even compete. |
Re: Steelers @ Redskins (Pre season game 2)
I know they're considered completely different positions, but I think Compton looks better as a LT than Polumbus does at RT. Maybe we can move Compton to RT and see how he fares.

Re: Steelers @ Redskins (Pre season game 2)
I think the way our line is built all the players are interchangeable to a certain degree but we will get Rob hurt in a half of football if Polumbus and Co. at RT don't get it together.

Re: Steelers @ Redskins (Pre season game 2)
For people bitching about Polumbus, what are they expecting when he's left alone to block Lamar Woodley? He is what he is...I would fault Kyle for leaving him out there by himself. Pittsburgh is always going to have strong pass rushers on the edge. That's what they're known for. The rookie on the other side looked pretty good too.

Agreed on both points but ffs Polumbus is just terribad. |

They seem pretty set on developing Compton at LT. Can't recall seeing much of Pashos yesterday. Thought he might give Polumbus a bit of a push. The wild card in all of this is Mo Hurt. He's got the versatility and experience to be a valuable back up, but not if he's, well, hurt |

Tyler struggled vs the titans in 1 on 1 pass pro. My confidence in him is slipping but I'm sure with the motion blocks of TE's that Kyle uses we can mask his problems till he can get to average mid season form ( just average talent). |
Re: Steelers @ Redskins (Pre season game 2)
My frustration with TP is he seems to give up on plays too quickly/easily. Last year and still today, when I watch replays he's not maintaining his blocks on running plays and getting to the second level and on pass protection he flat doesn't move part of the time. He's either got extremely limited abilities or is lazy. Given his lack of effort on rush blocking especially I think it looks like laziness.
Super unlike a shanahan lineman tho. Heard mike s talking about shannys demand for excellence among his players. |
Re: Steelers @ Redskins (Pre season game 2)
Did anybody happen to notice the kid Jose Gumbs? He was laying some good hits. Who is he?
It's hard to evaluate your receivers when you have a guy in there that is so limited in what he can run. That's why I can't see White playing with the 1's.
WOW, completely thought you were talking about Grossman all the way up to the last sentence. Limited? How? PW looked like RG3 running the scheme minus Mach 2 speed at running. I saw little difference The types of plays Rg3 ran last year and what PW was running in both games. Grossman on the other hand looked to be running a basic offense, basic drop and throw with a lot less "option". Plus he's as slow as molasses. Funny that we are only talking about the 3rd QB spot and funnier that everyone seems to have forgotten the attrociousness we call Grossman. Personally I'll take anyone over Grossman just to make sure he is not in any form an option if they need QB #3. I'm really shocked and suprised we are having this discussion. I knew there were the few Grossman lovers but the amount of beloved support baffles me. |
Re: Steelers @ Redskins (Pre season game 2)
I am not in support of Grossman over Cousins or RGIII. Grossman over PW for the third QB spot? In a heartbeat.
"PW looked like RG3 running the scheme minus Mach 2 speed at running." ... and minus any of the qualities that make an NFL passer. Did you even read the breakdown? The guy can't complete a pass that has to travel more than 20 yards in the air. PW sucks. Sucks much worse than Grossman. He's barely the equal of Beck or Brennan. |

And I'll make ignorant observations like 'I see Pat White running so that must be the same offense that RG3 was in, because he ran too'. I'll ignore the actual passing element to the offense RG3 was in last year. And I'll overlook that Pat White almost never went through his progressions, while Rex often did. And the fact that Grossman had a much better game against Pittsburgh than White did? Doesn't matter. |

I think its safe to say that if we are relying on Grossman or White as a starter that we are in trouble. Its the third string QB. Neither are going to win consistently against starting defenses. |

He runs the option aspect of it, albeit not as well but pretty good, but does not run the pass-offense at all. That's somewhat important since the two together make it all work. |
