Tyler Polumbus back on a two year deal.

This move confirms for me that we will stick with what we have. So, no solid moves in FA for the line.

Ok im officially loss on all these Tackle signings. Makes no sense.

Makes perfect sense. Not all of them will make the team, but the position will be better as a result of competition.

I'm actually OKAY with Polumbus coming back.

Talks to the faith they have in Compton.

Polumbus is horrible at pass protection. RG3 coming off major knee surgury...Polumbus is certainly not the answer. not bright

LOL. Hopefully none of these signing have guaranteed money.

Let's give Polumbus another shot to start the season. If he's that horrible, he could always lose the job later on.

I don't think it's that reflection, as much as we need two to stick, the starter and the backup. So get enough competition to make sure we cover depth as well. It's really just how this FO has handle every week area (on offense) that we have had.

I have said this before, I think you see Shanahan's ego more on Defense where he gets one guy, and trusts his instincts that he is the player they want, as opposed to offense, where every year we see positions that look like a bunch of mush, and pick the best from it. It's happened at RB, WR, and now RT. No defensive position, that I remember, has gotten nearly the sign a ton, and let the cream rise, as the offensive talent. I wish it would, atleast CB and safeties.

I'm with you despite the fact that I think Polumbus sux in pass pro. Given our $$$ scene, we have little choice but to add cheap talent and hope that some cream rises to the top. Besides, there is still is a long way to go before the season opener and some old vet tackles who are still good always end up in summer cuts from other teams.

of course not, he's borderline horrible. guy can run block ok. thats it.

So lets gets this straight....We've signed 3 vetern Tackles, bringing back Hurt and a rookie who Shanny wanted in Compton last year for competition at the Tackle spot....meanwhile no signings of vetern secondary players. So that means we are happy with the weakest part of the team last year...?

This is probably a really dumb question so if they answer is as simple as "No, they can't do that" that's good enough for me, but could the Skins sign a FA to a 'back-loaded' deal that keeps them under the cap for this year but pushes guaranteed money into next season?

I'd have to assume not but I just figured I'd ask.

Skins avg. 4.7 yards per carry on non-quarterback carries.

I'd say we did have one solid move. We brought back Kory L.

Who knows what will happen at RT. We do know now though that we have our entire OL returning with a couple of injury plagued veterans returing to health. Time will tell if JT or TP can replace Polumbus on the line or if we are just going to ride it out for a year till we get our space back.

Who knows.

This move has nothing to do with our ability to sign or bring in secondary help though.

Well yeah, but it seems if we were going to bring back Tyler, especially on a 2 year deal, it would have been done sooner. Is Compton not ready to back him up?

There were two weak parts to the team last year, Secondary and RT. Bad secondary gives up TD's. Bad RT gives up injuries to RG3. A bad secondary can be fixed with cap space back next year. RG3 can only be fixed so many times by Dr Andrews.

Im all for going after RT.

Btw, what veteran CB was signing for what we got the three tackles at? Its not like we have 30 mil wrapped in cap space this year for the RT's.

artmonkforhallofamein07 03-18-2013 02:13 PM

Re: Official Redskins Free Agency Thread 2013

Exactly Skinzman.

These RTs all got little to no gaurenteed money (TP and JT for sure) and most likely signed vet min deals. They will probably be under the rule of 51 once the roster fills out.

I fail to understand how resigning a player you had on your roster for the last couple of years is taking a step back. Obviously we do not have the cap room to pursue a viable top tier FA at the CB position. If we did, I'm sure we would have done it.

We can easily clear enough cap space to sign anyone at what we paid for those tackles. So if Hall is willing to take that little, he will be a Redskin next year. Contrary to popular belief, signing Pashos or Youngblood was not the reason Hall was cut.

Still hoping Compton can beat out TP, we need to improve at Right Tackle.

We need help at safety. Madieu was awful last year. I can't imagine what it was like for our DB's to put any trust in him. I think if Safety is solidified our DB play will increase tremendously.

If I had a to bracket out the availbable CB...Revis would be seeded #1 and D Hall would be a 16# seed and actually in the playin game. His game is weak son

IMO we know who we want in the defensive backfield. We're just waiting for the market to settle. With each passing day, the Winfields, Halls, etc., of the world get cheaper to sign.

The FO knows best, we have no $$$ so it is what it is, I would have liked to see Ryan Harris at RT for competition.

Re: Official Redskins Free Agency Thread 2013

Pashos is on a one year minimum vet exemption, which means he has practically no effect on the books whatsoever.

If having either Trueblood and Polumbus on the roster indicates a need to upgrade the position, having both is just is kind of silly. I'll give the Redskins the benefit of the doubt here and suggest that Trueblood simply took a lowball offer before the Redskins legitimately knew whether Polumbus would be back.

GTripp0012 03-18-2013 03:23 PM

Re: Official Redskins Free Agency Thread 2013

The roster issue is that we currently have just one guy on the entire roster who can play left tackle. Hurt is probably the backup there. One left tackle to five right tackles isn't a great ratio.

Hopefully this meeting with Davis's agent will come out good, and I think it's interesting that we are trying to bring Grossman back. Seems like Shanny likes what Grossman is doing with Griffin.

I agree with you on this. It seems to me as if they are planning to draft one or go with UFA players. Or maybe they will try Compton at LT in camp?

In game, i would guess Hurt too. However, I would think if Williams were out for any amount of time, Tyler would move to the left side and (if they make the team), one of the new guys would fill in at RT.

Rich Tandler talked about Grossman a while back. He says that Shanahan normally likes to go with two quarterbacks, but with Griffin being questionable for the first few weeks of the season, the team needed a third QB. They're going with Grossman because they need a QB who already knows the playbook and the system because he'll probably only be here a year anyway.
