... and to those that say that this last Giants game doesn't matter overall in evaluating him. Then you better pick a good game that he's had and disregard and downplay that too, lets say, the Packers game. I'm pretty sure you wouldn't do that and by Cousins' reaction after the game- he wouldn't either.
Am I missing something? How is he handling the contract stuff the wrong way??
It's been perpetuated by him the whole season by his intended subtle but passive aggressive comments. One noticeable example of that, even went viral of course- the "How you like me now?" outburst and him disrespectfully putting his hands in McCloughan's hair.

Football's a different business of course, but I think that was far from appropriate.

Who is saying the game doesn't matter? Of course it's part of the evaluation process, but it's 1 game of 32, if he had thrown for 4 scores and we won would you have been ready to back up the money truck to his door?

He didn't have his best game but neither did plenty of others.

Outside of the 'how you like me now' thing, which I saw as more of a celebratory deal after a pretty big win, how has he perpetuated anything negative about his contract during the season?

I know you want to find anything possible to check away in the negative column right now, but I really think you're reaching by trying to say he's been a distraction with the contract stuff. Big time reaching.

Reality is- there is more expected from the QB. He needs to assume the majority of the credit whether they win or lose the game. That's why they get paid the biggest bucks. Goes along with the territory. Whether you like it or not, you can't argue that.

He freely engaged and was willing to talk about it during the season. And the media discussed it at least on a weekly basis. It appeared to be distraction to him and to the team. That shouldn't happen.

And if he had a great game, I would've said he earned the money that he is going to get. But since he had a poor performance, he didn't. So how's that unfair to say?

Just like that you would have been sold?

What if we went to Seattle in round one and got bounced? Would you have immediately changed your tune?

Well yeah, of course the media is going to ask about it constantly and he gave pretty canned and mundane responses.

Did he ever say anything inflammatory or controversial? I'm really struggling to see this angle at all.

Oh even- just the "How you like me know?" was bad enough. But he should have just not talked about it. Just STFU already.

I don't remember any other QB on any team where this was a constant discussion point during the season.

What did he ever say that was so egregious?? I'm still waiting for some proof of how he's such a money grubbing selfish jerk. You're making it seem like he called a weekly press conference to just talk about his contract.

He's only the 2nd QB to play on the franchise tag (Brees 2005), so yeah maybe that's why it's been a topic of discussion.

Egregious?!? Money grubbing selfish jerk?!?

Where are you getting these words from?!? Not from me...

He should've just left everything behind closed doors. No comment. Never positive when talked about in the open.

I know whenever I'm ticked at someone the first thing I do is mess up their hair. And he also had the nerve to shake his hand and give him a hug. What an a-hole.

I think Scot has made up his mind about Cousins value long before the last game was played. To be honest I wouldn't put it past Scot to do any of the three options in the poll. Hell I could even see him signing him and then trading him on draft day for some no. 1 draft picks.

I guess I just can't figure out where you're coming from with this contract thing. You're saying he was in the wrong for talking about it (when asked), the only thing I heard from him this year was things like it's out of my hands for now, we'll deal with it when the time comes, etc. I.E. he never said anything controversial or out of line. So again I just don't see what the big deal is.

Re: Kirk Cousins 24/7 thread

okay..so we tag him for 2017 and have same results..great stats but fails to reach playoffs and has those oh no moments in the big games..so WHAT THEN?? If we lock him up long term deal and same happens..are we not screwed long term?? You have to decide is Kirk the reason we were close or the reason we missed playoffs. I gotta tell you guys His bad play against Giants cost us playoffs..the D held them to 13 points!! are we to give a QB 25 million who can't in his biggest game put up 14 points? at this point to sign him because we don't think we can find another QB is not wise..Dallas found Prescott ..we got Cousins in 4th round. We need to be sure about this long term deal. also is it me or does Kirk act like he really could care less if he plays here or not.For goodness sakes he made 20 million this year..thats a long ways from the mess of qb he was just a few years ago..

lol my ass. We wouldn't be discussing this if it wasn't a big topic. And if it wasn't negative or positive, then why are so many people discussing it.

I think you're a little delusional because you don't see things for what they are. And you like to put words in people's mouths that no one said. And you like to bring up hypotheticals that never happened.

Of course it's a big topic... But you just said this:
We wouldn't be discussing his contract now if he just said no comment.
So if he just said no comment all year, you really think his contract would be a non-issue right now?

I think you're delusional for seeing things that aren't there (how you like me now was a problem? Really?), and you don't seem to understand that yes, hypotheticals never happened. That's why they are hypotheticals.

The only thing I don't like that kirk has said is when asked if he wants to be back his response Is always the same "that's not up to me" reminds me of KD leaving okc, he never was truly committed.. I guess we'll find out soon if kirk wants to be here.

I just don't think you're starting on the same level of understanding.

I don't you'll ever get there with the "no comment" argument.

But let me help you out with the hypotheticals comment I made- you like to do things like bring up and discuss hypotheticals. My point is - there is no point. What's the point?!? - it didn't happen.

Re: Kirk Cousins 24/7 thread

I think feeling like resigning Cousins or letting him go and using the 20-25 million on other positions are both valid arguments. So people can civilly disagree. You can make points on both sides.

My position is if you get him for 20 million or less you resign him, if not franchise him and let him walk after next year if he still won't sign for 20 million or less (unless he improves then possibly the money can go up).

I'd start working on a backup plan for 2018 now. I wonder how much Nate Sudfeld can improve in 1 year. If he doesn't improve, we might see another mid round pick spent on a qb.

My solution is - sign Cousins to a long term deal with the possible option of trading him. This buys time indefinitely to actively find another QB or to see if Cousins gets to the next level.

Either way, it's a win-win for the Redskins and also for Cousins.

If he has some choking games again next year and is getting towards 30 years old, would we be able to find a team that would want to trade for him if his salary is say 24 million? That's the only thing I'd worry about in this scenario.

He's a good starting QB at the very least. And has more than enough years left. Proven good starting QB are hard to find.

It's likely that he retains his trade value in the future. You're right it's still a risk, but less risky than just letting him go without another proven option at qb and also possibly no compensation for him.

sdskinsfan2001 01-02-2017 05:54 PM

Re: Kirk Cousins 24/7 thread

What a load of shit...trying to make it sound like he's some sort of martyr for holding out for every last penny. So Brady has set quarterbacks back to the stone ages apparently. Maybe try showing future quarterbacks that you don't need to bleed every last penny out of your franchise, and actually help the team sign other guys...

“[T]here’s other quarterbacks that come after you and it would be almost a selfish move to hurt future quarterbacks who get in a position to have a contract,” Cousins told 106.7 The Fan in D.C. on Monday. “And if you don’t take a deal that’s fair to you, then you’re also taking a deal that’s not fair to them and you’re setting them back as well. So there’s different reasons. You just do the best you can.”
