Re: Paintrain's all encompassing 'discuss all things offseason' thread (Version 2.0)
Griffin is just way way more mature than Manziel is. Manziel has Ryan Leaf written all over him.
Not true. I give them a slight edge right now. Certainly not a big one.
My thing is, and I've said it a lot, so I'm not breaking new ground. They got a lot of solid players, some of that do to wise trades which means they got a win in the trade. We got our qb. Every year we had a question, and resources time and energy in scouting was wasted looking at qb's, questions of qb competitions, and divided fans and teammates as to who should be the starter, or who we should get as the starter, or why don't we have a starter. It was endless, and I am sure fatiguing for every player that wore the Skins uniform (at least offense, and probably defense). We know that Griffin has top level talent, and has a division title under his belt. I say that's a win for us. Especially considering the relatively barren qb drafts the last 2 years. I understand the argument could be made that we could have had Tannehill or Wilson, but we also could have had Weeden, Osweiler, Foles (who I am not a believer in), Manuel, Smith, Glennon ... AND with any one of those guys we would still be thinking is there someone better. My guess is regardless of who we took, it would turn into yet another Jason Campbell, or Patrick Ramsey saga that dragged us through another 3-5 years of guessing game qb play. so it was a win for us. Ultimately, why does there have to be a winner and loser, in this case both teams got the end result they wanted from the trade. Win Win. |
Manziel is a media darling but I dont think its because of good reasons like RG-3 was in the beginning. I think Manziel has an uphill climb ahead of him as far as his reputation goes. As far as Griffs rep going South, Im pretty sure most people realize it was Shannys fault for the most part. I think griff still has a pretty good rep.
Re: Manziel's rep. Probably true, but the fact remains that right now he's a popular figure in the media. You have to think that at some point there's a good chance that he'll have a falling out and be painted as a bad guy. A young superstar with the power of RG3 or Manziel could be quite vulnerable to that, considering today's social media scene. Just me being cynical, but I've wondered before if maybe some in the media made special care to praise Griffin up to a point where people got tired of reading about him, so that when they brought the diva/coachkiller hammer down on him, it would be that much more powerful and accepted that much sooner that RG3 was really a bad guy, not the good guy that they'd got so tired of reading about. Just an elaborate scheme to sell more papers and increase the views on their articles. Re: Griffin's rep. Not true. Go to any NFL team message board, and begin reading. Pretty much unanimous that RG3 isn't the guy people thought he was coming out of college. And then there's also lots of people who think he went from a nice humble kid out of college, and changed into the "diva" he is now. SMH. It sucks, but it is what it is. Or more accurately in RG3's case, "It isn't what it is, it's what it can be made to look like." |

Manziel would win in a landslide. He is already painted as a bad guy. Manziel has had on and off the field issues. Griff had a falling out of sorts with Shanahan. Said a thing or two after a game that got blown out of proportion. Maybe his rep (Griffs) isnt as "golden boy" as it was his rookie year, but he is nothing like Manziel. |

Griffin's character was smeared pretty severely by the prior coaching staff on the way out. Not sure he ever emerges as the Golden Boy again. The funny thing is, the nation doesn't know either RG3 or Johnny Manziel well enough to pass any sort of judgment on their character. That has not ever stopped them before. |

Read the research on his college career, how he handled being on and leading a football team. The red flags aren't the diva actions, the red flags is his work ethic and conduct within the confines of "team". Simply put, rg3 >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>Manziel. Johhny cakes has multiple issues |
You sure that was real?
I took it as true based on the initials on the report being the same as a pats employee/scout. The fact the pats were actively searching for a qb, visited with Manziel, explains the thoroughness of the research. And when belicheat didn't deny the report. Seemed legit. |

Based purely on what is out there, and what has transpired with both - whether true or not - Manziel is light years beyond Griff in the diva world imo though. I think if Griff returns to form and wins and keeps his work ethic where its at, and most importantly, says the rite things on camera - that he can be pretty much the Golden Boy again. |
Re: Paintrain's all encompassing 'discuss all things offseason' thread (Version 2.0)
One thing that is true, with this being Griffin's 3rd year, the media will have moved on unless something extremely positive or negative happens. Sure local media will make hay, and some hype will be true, but now is when his professionalism either makes him a franchise qb, or his diva tendencies tear him down. The media has gotten their double portion from his entry into the league, and they are hungry for new blood (Johnny Football will happily provide it).
I expect Griffin to come to work day in/day out. Take over leadership of this team, and leave the past in the past. At least that's what I hope he does. |
I dont really see Griff as a diva? Maybe as a fan I dont want to. I see him more as a young kid with the weight of a franchise (a desperate one), and a major injury that might have just gotten into his head a little. I just dont see a spoiled, attention hungry, me first guy who only cares about himself.

Okay the Tackle depth at Texas A&M is starting to get ridiculous.

He is expected to become A&M's third top-10 lineman in the draft in three years.
Speaking of A&M if the Patriots scouting report of Johnny Leaf is real then he's going to be out of the league sooner rather than later. Leaked Internal Scouting Report: The Patriots Do Not Like Johnny Manziel Highlights:
- JL 8/22 -Vibe on this guy keeps getting worse. Support staff members are sick of him and ready for him to go. - Doesn't study the game, said to know about 60% of the offense in '12, never watches film; one source said only time he watched film during '12 was before ALUN. [Alabama] - What you see on TV and how he is portrayed, that's him; but when you talk to him, you'll like him'. Coaches love his tuffs/competes, they want to go to war with him, but 'Johnny will be Johnny' during the week -Comes from 'outlaw bloodlines', mom moved the family to Kerrville to get away from father's wild family. Father's family is said to be very shady people, always into something, they are the root of Johnny's personality - Knows how to scheme the system, arrogant and full of himself, but he's not smug to coaches. - Has been like this since Day 1, has never gone to class, goes to beat of own drum, but has ultimate confidence - Teammates don't dislike him, but there's some resentment, more so in the offseason when he isn't coming to workouts and they are busting their butt - Will never take football seriously enough for our coaching staff, he'll hate meetings, will have to drag him to work out, etc. The definition of the word maintenance.
I mean I heard the spoiled brat part before hand but I didn't realize the other stuff they apparently uncovered. Based on this he should have been picked no earlier then the 5th round. |
