Re: Skins getting heat again over name issue
You are not following my good man. If a very large, overwhelming majority of Native American have no problem with the Redskins name...when asked repeatedly......ask yourself, why are we here? Look around a bit...traffic signals are suddenly racist, Abe Lincoln statues must be torn down...who is telling you this silliness?
No Chico as usual you are not following. Other posters have explained those surveys to you, and have also explained over and over that even if a few are bothered that it is a few too many. This is part of a much bigger issue. This is a branch on the racist tree that has been growing in America for hundreds of years. It bothers the piss out of you that is going to change we get it. So take your ridiculous articles that you think are going to paint all the real issues in the same light and go watch more Fox news. Sincerely, Dick face Punch |

Sincerely, Dick face Punch
Yeah the thing is, the small amount of Native tribes that are upset is the issue. The PR is just too negative and honestly not worth the bs anymore because we all know it's never going away. So just change the name and move on, honestly it may bring us some better mojo anyway |

Well I understand there are not millions of Native Americans who are marching, but as others have noted the surveys are severely flawed and again this is about racism in general. Not just NA’s. When Malcolm Jenkins went off on Brees I was like good for him, but where is he now about Desean? You cannot pick and choose parts of racism to get up in arms about. It is all or nothing. And I completely agree about the mojo. We have seen so much crazy bad luck over the last 25 years that I think every one of us at some point in a game thread has said change the name we r cursed. Lol Cannot be a little bit racist. Try telling your wife you cheated a little bit. |
Re: Skins getting heat again over name issue
Been defending the name my entire life Okie. Using the same reasoning...they are called Redskins on their teams, the logo is proud. The song is proud. Etc etc. I look at it completely different now. No matter how small a part of the problem it is part of the problem. If changing it becomes a small part of the solution im all for it.

Re: Skins getting heat again over name issue
Comes down to issue fatigue for me more than anything. I'm just done with it. The drama isn't going away so just change it and be done with it once and for all. I just want to watch football. Shit about uniforms and names and fight songs are trivial in the big picture.

I feel very similar. I have even decided regardless of perception we need to look at actual data and the impacts. This is a review research paper (a paper that asks a research question and then finds papers that validate and refute the research question). In this case the psychological effects of Native American mascots on Native American students. It is an interesting read, it also is not definitive. That too but it is time for change. Big picture change. I always thought it would bother me (in a football sense if they changed their name, uniforms etc, but honestly Im excited for it. Not just in a right and wrong way but in a football way. We need a fresh start. Im totally holding my breath about Snyder being forced out. God that would be the freshest of starts. |

CHICAGO (AP) -- The Chicago Blackhawks say they will continue to use their team name because it honors a Native American leader who has been an inspiration to generations.
"The Chicago Blackhawks name and logo symbolizes an important and historic person, Black Hawk of Illinois' Sac & Fox Nation, whose leadership and life has inspired generations of Native Americans, veterans and the public," the NHL team said in a statement Tuesday. RELATED: GOV. HOGAN AGREES REDSKINS' NAME IS A SLUR "We celebrate Black Hawk's legacy by offering ongoing reverent examples of Native American culture, traditions and contributions, providing a platform for genuine dialogue with local and national Native American groups. As the team's popularity grew over the past decade, so did that platform and our work with these important organizations. "We recognize there is a fine line between respect and disrespect, and we commend other teams for their willingness to engage in that conversation. Moving forward, we are committed to raising the bar even higher to expand awareness of Black Hawk and the important contributions of all Native American people. " https://www.nbcsports.com/washington/redskins/chicago-blackhawks-explain-history-team-name-plan-continue-using-it Best case scenario I think would be for the skins to be renamed after an actual tribe. There is a difference btw "redskins" and "blackhawks" ... one is on the right side of the line, the other is not |

Why do you fucking care so much? Are you Native American? If you are not, stop speaking for other people. Native American have been and continue to get the shaft from the government and other people. If a group of Native American organizations are opposing the name, we should listen to them. I'm sick of people acting like inconveniences are oppressing. Having your favorite team's name is just an inconvenience, is not the end of the world. There are many people going through a lot of true oppression, let's stop overreacting to minor things like a team changing their fucking name. |
Referring to this ...it’s just getting very toxic ..I get on here because I love the team .. nobody knows anything about anybody else except we all love the team .. it just seems like certain guys can get on here and tell people to shut the fuck up .. and then say fuck white people.. I say WTF is up with all that nonsense ? Does anybody moderate at all and can you just say anything ? Maybe I’m to damn old to deal with this nonsense ..
Years back I got kick off this site had to come back under a different name. Guess I might now get kick off again. LOL |

I’ve already said, like MTK above, just change it. I care because it’s not racist...saying it is, is an outright lie. People who are offended should have left the fan base a long time ago. Oh yes, US...the land of oppression. Please gtfo |
Re: Skins getting heat again over name issue
The way I see it if you're in a group of people telling others what shouldn't bother them, you're just as bad as those telling others what should bother them.
It's not a stretch to think a word that's defined in the dictionary as being racist, is offensive to some people. Would we even consider naming a team today Redskins? Of course not. |
