I'd say Locker is the most ready To play QB in this draft.
I would say Mallett, Stanzi, Ponder, McElroy, Locker, Tyrod Taylor. But, the advantage the pro-style QBs have might only last till training camp. |

On one hand I hate the idea of hoping to bank on Free Agency to upgrade the front 7 (ie no first or second round pick on a front 7 guy). However at the same time if they see Gabbert as the type of player that's going to be on the same level as a Bradford or Ryan then it would certainly be worth it. I mean if we're going to get a QB we might as well do it right and get possibly the best prospect rather then settling for the 3rd or 4th guy. Oh and hey....huh huh huh....maybe it's a SMOOTscreen. Huh huh huh. I made a funny. |

This is what was basically said. Unless Gabbert or Newton falls to the #10 spot, don't expect a QB taken. It's either Quinn or they will be looking to move back. The above information is current at it's time, but always subject to change. :) Besides, we have absolutely nothing to offer as ammo to move up even if our coaches were that stupid. |
Re: 2011 NFL Draft
Move up for who?? Gabbert? Newton?

If he was told anything it's a smokescreen. |
Re: 2011 NFL Draft
This is a joke, who would the redskins trade?? We have no picks or players lol of anything we will trade down. Basically there is nothing to talk about and in the past the skins have made some retarded moves so let's just make shit up and see if people buy it.
|
Re: 2011 NFL Draft
I think the rumor about moving up is a smokescreen to enhance pick value.
That said, those who say that we have no ammunition are forgetting draft picks from 2012 being used. Also, a guy from the Houston Chronicle could know something through a Kyle Shanahan connection. |
Re: 2011 NFL Draft
Yeah I understand 2012 but do we really want to start letting those go also? Honestly if we would do that and draft Gabbert then he's the guy from day 1 , just like Sam last year and Matt Ryan a few years back. I just don't see any way this will happen

I was not arguing we SHOULD trade 2012 picks. I'm against that strategy. But we COULD. |

Re: 2011 NFL Draft
Just for you guys keeping score at home. It seems the Skins have Dalton rated a bit higher than Locker right now. This little tidbit below is from a legit insider on another forum. He also throws his opinion in on the matter in regards to Dalton vs Locker. Seems the house is mixed over the two QBs.
After all the talk today im still being told its Dalton over Locker but its close and it shouldnt be . I honestly believe this decision either pushes us towards success or keeps us in the same turmoil we have become accustomed to. Last season the mistake was made on easter so why repeat it again on draft night is beyond me. Hopefully Quinn is available at ten and the decison is taken out of the skins hands as to who is available. Im so tired of ego, pride, and square pegs in round holes. Sometimes the stuff you hear just makes me .(angry face)

That's fine you can disagree all you want but some of our own scouts compare him to a young donovan. His issues with footwork are identical with mcnabbs with the overstride/hop ect. Locker would be a good prospect in my mind if mike Shanahan were running the offense but he is not. Kyles offense doesn't need a mobile runningback for a qb, he needs a smart/accurate one from the pocket. Locker has displayed a lot of physical ability but has never shown it as a pure qb. Taking locker while being a 2 year project is a huge gamble with a impatient owner. Locker could fix his issues and come around but a lot of people feel it is going to be hard to rid him of the ingrained baseball mechanics.
I enjoy reading this guy's posts because you can pretty much bank on it's the truth at the time he posts. I happen to agree with his opinion on the discussion with Dalton vs Locker as well. Just thought I'd share with you guys. |
Re: 2011 NFL Draft
Here's Mallet (I thought he was actually pretty solid)
QB Camp: Ryan Mallett - ESPN Video - ESPN and Dalton (I'm still not really seeing the fascination) QB Camp: Andy Dalton - ESPN Video - ESPN
Good stuff with Mallett, and damn can he throw or what |
Re: 2011 NFL Draft
You don't need to go to another board to know Dalton is rated slightly higher than Locker...but always good to confirm with a second source. Still Quinn is the top choice
|
Re: 2011 NFL Draft
Mallett has a rare arm
|
Re: 2011 NFL Draft
You tell him Smoot!
|
Re: 2011 NFL Draft
I don't want to make a huge deal of it but I don't exactly love the fact that the Shannys seem to have differing views when it comes to the type of QB that is best for the Redskins. That seems like a pretty big issue for Head Coach and OC to differ on...
|
Re: 2011 NFL Draft
And also if a pocket passer is the target and not a scrambler like Locker then we should look at Mallet who seems to have much more upside then Dalton.

Re: 2011 NFL Draft
Who knows what to believe anymore?
Reports are the team interested in Newton. Report MS interested in moving up to get Gabbert. Report KS likes Dalton a lot. havn't heard much about the rest. All I can say is there are other teams who need a QB and I sincerly hope the team does not throw everything away to move up. I'd rather they drop back out of the #10 spot and get extra picks. Personally I'd rather have Dalton. He's got the arm, he's got the accuracey, he's got the mobility, and has good character. I'm actually really supprised the rest of you have not jumped on that bandwagon alone. Especially the character guys. |
Re: 2011 NFL Draft
I don't think they're going to take Dalton. But that might just be wishful thinking
|
Re: 2011 NFL Draft
If Kyle wants a pocket passer, do they draft Mallett?

Some good comments on Dalton and as you will see he does run well:

Re: 2011 NFL Draft
I just can't believe that many draft boards only have ONE running back (Ingram) going in the first round. I think many have taken to the multi rb systems and their value has plumetted. Alot of people trying to be a shanahan, and turn those rough late rounders into polished gems.
|
Re: 2011 NFL Draft
^ this RB class appears to be weak but I'm sticking with DMurray as the sleeper back similar to a Felix jones but even more injured in college. Leshore to me is more of a short yardage guy like ATV. Ingram was damn good in college but he's slow and small, unless your * cough* ESmith I don't think that works well in the NFL.

Re: 2011 NFL Draft
Dalton, the next Joe Theisman? Similar styles

SS, as we wind down to a couple weeks left until the draft, are there any names your hearing we might target with our late picks? Any sleepers who are good fits from any sources? Thanks |
Re: 2011 NFL Draft
Trading up for a QB?
:nono: John McClain of the Houston Chronicle reports he hears the Redskins are trying like crazy to trade up to get one of the quarterbacks, presumably Blaine Gabbert out of Missouri. Some mocks have them taking quarterback Jake Locker if they stay at 10. What a reach that would be, but Mike Shanahan loves mobile quarterbacks who can throw on the run Redskins might trade up to draft a quarterback |
^ yeah Jake Locker :)
Ha, I'd be ok with that...or Ponder. Not feeling Dalton |
Re: 2011 NFL Draft
My bold prediction with this qb class and their rankings in the NFL.
1. Dalton 2. Ponder 3. Locker 4. Gabbert 5. Newton Their draft order might be the complete 180 degree opposite. That's how bold this prediction is. |
