Yes, a joke. I kind of feel bad for the Giants. The media's gonna talk about this win for 1 day and then turn their attention to the Peyton fiasco that's going to follow. |

The thing is, we lack playmakers. I view Richardson as one of the premier ones coming into the draft. Helu and Royster are nice players, don't get me wrong, but they are not on the same level IMO. And I'm someone who usually would go against drafting RB that high. It's just an intriguing option to me given who's likely going to be available when we pick. |

When a franchise makes the decision that they 'prefer' another QB they are telling everyone that they don't believe the QB the had could become a franchise QB. That is the ultimate de-valution. You can label it however you like. But if the Rams draft RGIII it is what it is. All this is moot though, because I don't think the Rams are gonna draft RGIII. And if they do I would be more then happy for the Allen/Shanahan to steal Bradford from them on the cheap.[/quote] Who are you referring to when you say "franchise" because in St louis the decision makers who believed in Bradford are all gone? |

Blackmon's not going to be there when we pick. @ 6 it looks like our options are going to be Richardson, Reiff and maybe Claiborne. If not we'll need to trade down or reach. I'm not actually against any of those options. I just wouldn't necessarily rule out drafting Richardson at this point. |
Re: The "Inside Word" on the QB Search
For those that want Richardson I ask, when was the last time a premier RB started in the Super Bowl?
We've had a lot of RBs by committee in the SB for the past couple of seasons, including this year's SB. I just feel that spending a top 10 pick on a RB is not that much worth it anymore. |

Doesn't everyone think Helu and Royster looked good enough last year to be the future without having to give up our top pick for a RB? That would be silly IMO. |

Guys like AP, Lesean McCoy, Matt Forte, and Chris Johnson are great players, but it's just seems like RB's these days aren't the players that really put teams over the hump. It's a passers league now more than ever. Safties, corners, WRs, QB's, and even TE's (as this past season has showed us) are skyrocketing in importance. Look at the most recent SB champions- Giants, Steelers, Saints, Packers, Giants.... None have really had a workhorse back. I think Trent Richardson is an excellent player, but I wouldn't be happy at all if we took him at #6. |
Re: The "Inside Word" on the QB Search
unless its AP, you shouldn't draft RBs in the first round. QBs, LTs, and DL guys are much harder to find outside of round 1 that'll make a huge difference... 1st round CBs aren't a bad idea either.

Gamechanger or not, we already have other holes that need to be filled first, and as history has shown, Shanny has had no problem getting production out of lesser backs. In fact, Shanny is the one coach who will probably never take a running back in the first round. |
Re: The "Inside Word" on the QB Search
Assuming we got Peyton Manning, I think you'd burn the first pick on either the offensive line or a top notch corner. I'm sure Manning would appreciate solid pass protection up front.
Running backs just don't rule the NFL anymore. It's become very pass happy, and I used to be one of those who would argue against this point up and down, but I realize this is the truth now. Richardson could probably be picked up by somebody in the late first round if not second. That's just how it is with running back nowadays. |

If we had Clinton Portis and little else on our roster, I think Richardson would be worthy of some strong consideration. But Helu, Royster, and Hightower (if we bring him back), we're looking pretty deep/strong. Maybe we take another Royster-type guy in the later rounds, but I'd be surprised if Trent is anywhere near our radar. If he's there at 6 though, maybe we trade down with a team coveting him. |
Re: The "Inside Word" on the QB Search
It would really only take one surprise for Blackmon to be available when we draft. I can easily see it happening.

I hope that's the case. Blackmon is a nice consolation prize if our qb isn't there at 6 and they don't want to trade up to get him. |
Is Grossman paid starter money or a back up?

I think he will be there at 6 mainly because Seattle or Miami is likely to trade up with St. Louis for RGIII. The question is weather the Redskins take him or try to trade down for more picks. I think they're trying to figure out a way to get Tannehill along with another offensive blue chip prospect. Ideally they probably would love Blackmon in the first and Tannehill in the second but I have doubts that Tannehill will last that long. And they don't seem enamored with Foles. |

He is a free agent as of the first couple of weeks of March. He is not under contract for next year. |

He was paid back up money to be a starter last year. He's currently a UFA. |

I'm not so sure that's true, but Wright and Floyd get mentioned as much if not more. I think you could see them move up into the mid to bottom of the first for a guy like Tannehill (possibly Weeden) or down into the mid to bottom of the 2nd/top of the 3rd for a Foles/Cousins Or that 3rd rounder might be heading to NE for Hoyer |

This early in the game most people are speculating, generally based on info that is allowing them to make these inferences. So, knowing that Brown's less than 50% to return, knowing that they are looking to target WR and OG in Free Agency, knowing that Trent Williams is "one strike away" and putting aside the QB scenario for a minute it's not too difficult to look at OT and DB as two positions that could be targeted at the #6 |
Re: The "Inside Word" on the QB Search
Pretty sure he's said we could go OT and that Reiff and Martin would seem to be the guys. I think it depends how we approach the OL in FA

I still can't shake the feeling that taking a chance on a guy that has been a backup for another team could end up like Kolb in Arizona or Cassell in Kansas City. For what those teams gave up I don't think they have been producing near enough to justify it. We have so many holes to fill it seems like that 3rd round draft pick could be put to better use IMO. |
Re: The "Inside Word" on the QB Search
Personally I'm warming up to the idea of PM "IF" thats what the team wants to do, but they need to have a plan "B" in place. PM's doctor said he's healthy enough to play which means he's healed and can take a hit, but his numbness in his arm is going to cause some problems. I think I read his doctor saying something like he should get the feeling back around March/April which if we take him gives a little time prior to the draft to see if he's getting better. However if he's in the same situation he is in now then I can't see any other option other then to draft a QB either at #6 or try to trade back to late 1st round and still get a QB.
WR is another issue. Hopefully we can pick up atleast 1 FA and then draft another to compliment Hankerson and give whoever we have as QB some weapons. and at this point I'd take either RT or FS then CB. |

At least Cassell played a whole season in NE, so I don't fault them for going after them. Also, Cassell had an okay year last season, things just fell apart for the Chiefs in general this season. But it is hard to overlook at the Kolb situation and be comfortable going after a back that has seen very limited action. |

Hey Smoot -
Have you heard anything about trading in to the #2 spot (Rams) with our 6th, 39th, 70th this year and 1st in 2013? How about anything where Rams are trying to pit Browns and Skins against each other by blowing smoke about taking RGiii and trading Bradford? Think I'd be ticked if we move up for that cost of picks. |
Re: The "Inside Word" on the QB Search

So why does it say anything about Bradford if people who never drafted him in the first place would rather trade him for a bunch of picks and draft their own guy? Maybe the Redskins make them an offer they can't refuse. The current Rams front office is not emotionally invested in Bradford...at this point he's just another asset to them. I just don't think it's necessarily a negative on Bradford if they decide to trade him. |

No team in any situation trades a QB they consider to be franchise caliber. And if they draft RGIII and attempt to trade Bradford (i don't think they will) it says that the new staff doesn't view Bradford as a franchise caliber QB. And if they don't view him as a franchise caliber QB they can't turn around and expect premium compensation for him. If they draft RGIII its certainly a negative on his value. To be clear I still think Bradford is a franchise caliber QB and I don't think they'll draft RGIII and try to trade Bradford. |

After watching Eli and Brady last night I want a franchise QB. If Peyton is healthy and a free agent, Skins should get him.
