The NFLs a funny league and anything can happen. I agree with Atlanta/Green Bay and New England. Houston is a team who is losing key guys, but they'll adjust (has anyone posted that Ed Reed is supposed to meet with Houston tomorrow?), because they draft well. This Indy team is going to be interesting with all these FAs and young draft picks.
Anything can happen, that is why I am not going to count out Pitt. Any team with an elite QB has a chance for a superbowl. Indy lost an important receiver in Avery, and I am not so sure about the coaching situation. They just seemed to be the typical overachiever and feel good story and I don't think they will have a consistent winning team. But we will see. Plus the colts are making a lot of noise right now. A lot of changes sometimes is not always a good thing. Should be interesting with Houston. Schaub is still there which makes me question them but most people were questioning Flacco all the way to the superbowl. |
Who does Pitt get to replace James Harrison, Casey Hampton, (maybe) Keenan Lewis, Mike Wallace, Max Starks, Mendenhall. Add to that the fact that Polamalu has been getting hurt more, and Heath Miller is coming off a torn ACL (he may be a FA too..?) I just don't see it. I see Cincy winning that division. Hell even Baltimore I can see being better than them with all their losses.
Their running game got better with Dwyer and Redmen. Jason Worilds was a beast at VA. Tech and he will step in for Harrison and they won't miss a beat. Steelers always have a drafted guy that's ready to take over for an older vet that's on his way out. |

Good teams usually have players who haven't had much playing time, but who the coaches believe will be ready to step into a role. I expect both Pitt and Baltimore to have those guys on their roster, and I think the Skins may finally be getting to that place too. Just because a guy doesn't beat out an all-pro who is established on the roster doesn't mean that he won't be able to become an all-pro in his own right. |
Re: Around the NFL Free Agency Thread 2013
If the Giants get a first for Cruz it will be a good deal for them, yes Cruz is a great wideout but when you think of how the Giants took an undrafted free agent and turned him into a Pro Bowler worth a first round pick it speaks to one of the things you are doing right as an organization.
With all that said I would be remiss if I didn't say F Mara and the Giants, stupid a-holes, not only getting rid of 36 million of our cap money, but for turning an undrafted free agent into a player worth a first round pick.
That's one way to look at it, the "profit" from flipping Cruz. However, how do they replace his production? Even if they use that 1st-round pick on a WR, that's a position with probably the highest rate of draft busts. Cruz has become one of the most productive WRs in the game and you don't just plug-and-play with that caliber of a player. They really screwed themselves by paying both Eli and the often-injured and less productive than Cruz WR named Nicks. They can't afford to pay both Nicks AND Cruz #1 WR money and they both demand it. Cruz is likely leaving NJ. I believe the teams around the league have been waiting for Wallace, Jennings and Welker's deals to be done before moving onto Cruz who might take a little more money because they'll have to outbid the Giants, but with their cap situation, it can be done. The Giants can get big value for Cruz...BUT they can't replace him on the field. |

Interesting. |
Re: Around the NFL Free Agency Thread 2013
Just a little late on that news, bud.
The Colts are making some great moves, especially in the secondary, that's 3 solid DBs signed. Landry is a great player when healthy. I think they'll really regret the 4 years though. I'm glad someone overpaid so we were priced out of the risk. I loved LaRon when he was here but it was just an experiment that failed and it wouldn't be wise to try it again. I don't know if we'll ever see another season like he had last year, playing all 16 games. Interesting how he could never get on the field here, but when he was playing for a contract, suddenly he's healthy. I'd love to see him on the field for us again but the risk that once paid he'll go back to the old LaRon is just too high. What we need now are safeties who can stay healthy. We already have a similar situation with Meriweather. We've seen what happens when we're playing 2nd and 3rd-string safeties as starters...please, not again. We need to get some of these CBs in FA...there's a TON of quality CBs available. Then in the draft...hit the safety positions hard. |
Re: Around the NFL Free Agency Thread 2013
I missed the last page; past my bed time. Anywho good luck to the Colts.

Re: Around the NFL Free Agency Thread 2013
14 million for Landry? Not sure what Indy was thinking on that one. He's a good player but he gets exposed in coverage. But good for him. Glad he's been able to stay healthy and get paid.

But as of right now, yes if Harvin can stay healthy. |
Re: Around the NFL Free Agency Thread 2013
The thing is they HAVENT been stupid with money in the past, they have built through the draft.
That team is ready so its time to go for it and take some chances. Good moves by Seattle. |

4 years / $20 mil. We couldn't compete with that. The same link shows that SD also picked up our former draft pick Chad Rhino. |
