If you get the rebel variety pack they are both in there. Plus the original rebel (meh) and grapefruit rebel (I'm over the grapefruit craze.) For the other 2 though the 12 pack is worth it. The others are serviceable...haha

Re: Let's talk good beer

a clerk at perfect pour told me that they should have about 99 cases of founders breakfast stout by the end of september. So i assume by late september it should be everywhere.

i moved to columbia so perfect pour is my new local shop. I like that they have a mix six option where you can select any individual 12 oz to make up your six. Before there were beers i wanted to try but was hesitant to throw down $15-20 on a total unknown (been disappointed to many times before). I got to stillwater's stout "folklore" (unique, 4/5), bells special double cream stout (mild, 4/5), eviltwin DK stout (solid, 4.25/5), bells kalamazoo (really good, 4.25/5), laguinitas aunt sally (mild sour ale, 4/5).

The sixer ended up costing me close to $20 but to be able to try a cross section of beers was nice.

Would you "cellar" the breakfast stout? And by cellar I mean put a couple 4 packs in the darkest coldest corner of my basement. I do like stouts that are mealy and have a thicker grainy quality to it.

I get beer shipped from france44 in MN and johns grocery in Iowa. I just signed up for Tavour.

Before you sign up look for promo codes (i didnt but wish I did) and if you refer a friend, you get $10 credit. So refer a friend. Matty you could have made some money if you sent ppl the link via facebook or twitter or email.

But it doesnt seem to offer an inventory of beers. It appears that it will randomly send you an email about a beer or two and if you like it, they will ship it. Kinda bummed you cant browse an inventory but im interested to see what kind of beers they offer.
---------------------------------

never mind. just got an email that they are limited to only a few states right now and MD aint one of them.

Prison City brewery -- apparently a really really good start up brewery in Auburn, NY. Lots of hype, ive read about them a couple of different places now. I dont think their beers are being distributed yet but if anyone see it on shelves, can you post where please?
---------------
finally found some fresh two hearted, with a somewhat tweaked label. Been a long time since I found some within 30 days fresh.

rar - has anyone else noticed that their beer is now 60 plus days old on the shelves? They always had fresh beer (w in 15 days) but since they took over their own distribution a few months ago, i have not seen fresh rar in over a month. they all have early july dates.

weird and disappointing. they were a go-to for fresh, juicy good local beer. I wonder if distributors didnt somehow sabotage them.

Re: Let's talk good beer

Re: most spent on a case: Has to be Tree House when i went up in April. Averaged out to like $100/case (if had been able to buy a case...Haze and Alter Ego were around $4.25/can). Next to that is Rar, which was $70-80/case of their monthly releases. Going to hit up Veil soon and that'll be around $90/case. And then Trillium in Boston can be upwards of $120/case. Mostly mixed cases, will drink some, gift some, trade some.

rar - I haven't bought any in a while, but I'll keep an eye out for it. My local shop usually has fresh, but who knows. If they're doing their own distro, they'll definitely be siding towards the shop that hock their beers the most. They used to go through Legends...which is one of the bigger distros for craft in MD.

otm - Perfect Pour is an awesome shop. I get out there once in a blue moon. And now that you're in Columbia, you'll be frequenting Victoria's, Frisco's and White Oak Tavern more frequently.

Auburn NY you say? One of my wife's sorority sisters/best friends is a cop for Auburn PD with her husband. I'll have to put in a request for a sampler. They are getting together in Denver next month, so I'm gonna see what she can bring back from there that we can't get here as well.

what's a good beer in a similar vein as yuengling? i miss that stuff out here in socal.

OnceWeWereKings 09-25-2016 12:22 PM

Re: Let's talk good beer

I don't really know anything that reminds me of yeungling...it's been such a staple since I was able to have beer since it's so close to me. There used to be this really cheap beer called Lakeport lager that my friends and I all thought tasted similar, and it was super cheap. Not sure if that stuff even exists anymore since it's been 15 years or so since we got it for beer pong tournaments..

OnceWeWereKings 09-25-2016 12:24 PM

Re: Let's talk good beer

In addition, the placebo effect is strong. Yuengling is hard for me to drink these days cause I found out they brew with corn and corn grit, so now whenever I drink it I feel like I can taste corn. Really turned me off to it, even though I'm sure it's just in my head.

Flying Dog hosts a Movie Series at the Weinberg Center in Frederick. Happy Hour ($4 FD beers, usually have 4-5 to choose from, a few brewery reps hang out and answer questions) before the movie starts. Only bummer is no alcohol in the theatre itself, so you slam a few in the lobby beforehand. 1st Movie (The Big Lebowski) is tonight: Flying Dog Film Series | Weinberg Center for the ArtsWeinberg Center for the Arts

I've been slacking lately on the beer front. Time and money have been 2 factors. Going to grab some new stuff this weekend. May even slide down to Leesburg to grab some WW.

What the hell is going on w RAR and Manor Hill? For the past year, every time you stepped into any beer store you could count on these 2 local brewers to have super fresh beer. Consistently, every single time. Canned within 15 days fresh. Those 2 became my go to, easy drinker IPAs.

I havent seen Manor Hills IPA on the shelves in over a month and every RAR Nanticoke either doesnt have a dob date or has a 7/11/16 date.

Got some more wicked weed (gose and golden ale), disappointed i havent seen Pernicious yet.

Yet again, only real fresh IPA beer I could find was grapefruit sculpin.

Lagunitas Sucks has a fresh batch in the area now. Date 9/02. The Pernicious I got was 9/09 and that was last week. The Truth is always my go to for fresh IPA. Its almost always fresh.

Went to Oktoberfest in Carroll County to celebrate my big 4-0 yesterday. The beer was from Pub Dog Brewery in Federal Hill/Columbia. The Oktoberfest Marzen was one of the better Oktoberfesst I've had.

On a personal note I brewed a new IPA recipe well balanced with Columbia and Chinook hops it is solid. I am going to brew a Maple Amber Ale to have ready for Halloween when I take the kids out trick or treating. I'll let you know how that comes out.

Grabbed a mixed 6er at my local spot here in Frederick last Friday and saw Nanticoke Nectar cans dated 9/26. I didn't look at the Groove City cans (Hefes, am I right?). Haven't looked for Manor Hill IPA lately. I know both breweries are hellaslammed with all their different things going on. But 7/11 Nectars is not cool at all. I'd hit up rar and let them know when and where you're finding those.
