If Hankerson continues to show us what he did last year before his injury, Moss continues to be a solid contributor, as well as Garcon on Morgan, I don't think there's room for Gaffney nor Banks. I like Banks a lot, but unless he can show some skills as being a wide receiver, I think his days are numbered.

Banks is our 3rd string QB!

But seriously, is banks just a return specialist? Did he do much actual WR work in college or was his job mostly just returning kicks? He's so damn small for a WR, I couldn't see him being extremely effective unless he had like a 3ft vertical.

Gaffney is about to be traded and Banks didn't make the roster the last two seasons by being a wide receiver. If Banks has a couple of long returns on punts and kickoffs in preseason, expect him to remain.

Mike Shanahan makes me so mad with his micro managing style. He's about to trade his best WR from last year. Gaffney can be a difference maker possession receiver or not and plus he's a veteran with experience. Apparently Gaffney is not an effective YAC guy, and you have to be a YAC guy if you're operating in the west coast offense.

I'm very disappointed to see Jabar Gaffney go.

Definitely.

He's been a solid but nothing spectacular kind of player over the course of his career, but if he's leading your team in most receiving categories, that's not a good thing.

Someone had to go, and it wasnt going to be Hankerson, Morgan, or Garcon. I think Jabar's 2.7 cap figure and the cap penalty handed down from the league did more to make this happen than the twitter incident.

Moss has been our best receiver for years, but he was never going to be a #1 NFL receiver. He will be used best when lined up in the slot with some guys on the outside who scare people. Garcon and Hankerson/Morgan will allow Shanny to use Moss the way a 5'9" receiver should be used, in the slot creating mismatches. What was once a very weak core has become a deep and talented one, with huge upside. Out with the old Banks, Gaffney etc. in with the new!

When are we going to add Royal back to this thread? J/K LOL

He seems a bit lightweight for a TE. Unless he's bulked up in the offseason. Aren't most TEs in the 240s and higher weight range?

That's just prototypical tight ends who are 6'3, 6[4, 6'5, and 6'6 who weigh 240-260 pounds these days. Paul could possibly play TE. If he has the strength to block LBs and DEs, then his size shouldn't really matter.

It would be a nice move to place Paul @ TE in some situations to form mismatches.

I'd rather have a TE at 240-260 if he's going to block LBs or DEs instead of being at 220 lbs.

Niles Paul would be a Aaron Hernandez type TE. Short and fast. Although I do believe Paul is way faster with better blocking ability. Both 6'1 but Niles Paul only weights 225 and would have to gain about 20 more pounds to catch up with Hernandez.

Yes, I understand that. What if Kyle Shanahan calls a play where the offense is running a stretch the play away from Paul who is lined up at TE? Let's say he's blocking an OLB on the play. On the very next play Paul is lined up at TE again and is able to beat the OLB deep on play action where there's no safety help whatsoever and ends up catching a 69 yard TD pass from RG3?

That would be a great play call that was used off a play action pass that running the ball set up. I'd rather see TEs who are 240-270 pounds also. But if Paul is used this way, it would make defenses respect Paul and make them accountable for him when he's lined up as a TE.

I think this makes sense , if Paul can play WR and TE in certian packages it would give us some flexibility with playcalling .

I think this is a super tall order for Niles Paul to play TE. He must bulk up. If he pulls this off, ultimate beast move.

ya know....I like Niles Paul as a TE, never thought of that...its probably the only way to get him in the passing game....he is probably our 6th receiver at best...now he is our 3rd TE unless we end up doing something crazy like trading Cooley...
I think it is good for Niles Paul and it is good TE insurance in case someone decides to start smoking weed again.
