When you play with 2's & 3's, you play like 2' & 3's. When you play with the 1's you play like the 1's. That's AH's statement to the coach. |

The 4th pre season game is just unwatchable. But I turned it on in the 4th q and Al was still in there and I just started laughing. Then when I saw him loafing like he always does and have Theismann call him out I just had to turn back to USC Hawaii. |

I agree. He's just looked life less out there. Glad to see pre season is over with cause it's just too long. Hopefully Big Al will get it together now that it's Dalls week. |
Re: Skins vs. Cards, Pre-Season week 4 Gameday thread
You know I under stand AH has brought this on himself but to have him playing in the 4th qtr of this game was pretty stupid. AH at 3/4 speed is better then 90% in the NFL and it almost seems that Sh. was trying to embarrass him. He also said that AH might not play against Dallas and might not even be on the roster for the game.

I think the whole AH not playing next week is a rumor started by JLC. He will play, it'd be idiotic of MS to not play him next week. In the end, AH playing the whole game is not that bad. He's shown he can play an entire game and he looked more discipline with his gap assignments (and not just going after the QB). I only had a problem when he was playing in garbage time, but in the end nothing happened to him. |

I'd like to see Shanahan concentrate more on finding positive ways to motivate the player as opposed to the displayed method of agitation, alienation and humiliation. There's no winners in that type of approach. |

I think last night was AH's final test. Get through an entire game, and not bitch about it afterwards. Mission seems to have been accomplished. Fair or not, the guy DID miss a lot of offseason work. I think there was more to this than the coaches just trying to punish him.

Re: Skins vs. Cards, Pre-Season week 4 Gameday thread
DL Albert Haynesworth: Haynesworth isn’t on the bubble—the Redskins’ defense needs him—but he took another step forward tonight. He played 49 of 55 snaps, unofficially, which is a higher percentage that he played overall last season. Even though it was shocking to see a player with his resume on the field in the fourth quarter of the preseason finale, Haynesworth continued to give quality effort on plays. He made three of his four tackles in the fourth quarter and often (by his standard, anyway) displayed his power against guys he should dominate. He probably wasn’t happy about having to play so much in this game, but he helped himself by not commenting to reporters afterward.

The America's Game clip from the Bronco's 2nd SB shows a lot of positive motivation techniques, and I am sure he is using a lot now. AH simply got on the wrong side of the stick, and now I am guessing, at least for the beginning of the season he is gonna see more and more positives. I also don't think you can't use positive motivation on an entitled person, because they see themselves as deserving of any positive relief or praise you give them. |

I do know that all players are not motivated the same way and you cannot always use a collective approach when attempting to do so. Some players have to be treated a little different sometimes in order to get the maximum out of them. It' the coaches responsibility to know how to accomplish that. To continue to methodically infuriate an already infuriated player is not the best method of getting the player to play to his maximum potential. There are better methods IMO that if utilized could bring about a better, or more positive outcome. |

Ok. Mike Shanahan never said AH was going to miss the opener against the Dallas Cowboys. JLC stated he spoke to "someone" in the organization that said that AH might not play week one. Now I have stated this in another thread, and to be honest I do not know why anyone would believe that our best Dlineman will miss our biggest home game of the year. And Coach Mike's Redskins debut. Coach wants to win this game as he does the other 15 regualr season games. There is NOW WAY (unless he loses a limb between now and then) AH is not lining up at RE to start the Sunday Night game against Dallas. Especially now that he went out and played the enitrely most meaningless game of the year from start to finish. AH, DM will both start come the 12th of September and will dominate. Heard it hear first, don't believe anything you read or hear. These two stars will be there against the Girls. |
Re: Skins vs. Cards, Pre-Season week 4 Gameday thread
I don't know, I think if a player plays best angry, than infuriating him, and pointing him at the opposite team would be a good idea.
On the other hand Shanahan hasn't had a lot of success converting an infuriated player into a valued team player, so maybe AH just has to be written off. Only time will tell |

Only time will tell[/quote] Certainly Shanahan knows by now AH is a disgruntled, malcontent. A nonconformist who hasn't been willing on his own, to buy-in [so to speak] and become a team player for the betterment of everyone concerned. Now, the number one question on Shanahan's mind should be: How do I go about properly inspiring a player with unlimited potential to perform to that potential. There's nothing wrong with a coach taking a softer stand sometime if in so doing he can achieve his desired result. There are different ways to motivate and inspire [depending on the individual] the wise and successful coaches know what buttons to push and when to push them to accompish their intended goals. This fire could have been extinguished long ago. |
