Re: Official Redskins Free Agency Thread 2013 Part II
Nonsense. Urlacher isn't the QB of that defense and can't hold a candle to Fletcher today.
If we're serious about being a competitive team in 2013 Fletcher has to be on the roster/field.
Glad he's back cause we need him, but they need to get Robinson some reps in the worst way. I would take Fletch out on obvious passing downs and let Robinson start to get his feet wet. |
Re: Official Redskins Free Agency Thread 2013 Part II
Aside from the first 2 games, Fred was a beast before he got hurt. He wasn't making many plays down the field or in the redzone but he was a first down machine for us. True, without having Garcon on the field it was hard to truly see what impact he could have being matched up only on a LB but the potential is unreal.
Think about it from a defensive coordinator standpoint.. You have to account for a 1,600 yard back in Morris, a potential game breaking WR in Garcon, chain movers in Morgan and Hankerson AND a big, fast TE in Davis.. Oh, BTW there's that QB with 67% accuracy, a cannon for an arm who just still may run faster than most of the players on your defense.. I'm lovin it.
It looks great on paper....plus don't forget about Robinson. I'd like to see him take the next step and become more of a complete wr. |
Re: Official Redskins Free Agency Thread 2013 Part II
The only problem with Fletcher is he's a short term solution. Maybe we should get an ILB in the draft, he could spend this year learning from Fletcher.
We can easily make over 40MM in cap room next year. Thats enough to sign quite a few "long term solutions." I'm fine with rolling with a couple old guys this year, so long as they still perform and we can afford them. |
Re: Official Redskins Free Agency Thread 2013 Part II
How can loosing 30 some million in salery be a blessing. Our Front office changed and our stupid spending had stopped at that time. Think what we could have done with that cap space.
I know the current FO is a LOT different than the Cerrato era but they are susceptible to the temptation to over spend on free agents as well. IE, how much did josh Morgan get paid last year? I would rather not have the penalty myself but I also admit this off season has been a bit of a refreshing change. |
Re: Official Redskins Free Agency Thread 2013 Part II
I think moreso praise should be given in tons to the FO. They showed the restraint regardless of the penalty. We could have done a lot of upfront restructuring and extending of contracts at the start of FA that would have simply kept pushing the penalty forward, They made hard decisions and stuck with a general philosophy that looks at more than just this year.
good job skins
I completely agree. They deserve a lot of kudos for soaking it up now and not pushing the problem into the future. I think it is great watching the Cowboys make the mistakes we have made in the past. I predict that team will be a train wreck in about 2-3 years. |

I'm fine with it to, I was just saying. But yeah, next year we'll be able to sign some quality free agents, not these mid tier guys we're trying to squeeze value out of. By the way, how do you come up with the 40MM number? I'm not contesting, but that seems like quite a bit of room. |
No, it wasn't a blessing in disguise. It hurt us. It probably cost us a chance at signing Vincent Jackson last season and a chance at signing a top-notch RT to help protect RGIII this season.
I think that the Skins are a well-managed team now. And I believe that the Skins executives would have made wise and prudent decisions if we had not been penalized by the NFL.
I aspecially agree with the bolded statement |

Id venture to say that they already are a train-wreck. YOUR 2013 DALLAS COWBOYS!!!!!! A severely overpaid old QB that ALWAYS folds under pressure, a WR that smacks his mother into next week, a ridiculously porous OLine, a uber hands on owner that doesn't know football guys all too well, substance abuse run amuck, a young star that loves his DUI's, a young underacheiving and now over-rated head coach who is a pawn of said owner, and an aging DWare that is a shell of his former self. Not to mention their dumbass fans. |
Re: Official Redskins Free Agency Thread 2013 Part II
As far as Urlacher and Fletcher talk. Let me make this as simple as possible for you. Fletcher has yet to miss a game. Urlacher misses many games every year now.
He's missed games in 3 out of the 14 years he's been in the league. Now he's misses games every year now? Brian Urlacher Stats - ESPN
Exactly. Fletcher is playing out of his mind and Urlacher is a shadow of his former self.
Have you all lost your mind? Did you miss this? http://www.thewarpath.net/redskins-locker-room/52206-fo-best-worst-run-stop-rates.html Brian Urlacher was high on the list for being one of the best run stoppers. Fletcher on the other hand was near the bottom. The guy is a great leader, but he's a huge liability now. Guess what, it's not getting any better. |
Re: Official Redskins Free Agency Thread 2013 Part II
At least he's likely to retire after this season.
|
Re: Official Redskins Free Agency Thread 2013 Part II
I'm pretty positive that I just read how urlacher was, statistically, the worst player on their defense last year. Bleacher report I think.

Bleacher report? By that measure, he was likely statistically the best player on their defensive squad. |
Re: Official Redskins Free Agency Thread 2013 Part II
Signing urlacher would be something vinny would do. Probably give him a 30 million dollar contract too. I think the next linebacker to play for the skins will be drafted and developed by the skins, at least they will do that if they are smart. Fletcher does need to be phased out and replaced though. Sad reality of the NFL.

Not sure I was championing for Urlacher's signing, more of pointing out that if Chicago wouldn't even keep their future HoFer for 3 mil, than why the hell are we keeping Fletch for over 5+ mil? Urlacher statistically rated better than Fletcher did last season. I would rather have Urlacher at 2.5 mil than Fletcher at 5.9 mil.
Those 3 years he's missed games were in the past 3 years.
Uhh....wut? Not sure you quite understand, so let me put it another way. Urlacher missed games in only 3 years of his 14 year career. Those 3 years were 2004, 2009, 2012. Not sue how those 3 years were in the past 3 years. Did you not look at the link to his stat page? Now, your claim is he misses games every year isn't just far fetched, it's ridiculous. |
