Re: What Shows Are You Watching?
My wife started watching Scandal and I have to say I am 100% addicted. We got through both seasons in like 5 days. LOTS of binging.
Exactly what came to my mind during that scene. Cuaron has to be proud of Fukunaga's vision. The blocking, itself, must have been a chore to execute.
Pretty cool article on some of the references used in True Detective. The One Literary Reference You Must Know to Appreciate True Detective |
Re: What Shows Are You Watching?
inside number nine (twilight zonish)
sirens (okay comedy) black sails (great!) musketeers is pretty forgettable and vikings is back. |
Re: What Shows Are You Watching?
^ Vikings is great. Helps fill the Sons of Anarchy void for now.
|
Re: What Shows Are You Watching?
oh yeah, chicago pd is pretty good, for shield/wire/homicide types.
smoke is okay (bbc firehouse drama). there's a dusk till dawn series out now, only caught the first episode. so far, kinda average. also, aussie tv did a fat tony and co. series, it's pretty good. it's about the aussie mob, following the real events. |
Re: What Shows Are You Watching?
All hail King Ragnar. What did you guys think of season 2 of Vikings? I read that in season 3 they're going to be raiding Paris, that should definitely not suck.

Re: What Shows Are You Watching?
Fargo has been pretty solid so far.
Fargo has been pretty solid so far.
The opening scene in this week's episode blew my mind! I really like the miniseries format because I feel like it frees the writers up to take the story wherever they want.

Re: What Shows Are You Watching?
Started the Homeland series this week. Not bad, Claire Danes is an amazing actress.

Great show. Look on youtube for the SNL skit on homeland. It is hysterical. |

Season two was amazing and totally didn't see the finale going down that way. I've done my best not to look into the historical stuff involving the characters so I can be surprised and thus far haven't been disappointed. Also I've seen some jacked up shit through my years of watching various shows, but I swear I have never seen nor heard of anything like the "Blood Eagle." And here I was thinking being drawn and quartered would be the worst death/torture from medieval times. |
Re: What Shows Are You Watching?
Should I be watching orange is the new black? People at work said not bad
I agree they are all hooked together but how are they fake , these guys really do that stuff .
I believe most of it is staged. Before they came to be linked all together I saw different characters from 1 show appearing on another pretending they didnt know each other when they did.I'm sure a lot of them know their stuff, but its impossible to know all the shit they do.I'm sure they know what the customer is bringing in and learn everything about it before going on the air. American Pickers is FAKE! - The West Coast Truth
Ofcourse it is pre-scripted. Same as pawn stars. Do you know how much time and money would be wasted if they just filmed all day and than edited together the good parts. However it is real in the way that somebody is walking in with an Elvis autograph at some point, or the pickers do find an antique harley in some barn. So it is still cool to watch, but yes they definitely script all the jokes, and finds or deals out. |
Re: What Shows Are You Watching?
I went on a fishing trip down in OBX, and apparently they were filming a, "wicked tuna south". Was talking to some of the fishermen out there- and they were telling me the whole thing is very scripted.
Some scenes they hooked fishing lines to cinder blocks and dropped em off to simulate a fish on the line. Pretty weak. |

You have to apply to be on the show and tell them what you have, they are not actually freestyling around the country like they want you to believe.I havent seen it lately, but in the first seasons the camera angle would be inside the peoples house watching them pull up and everybody acts like theyre surprised to see them! As far as your first point,I understand that, but I dont believe they drive around at all looking for stuff, its all staged. |

Re: What Shows Are You Watching?
drunk history is pretty good. some skits are funny as hell, others kinda miss the mark.
they have good comedy actors come in and play the depiction - people like charlie day, patton, knokville etc the baltimore one was kinda disappointing. |

Re: What Shows Are You Watching?
I'm really enjoying Manhattan on WGN. It's a WWII drama series about the scientists behind the creation of the bomb. Very well done, but I'd recommend starting from the beginning since the plot is pretty interwoven and deep. I heard about it because I went to HS with one of the writers/producers.

Re: What Shows Are You Watching?
Anybody caught any "Married at First Sight"? It's one the FYI network, actually had no clue that existed before this show. These 3 couples all agree to get legally married without ever meeting each other.
They are supposed to stay married for 5 weeks, then decide if they will get divorced or stay together. They get married, honeymoon and move in together all in one week. So far seems pretty legit as far as not scripted. I think me and the wife are 3-4 episodes in. http://m.huffpost.com/us/entry/5568131 |
Re: What Shows Are You Watching?
me and my lady watched a few episodes. cool concept and I liked that it seemed like real dialogue of couples trying to work on their relationship and not scripted as much to increase the drama. for people in a relationship that work hard to keep the relationship positive and fresh and loving, i found it to be rewarding bc you dont really see behind the curtains of other couples and their honest and real problems
watching American Horor Stories season 3 in new orleans. 4 episodes in. i like it. dont love it but i like it. |

Yeah I've been watching it since the start. It definitely has its' hilarious moments but I feel the main plot is a little weak. It needs something else, but I'm not sure what it is. Either way I'm gonna keep watching. |
Re: What Shows Are You Watching?
Anyone catch the first episode of Gotham? I recorded it but haven't watched it yet.
Anyone catch the first episode of Gotham? I recorded it but haven't watched it yet.
That's funny, I literally clicked on this thread to say the exact same thing.
The season just ended but I was very surprised how much I liked the new FXX show "You're The Worst". I guess I would describe it as a romantic comedy in the It's Always Sunny vein. I had never heard the word 'clit' used on TV until the season finale. |
Re: What Shows Are You Watching?
Anybody checking out the southpark Redskins episode? Meh...I expected a little more. The goodell-bot was pretty funny

I was not a fan at all. I thought the acting was terrible and the overall look of the show was super cheap, despite the fact that it was intentional done and likely expensive. |

It felt really muddled. They tried to jam too many ideas in there, which made it difficult to have a cohesive narrative. Probably one of their weaker episodes. I do find it impressive that they cut out RG3 and replaced him with Cousins, but given how quickly they produce the show, I'm not surprised. |

My buddy and I were laughing about the promo. Before catwoman before batman before joker......etc Then we added before anything exciting happened... Seriously though you take out all the super hero's and villains in Gotham what you got? Cleveland? |

This pretty much sums up my feelings. It was pretty hit-or-miss. |
Re: What Shows Are You Watching?
watched the pilot for "youre the worst". like mlm said, its kinda like sunny. he main characters are self absorbed, socially clueless horrible people. it was good, i will continue watching and but it doesnt have me hooked from the get go.
watched 10 mins of gotham during halftime, the lady wants to put it in our rotation but i dont see me liking it. |
Re: What Shows Are You Watching?
I've been going through a documentaries on Ancient Rome phase so I decided to watch the HBO show Rome on Amazon Prime Instant. I loved it the first time when I saw it back in 2007, but now that I have a better understanding of the historical figures and even little stuff like the battle tactics used by the military the show is even more interesting.
Closest experience I can liken it to is watching the Sopranos again while being able to keep up with the names and roles of all the side characters (still impossible even after all these years). |
Re: What Shows Are You Watching?
Anyone else planning on watching the new season of Alpha House with John Goodman and (Occasional appearances of) Bill Murray?
