Paul also played some TE late last season when Paulsen was the no. 1 guy.

And it's not like Niles Paul would ever play in 2 WR, 1 TE, 2 RB personnel. So try not to think of him as the prototype in-line TE. It's just an interior receiver.

Well I just feel like we already have two pass catching TEs. I would say that you would want a blocking TE, but then again, maybe the Shanahans may not want or need one. BTW, Paul is 220ish.

Regardless, it seems like this is an opportunity for Paul to stay with the team, and who is not to say that he cant or wont shed the weight. I mean Zo used to be an offensive/defensive lineman, and he has worked his way to an ILB.

I've been reading that Kendall Wright is dropping down many draft boards to a third round grade. If he's there when we pick, should we pull the trigger and keep he and RGIII's chemistry going in the pros?

I would think yes because Santana Moss might be in his final season with the Redskins. Kendall Wright is a first round talent. But the Redskins have to draft for need. With the additions at WRs in free agency, wide receiver isn't a need. Unless Bruce Allen and Mike Shanahan feel that a RT could be found in the 4th or 5th round with Wright available when they pick in the 3rd round, is the only way they'll draft Wright. But Wright will not fall that far down to the 3rd round.

One of the things that Shanny loves about NP is his blocking. (to go along with his work ethic)


Also, according to a recent tweet by Niles Paul, he's currently at 234.

I was surprised Hank dropped that far last year, and inevitably, every year, a talented player drops way further than projected. Maybe it will be Wright all the way to the third.

I'm torn about taking him if he drops that far. I'd really like to find Jammal Brown's replacement early. It is tempting given their chemistry though. Has there been a good college QB/WR combo that's taken their act to the pros, and it worked?

Pretty much zero chance Kendall Wright is there at pick 69 but if he is that card will be turned in faster than the RG3 pick.

I like match up problem this presents to defenses.. He will block your corner, he will burn your LB. He will occupy your safety. It would take a Gamecock spur type athlete to match him and they are rare.

With Gaffney's departure, I expect one of Banks or Austin to make the team as a returner. I'm not sure Aldrick Robinson is 53-man roster material...could be on PS again. I doubt we'll roster Paul as a TE with Cooley, Davis and Paulsen already in the position, we won't keep 4 TEs.

I hope Paul playing TE doesn't spell the end for Cooley. Will be hard to keep 4 TEs on the roster, unless they don't count Paul as a TE per se.

Paul will likely become the best blocking TE on the roster. Don't worry about his size, remember that all the O linemen are on the small side & the ZB scheme calls for a lot of stretch & open field blocking. He will have trouble adjusting to pass pro against bigger & equally quick OLB/DEs but he'll learn.

Yeah thats the general response for a guy who is so well liked. Two of the last 3 years he has had injury riddled seasons. We know he's role has been reduced and Fred has emerged as a better playmaker at this time. Like to see him back and still think he can contribute. But if he is gonna be hurt again this year, its time to let him go.

Cooley is a stud in the right system but I'm not sure how well he fits w/ what Mike/Kyle do. A speedier TE probably gets the nod. It's a bummer to be sure because one of Cooley's greatest strengths was finding the open space...

He fit just fine in this offense when he was healthy in 2010.

If his knee is right I think he'll have a significant role.

If Cooley stays healthy, he'll be productive for many more years.

If he misses most of this season though, we have to move on...a Landry-like situation where a great player becomes an expensive liability because he can't get on the field.

A healthy Cooley with Davis and now Paul in the position is scary for defenses, especially with the WRs we've added and RGIII throwing to them...plus a more than competent run game. We could be a very explosive offense.

1991 all over again? Maybe not but we'll see.

With our limited picks this year, we should pass on a WR pick. We have Aldrick Robinsion and Banks to duke it out for returner, with Austin and Paul also capable, but I think Niles is out of that role now.

Of course, that's all moot if Shanallenhan pulls off another wizardry job like last year and turns 5 picks into a dozen.
