He said Kirk didn't respond well to the pressure of this game, he didn't want to say it was a choke, just that Kirk was too scared of making a mistake and missed a lot. You could be correct. One of the other things they mentioned on the Int to Harris. He was shocked that KC was even was looking at that side of the field, since Harris was by himself on the 3 by 1 formation. I found that the most interesting, cause it was obviously an easy td had KC just looked where he was suppose to look. Anyhow, not a good way for KC to end the season. I still 100% believe he's our starter and should be paid in the low 20 million dollar range, or just south of Luck money. |

But seriously...and this is for everyone having second thoughts or straight up "hatting" on Cousins: What is our other option at QB? Hoyer? Cutler, Kaperneck? Terrible draft QB class folks... Do we understand also that if that Cousins hit the free agent market that possibly up to 1/3 of the league would inquire and possibly offer Cousins a contract? Also Cousins would be head & tails the free agent in the class...he would be on a tier by himself...seriously. Top Free Agents: 1. Cousins 2. Short DT Carolina 3. Eric Berry FS KC 4. Hands-Free JPP DE Vigiants
Hoyer is a code red trap baller. Just sayin.... |

Do you mean the Dallas game where he couldn't get the ball to the wr's downfield? Did you also forget about the other games he played in that year? Then he got hurt. Bottom line is if McCoy was better than KC he'd be on the field. The coaches.. Gruden, McVay, Cavanaugh see them up close everyday. They know more than we do. If McCoy was a starting caliber QB another team would have signed him. He's a great backup QB, not a 16 game starter. And what he did in college doesn't mean anything at this point.
Did you read my other post about Mccoy? I knew someone would jump in and twist this,I never said McCoy should be the starter, read the other post before commenting please |

Time to watch Nate Sudfeld highlights and get amped up and psyched out.
I'm secretly hoping Cousins has a Panthers/Norman type situation and SM let's him go. Why? Because he is going to get way more than he's worth from us or some other team. I rather have it be another team. And no, I don't have the answer for who starts, but I don't want to over pay out of fear. We can find someone. |

I thought it was to build a team that can win a Super Bowl. No team can win a Super Bowl these days with a run-of-the-mill QB. In fact, it has rarely been done before now. Where are you going to get this cheap QB who can lead us to the Super Bowl? - There are 22 NFL QB's who are being paid an average of $17M or more per season under their current contracts. - There are 15 NFL QB's who are guaranteed $65M or more under their current contracts. - The Franchise Tag for QB's in 2017 will be $24M. That's the baseline for Kirk Cousins, one year at $24M fully guaranteed. As of today, there are 19 NFL QB's who are each contractually guaranteed more than $24M. In the NFL, you need a good QB to win. We have a good QB. Good QB's are hard to find and they are paid extremely well, as shown above; therefore, in order to win we must pay our good QB extremely well. It's so simple that some of us think there must be more to it than that. There isn't. The alternative? Hope for a lightning strike on FedEx Field with a good and cheap QB emerging from the smoking turf. |

No one in this thread can provide an alternative to Cousins.
Not one that can take us to the playoffs. |

There are always going to be more qbs that come along. We got Cousins in the 4th round. Everyone acts like Cousins is the last good qb that will ever be found in nfl history and we have to keep him forever no matter the cost or how bad he has continuously choked in big games to this point. |

Yea, he has good stats, but what exactly have we waited 20 years for, a qb that can get us to 8-7-1? I know there are other factors to that record like our sieve defense, but it's not exactly like he is dominating the nfl. I just don't think he's worth more than 20 million a year and it sounds like he's gonna want a lot more than that. No thanks. That's just my opinion though. I know people will disagree and there are a lot of good points to be made from your side. If he gets 25 million a year and takes the next leap, I'll gladly eat crow at that time. |

This is a good point. However, Dak has the best running game to lean on with the best o-line. If a rookie were to walk into our type of offense he'd struggle. |

Good teams have good players and he was part of it and played well. Mark Sanchez/Kellen Moore wasn't going 13-3 with that team. He deserves a lot of credit. |
Re: Kirk Cousins 24/7 thread
If anyone knows what it's like to suffer through bad QB play it should be us.
Yet some seem willing to walk away from a guy who's put up some pretty big numbers the last 2 seasons and is just entering his prime. Very strange. |

We talked about this previously. I personally only think he's worth 20 million, I could grit my teethe and bear 22 million, but anymore than that he's being drastically over paid based on his performance. At what price do you think we shouldn't sign him? Or do you think even if it's 25 million, you'd still say sign him? |
Re: Kirk Cousins 24/7 thread
My solution's the best in my opinion- Dan Snyder, Bruce Allen and whoever currently has something against Cousins- need to check their ego and just pay the man to a long term deal.
It's what's best for the Redskins. And in the meantime, if you want you can actively pursue a replacement. Companies in other industries do this all the time. It's smart business. |
Re: Kirk Cousins 24/7 thread
And if you find a replacement, trade him. If you don't, keep him.
|
Re: Kirk Cousins 24/7 thread
At the end of the day, I want our team to win. If that means me being wrong about Cousins and we do end up paying him a kings ransom and it works out, so be it. I don't envy SM on this decision.
|
Kirk Cousins 24/7 thread
There are some issues to this, but it's better than not having a good qb. The main one would be- he'll hamstring the Redskins' salary cap, especially early on.
Because I think everyone can agree that he's currently not elite, but he'll be paid like one. Salary cap percentage and inflation be damned. |

Ultimately though how the deal is structured and what the guaranteed money is the only thing that matters. They can make the deal look as pretty as they want on paper. |
Re: Kirk Cousins 24/7 thread
So now I can separate 1) the decision with what to do with Cousins versus with what I think 2) how he's handling his contract and how he's played.

Oh, so your strategy is to wait for lightning to strike, which is what happened with Dak. Other than that, you have no discernible plan for the QB position other than to hope that fate takes a hand. How long are you willing to wait to be a Super Bowl contender? Seriously, how long are you willing to wait? In your opinion, are we dealing with a window of opportunity here before we lose players like Williams, Norman, and Kerrigan or not? Are you aware that Kirk Cousins already holds numerous Redskins franchise records even though he has only been the starter for two seasons? Don't you think he can continue to improve? In truth, the Redskins made the decision to pay more money for Kirk than they needed to by delaying their decision sign him to a long-term contract last season. They could have had a good deal for the next few seasons but they wanted more proof. NFL QB salaries go up significantly each and every season, so now they'll have to pay more if they still want him. I think the Redskins need Kirk. I also think they know it but still, somehow, they think they're in the driver's seat in the negotiations with Kirk and his agent. Up to now, Kirk and his agent have been nice. I'll tell you how Kirk can get the long term deal he wants from some team. He just simply needs to inform the Redskins that if he cannot come to an agreement with them on a long term deal, then he will not sign a Franchise Tag agreement with them and he will instead sit out the 2017 season. Then we'll all find out Kirk's real NFL value. |
Re: Kirk Cousins 24/7 thread
He's played poorly in key games when he needed to step up. And he's played scared. Probably because of his contract. I liked him much more towards the end of last year when he played with swagger and a sense of fearlessness. I thought he was going to build on that but instead when you thought he was going to take off- he'd regress.

We know that. So what's your verdict, sign him or cut him? |
Re: Kirk Cousins 24/7 thread
It's not the dollar number we need to be concerned with, it's the percentage-of-the-salary-cap number that matters. As long as it doesn't screw with our ability to build the rest of the team it will be fine, whether that # is 22 mil, 24 mil, etc.
|
Re: Kirk Cousins 24/7 thread
I never really felt like he addressed what happened with the Giants game and didn't feel like it was important to him because he didn't really address it. It was on to HIS future and HIS contract. No real reflection of the Redskins team or season.

I don't think you just cut him a check for any amount he wants. I don't want the team to be held hostage by Cousins. There is no guarantee he will take us to the Super Bowl either. I don't fear having to draft/trade/sign another QB if we can use the extra money to add players at other positions while we figure out who is our best choice. With or without Kirk I don't see us winning it all next year. I think we're at least 2 years away. So that gives us 2 years to find a replacement if we can't agree to contract with Kirk. |
