Which games did you watch in which Phillips was "marginal at best"? I also don't understand who here is saying that every PSU player is a future nfl star. You've got two fans in this discussion thread that have said no such thing. Blanket statements aren't likely to get you very far. That'd be like me saying Redskins fans make conclusory statements without offering any support for such statements simply because you do. |

5-11+ and 190lbs? What's wrong with that size? Do I really need to list all of the pro bowl caliber CBs who are that same size or smaller? More less the CBs that are having very solid careers in the NFL with less size? I'm not saying Phillips will be a pro bowler, because I don't believe he ever will, but to say that he can't cut it in the NFL because he's too small at 5-11/190 just doesn't make sense. We're not talking about taking him in the first round with a top 15 selection.......we're talking about the potential of adding him as a #3/nickel CB with a late 2nd round pick. |

Sure, if one is available. Personally, however, I don't think any of the CBs that will be available that late in the second round have the ability to be immediate #2 CBs. I do think that Phillips has the upside to be a #2 in a couple years, as well as a number of other CBs. My point was only that we need a #3 CB right now, and that we can get that #3 CB in the draft (whether it be Phillips or someone else). Hopefully they can grow into a #2 in a few years, but for right now, we can't expect to find a solid #2 that late in the draft. Getting Fred Smoot when we did was the exception to the rule (and even he wasn't a late 2nd rounder). |
Re: 2 possible db's in draft
i don't think phillips could really ever be a good #2. maybe a decent one...

I guess only time will tell. |
Re: 2 possible db's in draft
the 4.6 speed is what bothers me,maybe he can play safety

Re: 2 possible db's in draft
how about looking into a free agent corner?

Re: 2 possible db's in draft
We should take Demeco Ryans or Ernie Simms with our second round pick. What number is it anyways?

53 overall, and i think both of those guys will be long gone by then. simms may be the 2nd or 3rd LB off (before pick 20 in the first) and ryans probably goes late first or early second, at least 8-10 picks before our turn. |
Re: 2 possible db's in draft
Ok, what about Bobby Carpentar, or the guy from UTEP or the guy from Miami (williamson???)

carpenter is a 1st rounder too. leon williams is a 5th rounder, and McIntosh is a 3rd rouner (both from miami). thomas howard would be the best pick if he's still there and the 6 above him are gone (which they should be). D'Qwell might fall, but i'm not sure he'll fall far enough for us to take him. |
