And, um, are we now saying why wasn't Todd Collins our starting QB?
Finally!

I have been saying this for sooo long! I knew TAFKAS would agree with me that Collins should be our starter. I think Ramsey got screwed too.

Don't forget Justin Skaggs. They'd have named the Pro Bowl after him if he'd only gotten a fair shot.

Not necessarily the case. The team that usually wins the Super Bowl has a well-balanced offense with a strong running game. So, I can't really agree that it is a passing league at all. Now, arena football, now that is what I consider a passing league. The NFL is not.

I hear a voice in the wilderness...

"Be patient Redskins nation, Al Saunders has never made a big impact on any offense in his first season."

I love statements like this, especially when the team with the best record in the league plays Martyball and boasts the league MVP, a running back, Ladainian Tomlinson.
Gibbs acts like JC is a frickin little baby. He needs to stop coddleling him. Sending 3 guys out on 3rd down is outdated. JC STARTED AT AURBURN FOR 4 YEARS. He can handle it. In certain situations you can send out 5 guys. Like on 1st down? Not all the time but some of the time you have to do it. This is why we don't score enough TD's becasue our offense is too conservative. Or how about running a hurry up offense next year some of the time? I watched Pennington do it and he can't even throw the ball. We need to diversify the offense.
What makes you think JC can handle reading a defense that quickly? Did he learn that at Auburn? Did Alabama or Florida use a Jim Johnson blitz disguise? Did Tennessee or Vanderbilt use a 3-4 like Dallas?

Get the F out of here with the notion that Campbell's four years at Auburn have any bearing on his readiness here at this level. Are you serious with that? College ball?

It takes QBs a while to learn. Here's a little food for thought: over our first 10 games, with Saunders free to run his offense how he saw fit, we scored 18 points per game. With Gibbs reasserting himself over the last six games, calling a more conservative gameplan with more power running and max protection, we scored 21 points per game. It's really hard to argue we're better off with Saunders' method, especially with our offensive personnel.

Not sure it matters though whether he started 4 years at Auburn or 4 years at Middle Tennessee State, expierience is expierience. (Of course, one would expect that the "MTSU Campbell" would have better numbers than the Auburn Campbell)

But I agree that a statement that starting 4 years at the college level makes you prepared to handle blitz packages at the NFL level right away is pretty retarded. If that was the case, there wouldn't be a learning curve.

They were originated in the outskirts of Dallas, Tx in a city called Irving.

Yes I'm serious. It would be different if he played at Air Force. But he ran pro style offenses, and that makes him more ready for the NFL game. So you mean to tell me that sending out three guys on let's say 30 pass plays a game is a good NFL passing game plan??? If you think that's going to get it done in today's NFL then send me some of the Kool Aid your drinking. And don't give me that 3 point difference BS. It was a struggle to get 200 yards passing. The power running game is nice but you can't try and run everybody over all the time. The bottom line is we need more out of the passing game. I hope Charles Johnson is sitting there at the 6th pick.

SD does not play Martyball at all. Rivers threw for 3,400 yards and 22 TD's. SD is a well balanced offensive team.

Re: Al Saunders

Exactly and that is my point. Marty changed his offensive philosophy by letting Cameron call the plays who also uses an offense like Saunders. Sometimes coaches have to realize when thay have been away from the game a long time the game does change. We need a change to a much better offensive gameplan.

Not to sound like an expert but handleling the blitz is not as complicated as you think it is. These guys are pros and this is what they do all day long. I use to play HS football many years ago and the reads are not as complex. Even in the pros. Ther reads are actually tougher when teams don't blitz because you can have more defenders in coverage. The biggest difference that I see in the pros is you have guys constantly moving around to confuse the lineman. But it leaves you in man coverage most of the time and these reads are easy for the QB. It comes down to whether or not you can pick it up and your WR's can beat man coverage. Or it comes down to whether or not your QB can get rid of the ball, step into the throw and make an accurate throw under serious pressure. Plus take a hit. Eli really struggles with this, he never hangs in there and steps into his throws. He seems to get scared and throws the ball falling away.

One thing I don't see the Skins do ( when teams blitz us) is get the backs out on wheel routes ( sideline routes ) and seam routes (down the middle) as these will kill blites if you can get the time to get the ball off. Tomlinson runs this against blitzes and so does Westbrook. This works becasue you will always have a linebacker trying to cover a back. Pittman on TB runs these routes very well, and Gruden does a great job of designing these types of plays. Our backs only run out in the flats which makes no sense. Portis even mentioned this on his radio show. Zone blitzes can be alot more complicated
