ESPN REPORT'S THE DEAL AS:
Washington Redskins: Cornerback Fred Smoot really didn't want to leave the Redskins. Now, he feels as though he's come back home.

Smoot signed a five-year deal worth $25 million Saturday with the Redskins to return after spending three turbulent seasons with the Minnesota Vikings.

But this move wasn't about money. Smoot went for the money three years ago when he signed a six-year, $34.7 million but Smoot struggled with his play and with some off-the-field problems.

The Vikings cut him last week, but Smoot couldn't wait to make a trip to Washington and try to talk the Redskins into re-signing him, While Smoot's agent, Bus Cook, was negotiating the contract, Smoot was in Daniel Snyder's office trying to speed up the process to try to get the deal done.

Smoot is the second defensive addition for the Redskins, who added linebacker London Fletcher on Friday.

According to the Washington Post Fred Smoot agreed to terms on a contact and it will be annouced at a press conference Sunday; terms of the contact are not known at this time.

They just had Jason Cambell on Comcast Sports at the hockey game in DC. For all the hockey fans Caps vs. Isles. He laughed when asked about the SMOOTSTER being back in the locker room.

He said he wasn't there the first time Smoot was still around, but he's heard from the guys.....HE'S GOT A BIG MOUTH!!!!! But he's lookin foward to it.

He's in for a real treat!

Smoooooooot. He played well as a number two behind Champ in this system. I see no reason why he can't resume his level of play back in DC.

Wow, we are starting to look like the Patriots...

Every Redskin fan should pull for this guy regardless of what happened in Minnesota. I am guessing he could have pulled 35 to 40 million on the open market.

I will be wearing my 70th anniversary Smoot jersey all day tomorrow!!!

I am excited to have Smoot back and if nothing else it looks like we have a little more depth at CB than we did last year - for now at least. I was wondering if anyone has heard anything on Daniel Graham? I really think that he could help the redskins, great blocker and an underrated reciever. He would look real nice in a skins uniform next year.

By the way Claytons numbers on Smoots contract don't match anyone else's.So just a heads up those numbers might not be right.

i say he buys st's number and ST goes back to 36.

that would be tight, ST doesnt look right in 21, much better in 36.
