Re: With the # 6 selection in the draft, The Washington Redskins select, Gaines Adams
Alright, good catch. That 27 is much closer to league average than it seems though.
1) by losing all those games, we got run on more than an average team 2) teams like the Jets and the Colts were SO bad against the run that it skews the average towards us But the point I'm trying to make is that if it wasn't for our secondary, we would have been much worse against the run. We probably didn't have a top 30 defensive line last year. Our pass defense couldn't have gotten any worse, but our run D certainly could have.
Adams would be a major upgrade over Daniels. If Griffin stays healthy he's solid, Carter came on very strong late. We plug in Golston or Montgomery at DT # 2. Already Have a major MLB upgrade, Washinton outside, and Rocky or Marshall weakside. Rogers, Springs, Smoot fight it out for 2 spots. Taylor SS ????????? Looks like AA is toast, based on Post article. I think we're fine on Defense. It was a record setting bad year in 06' with most of the same personel that was ranked top 10 the year before. They will be hungry to be much better and create more opportunities for victory in 07. |

Old, Injured, and Over-Paid is a fair characterization of our D-Line. It desperately needs attention, and it cannot be completed in one offseason. Of all the various weaknesses this team has, D-Line is the greatest, and efforts should be made in this draft to address that need whether it be at DE or DT.

well, adams could commit to putting on 20 pounds, he has space for it, or carriker could be the choice. i'm more up on okoye though.

You know I really don't care who the player of their choice is as long as he's able to come in and be a starting player on the D-Line with the ability to make an impact. Or D-Line is going to be in complete shambles in a couple years, and if we don't draf some young talent to play there now, we'll eventually be looking to fill those positions with FA's in the future, and we all know what that means. When you have the opportunity to draft a quality player, you take advantage because that same opportunity may not be there next year. |
Re: With the # 6 selection in the draft, The Washington Redskins select, Gaines Adams
DL, LTs, and QBs tend to be the guys that you have to draft, as true impact players there rarely switch teams... and yeah, our line is OLD.

I'd say Okoye is the early favorite based on JLC's skins insider. Okoye sounds like a great guy w/huge upside. i think the fact that he's 19 makes him even more of a value.
I'd bet we'll pick him even if we stay at 6 |

I just don't want to be on my way to the games this fall talking about how much depth we have with no pass-rush, being eaten alive by just about every average QB in the league because we can't mount a rush. |
Re: With the # 6 selection in the draft, The Washington Redskins select, Gaines Adams
In Mayocks evaluation of Adams on NFL Network then you would have seen that Adams lined up on both sides (at least against Florida State) so moving him over to LDE won't be a problem.

To me, while stopping the run is the biggest problem that needs to be addressed, our pitiful pass rush is right behind it. I just feel that a monster defensive tackle who can obliterate the line of scrimmage, collapse the pocket, and wreak havoc on the line will do more to help us in both key aspects of defense (rush the QB, and stop the run). It's harder to get both with just a DE. |
This is like the # 6th thread about young buck, gaines. He is VERY talented. I'm just not so sure we won't end up giving that #6 up for some more draft picks.
They are aweful quite at REDSKIN park???? huuuummmm....
trade our 6 pick to to Arizona for Larry Fitzgearld and jonthan lewis......... it could happen? |

Any combination of players we can assemble to acomplish that feat is fine with me. I agree that DT & DE both need to be adressed, and our entire draft should be dedicated to that end. |

Hi Everyone,
I have been a diehard redskins fan for over 25 yrs. I think to help stop the running game we need to take Alan Branch. This could help the Defense become a top 10 defense this year. |
