I like Chuck's books but they are kind of hard to follow at times.

It's not like his other books because he works in a bunch of his short stories, but they are supposed to be written by the characters in the book itself. There are also a ton of main characters, who all use pseudonyms, so that's hard to keep track of.
Maybe I'll give that one another shot because I don't have anything else to read right now.

I read everything by Richard Laymon, he's a horror writer, like the only author I've gotten into, kinda funny though there's always sex in his books and it's usually graphic, but at least I'm reading ha ha

I read lots of nonfiction lately--mostly popular science type stuff. A very cool book is "Stumbling on Happiness"--it sounds like a self-help title, but it's by a Harvard social psychologist. It's all about how bad we are at predicting what we'll like and dislike in the future. Kind of a "Tipping Point" kind of thing (which I also totally recommend!).

Btw, I am a philosophy professor, and I have trouble understanding BOTH Spinoza and existentialism. I am more into Matrix-type stuff--robots, brains in vats, that sort of thing. What's weird is they pay me to read that stuff. (Beats working for a living! ;) )

AU has a good law school and most recruiters for big firms hit G-town, GW, and AU when they are in the DC area. US News' rankings will give you a good idea of what kind of reputation schools have, even though the ranking system is flawed.

That's pretty much what I thought anyway. Gtown is pretty much at the top of the food chain. I'm not quite that far anyway, but it's in the back of my mind.

If you're looking for schools that do well in the DC market, you should consider UVA Law as well. Excellent school, relaxed atmosphere, and got me a great job.

I didn't read Larry at all for years because, frankly, I know him, or knew him, and bear a grudge. A couple of years ago, however, I put away my dislike and read Cheyenne Moon and the Lonesome Dove with total delight and amazement. That the little creep could come up with those masterpieces blows me away. You guys who never read should grab both of the books quick-- they'll make you readers. They're funny, extremely violent, sad, tragic, heroic. Most of all they seem to give you the old west in all its terrifying complexity rather than it is usually presented.
By the way, I've now read most of his other books and think of all the books only his book on Pretty Boy Floyd comes even close to the above two.

Currently just started Lust in Translation which is an interesting concept. It covers how societies handle cheating all over the world. Interesting topic.

Last few books I've read:

[U]Sweet Thursday[/U] by John Steinbeck
[U]The Global Village[/U] by Marshall McLuhan (not as good as [U]Understanding Media[/U] but it does contain some good bits. I think it was mostly written by a collaborator of his after he died)
[U]Goodbye To All That[/U] by Robert Graves (which was assigned in college circa 1990 and never opened until last month)
