I'm with Spags: long time assistant, first time head coach, in their 40's, unproven but hungry, with some success...

sounds like another guy that worked out well for us. :)

I think it all comes down to expectations...
If we hire Fassel and don't get in the playoffs he may be gone in 2-3 years if that long...

If Spags is hired he will be given a longer tenure to prove what he can do as he will need to get use to being the man.

So do we want turnover again or a fresh start?

Give me Spags over Fassel! We may even start becoming competitive in the NFC East again!

Spagnuolo would be my choice. I don't think it matters that much. As HC jobs go, the Redskins is not exactly the best situation right now- no say over personell and the entire staff already hired. Still, when they go 4-12 next year, somehow I suspect that Snyderatto will not be blaming themselves. It's hard for me to imagine why any thinking person would take this job except for the cash and I don't even think the person they hire will get Spurrier/Gibbs money.

If that's the definition then I guess he is, I just always considered him to be a better coach then Fassel. JaX had a couple teams I thought were Super Bowl caliber and it just didn't work out for whatever reason...Mainly the Titans seemed to have their number. I never felt Fassel had a super bowl caliber team...I didn't even feel that way about his team that made it there.

I guess I'm in the minority that would rather see a proven head coach with a track record who can help mold Zorn and Blache rather than the flavor of the month who's been a DC for all of a year and has no HC experience.

I wouldn't hold the Ravens offense against Fassel. Billick had his hands all over it, and took the fall when they were underachieving in '05. And it's not like that offense has gotten loads better.

Question: Does anybody really believe Fassel is the longterm answer or is he a stopgap coach until the "sexy' hire becomes available? Well if Spags does not produce a winning team then he is not a long term answer. I perfer that we have younger OC and DC that want to become a head coach some day so when our coach steps down we have their replacement. People will say that we had that with GW but if its true that he did not have that 1 mil if not hired then that was not true. I think he was hired as Gibbs pick for DC and not for the future head coaching job.

Spags coached the defense that stopped the most high-powered offense in NFL history - I'd say that looks pretty good on a resume.

There seems to be this logic floating around of young coach = long term answer.

What is long term in this league anyways?

Face it, no matter who takes over he will realistically have about 3 seasons to show that the team is moving forward and making progress. Whoever gets the job has to win regardless of age.

While thats true I think what he did over the year with NY D is a better telling story. They were giving up a ton of points in there first two games but made changes and got the ball rolling on D. This tells me he knows how to find answers to problems and get things fixed.

Not only did they shut down NE but look at the other teams they stifled in the playoffs. Dallas and Green Bay, two of the best offenses in the league this year.

In the interest of being right, Jim Fassel.

Spags needs to prove he can do his job in the New York Media market for longer than one season. Fassel did it for seven.

Spags did good things in the league 3 days ago...Fassel has not done anything good in the league in 7 years.
