Re: JLC: Skins to Pursue CB Florence & WR Hackett; Can't Afford Briggs?
I don't know much about Florence. But, man our luck has got to change at some point with the free agent nickelbacks we sign, doesn't it? (Harris, Wright, Macklin)
I was thinking the same thing. These cornerbacks were all starters on other teams and played well. Then, when they came here they were crap. Well Harris wasn't that bad, but Wright and Macklin were worthless. |
Re: JLC: Skins to Pursue CB Florence & WR Hackett; Can't Afford Briggs?
Not sure ducket maybe. I swear I read in the post that with a 4th round pick from the _______ the reddkins have a full set of draft picks. Ill have to try and find it.

It's not like any of those guys were really good before we got them, they were just servicable. We go after average players and expect big things from them. It's not going to happen. |

Not that bad? Walt Harris went to the Pro Bowl the year after we released him. |

I have seen those posts too...then they are corrected. |
Re: JLC: Skins to Pursue CB Florence & WR Hackett; Can't Afford Briggs?
Yeah, I have been one correcting people about it, but I remember reading this somewhere reputable recently. Maybe I dreamt it, but when I read it it seemed plausible like oh yeah I forgot about that. Anyways, wasn't there some stipulation with Ducket that if he got a certain amount of playing time we got a 3rd rounder this year or if not we got a fourth. I remember something to that effect which made what I read plausible. Well, I cant find what I read so oh well . . .

These were all veteran starters who were just asked to be nickel or dime defensive backs. We weren't looking for the next Shawn Springs |

I meant he wasn't that bad when he was on the Redskins. |

I think we lost our fouth rounder in the Duckett trade, we didn't get one back. |
Re: JLC: Skins to Pursue CB Florence & WR Hackett; Can't Afford Briggs?
Yeah I guess we just didnt resign him, god I wish I could remember what that was about.
Oh wait, maybe it had to do with not being able to resign derrick dockery? |
Re: JLC: Skins to Pursue CB Florence & WR Hackett; Can't Afford Briggs?
We do NOT have a 4th rounder. We gave our 4th rounder up to acquire Duckett and we did NOT get a 4th rounder from anyone else. We have all of our other draft picks.

Didn't say we were looking for another Springs, however, you said:
But, man our luck has got to change at some point with the free agent nickelbacks we sign, doesn't it? (Harris, Wright, Macklin)
all I'm saying is, they were average before we got them, to expect anything otherwise is unrealistic. ps- Florence is nothing extra special either. |

LOL. Well, maybe you're right. But like you say...whatever. :D |
Re: JLC: Skins to Pursue CB Florence & WR Hackett; Can't Afford Briggs?
FWIW, Florence's metrics are very similar to those of Carlos Rogers, and those of Fred Smoot circa Minnesota. He's going to allow 6-7 yards per pass in his direction. That's nickelback quality at best.
He's going to be 29 next year. He's better than, say, Kenny Wright or David Macklin or Mike Rumph, but he's not going to displace a healthy Rogers, an unhealthy Springs, or a prime-of-career Fred Smoot. Basically, Drayton Florence does not lessen the need for Shawn Springs to play CB1 for us. However, he does address a select short term need for us until we can get Rogers back in the lineup. He's no Brian Kelly though :D |
