re: Stuart Schweigert a Redskin
To me it breaks down like this: If Doughty is going to start Landry will be at FS, if Schweigert is going to start Landry will be at SS. Like I said earlier I don't think it matters what safety position Landry is playing at, he's still going to be able to perform as a Pro Bowl caliber player.
I think you nailed it |
re: Stuart Schweigert a Redskin
Honestly I believe he is going to be the starter come opening day. He has the experience and I believe he has the skills. Especially if they are moving Landry back to SS, I think he is the best qualified on our roster to play FS.
Everyone's quick to pencil him in at FS, when he (Schweigert) thinks he's best used at SS. I think Landry played very solidly at the FS spot. But probably gives us the best backup swingman if Landry gets hurt. Fox is on the small side but, I cannot forget how well he played against CAR two seasons ago. He'll find work the day he's let go.
Sean Taylor was one of a kind. |

Scheweigert will be at FS. Landry at SS
Bet on it RIP ST 21 |
Scheweigert will be at FS. Landry at SS
Bet on it RIP ST 21
I am exstatic that we signed this guy, but he will not start. Landry played pro bowl football at FS. Doughty played very smart solid football. Doughty was never out of position, and played great. Moving Landry back to SS will be taking a step backward. If Landry or Doughty gets hurt, then we move Landry to SS or let Schweigert play FS, along with Doughty. Thats how I see it. |
re: Stuart Schweigert a Redskin
Personally I think Schweigert is a huge upgrade over Doughty.
This definetly replaces/ or gives competition for Doughty at SS or FS |
Re: Stuart Schweigert a Redskin
Man, no love for Doughty at all? What did he do wrong last year? I don't mind Stuart being a Redskin, but to me the thought that Doughty's going to just be upended by Schweigert is baffaling.
I hate being put into a corner like this, as I felt the same way when Mix mania was at it's peak and I had to argue against Mix making an impact, despite the fact I kind of liked him, I just didn't like him THAT much. I do feel that Reed is going to be a starter this year and he's going to do just what he did last year, and thats play solid, mistake free, hard nosed football. Personally I liked Landry a lot better at FS anyway, as I saw it as the more ground Landry gets to cover the more plays he'll get in on, but thats up to the coaching staff. Plus if you look at Landry's highlight tapes, most of the highlights seemed to come when he played FS, of course the problem with that argument is he had more NFL experience when he was moved to FS then when he played at SS (follow?). Anyway I feel that after training camp the Reed-Landry combo will be used more then the Schwiegert-Landry combo though both will probably be used throughout the year especially if matchups dictate that we have a huge advantage playing Landry at SS for a particular game, but I still think that we're going to see more Landry at FS and Reed playing SS. Actually you know what? Fuck it. Schwiegert starts at FS, Doughty starts at SS. Landry can come off the bench in Nickle situations. |
Re: Stuart Schweigert a Redskin
Justin Scott was released about three weeks ago. IMO Schweigert is going to be our starting FS, and Landry is going to move back to SS. Doughty is more of a SS and if it's true that Landry is moving back to SS, than Doughty is going to be his backup because I don't Doughty has the skill set to be a FS. So what I am looking at for the safety position this season is: Landry/Doughty at SS, Schweigert/Moore at FS, and either Horton or Fox making the cut as the fifth safety.
Schweigert might, and I stress might, have the range to be a cover two safety, but he does not have the range to play the cover one type safety that Landry plays. Stu will compete for Doughty's SS spot, but that's his upside. He's a good second safety, but not nearly good enough to make him the guy at free.

He's going to have to improve to keep his spot though, and after all, that is the idea here. |

Both Blache and Schweigert indicated that he's looking to compete at Free Safety. Schweigert even said that he thought Landry was the Strong and he'd compete at Free, though I'm not sure how much of that is a lack of familiarity with the dynamics of the team, though you would think he would have had those sorts of discussions with the coaching staff prior signing. Those post-practice interviews are up on Redskins.com. Wouldn't make much sense to me, but we'll see. |
Re: Stuart Schweigert a Redskin
He seems cool...he's gonna fit in real nice with Cooley and Portis...hopefully he can play.

If you caught the post OTA post pratice video on Redskin.com, Stuart stated he had already been here a few days. I would at least think with some common sense that they covered the position he would be competing for before he signed with the club which happens to be the position hes been playing for years FS. I did go back and watch the video a second time to make sure I heard what I thought I heard the first time. It also was the first I had heard of LL possibly moving back to SS, either way I'm comfortable with LL in either FS OR SS. And Reed, Stuart, Justin or whoever the best man is (whoever works the hardest in camp/pre-season and earns the spot, no matter what we should end up with really solid depth at the Safety position) for the other Safety position. |
This guy stinks. I remember him in Oak getting toasted many many times.
Archuleta in disguise:). But come on now ,hes fast i just think hes a run stopping /hard hitting safety we would need. But i think he'll end up our starter for now. |
Re: Stuart Schweigert a Redskin
LaRon Landry is our FS. He is not getting moved to SS.
All of our other safeties including Schweigert are not good enough to be our FS and allow Landry to move over to SS. Landry's natural position is FS anyway, why move him? From what I read it would be a good career move for Schweigert to move to SS which better suits his strengths (tackling) and protects him from his perceived weakness (coverage). I keep hearing he did not play well at the FS postion just like Reed Doughty two yeas ago. So they are both very similar. I would not be surprised to see the redskins pick up another Safety off waivers when final cuts happen later this summer. A decent safety may become available after final cuts. |
