Re: Redskins June 2009 OTAs
Here's todays write up from Reskins.com. I found it interesting that Largent had to stop the WR's practice to talk to them and give them pointers. Pretty bad when an outsider sees the players doing something that could be fixed and has to call a halt to their practice to tell them and the positions coach failed to do so. Wait we are talking about Stan "The Man" Hixon.
Huh...based on the performance of anyone under Hixon's tutelage I just assumed the guy didn't even make it to practices :) |
Re: Redskins June 2009 OTAs
Man, I can't wait until Training Camp! OTA's are nice but it's really just guys running around in shorts without any contact.

Glad to hear this coming from Rogers. I do think Rogers and Hall compliment each other and together they will make a good CB tandem for our team. The added pressure on the d-line from AH and company should translate into more picks.
Redskins are back to work with OTAs. I thought it would be a good idea to have a thread to discuss them. A good recap on the first day from redskins.com:
Redskins Resume On-Field Work With OTAs Some things to note... - Some vets out for the first day (Landry, Portis, Fletch, and Sellers) - Rogers and Barnes out sick - Orakpo still practicing at SLB - Malcolm Kelly participated fully on the first day - Heyer expected to take over at RT, faces competition - Williams back at 385 lbs. - Samuels is back at his LT spot
Just out of curiosity, what should his playing weight be? |

I believe somewhere between 350 and 360 lbs. |

Hall seems to be more concerned about his Madden rating than who is playing across from him though. Out of all injustices possible, being a 62 in that game has to be up there. |

Has there ever been a problem with a Congressman having a second job? Would it be illegal for DS to hire Largent as the position coach? lol. While he a Congressman?
He hasn't been a congressman since 02; he heads some wireless communications association now |
Re: Redskins June 2009 OTAs
Hixon so needs to be canned now. A guy who's been pretty much out of serious football and is going solely by his experience as a player for a while can catch things he's missed. I'll bet whatever pointers -no matter how 'little' they seemed to be- he gave out will produce some major results this season.

I don't doubt that Steve Largent has a wealth of knowledge about the game, but come on. You really think his short visit to one practice during a voluntary, non-contact session in June is going to produce "major results" during the regular season??? If that's the case, then I could be doing a better job than Hixon. I highly doubt that. I'm not a huge Stan Hixon fan, but really. If he is that bad he'd have been canned a long time ago. In case you haven't noticed, Danny isn't the most patient owner. |
Re: Redskins June 2009 OTAs
Nice article about Malcom Kelly running full speed not at the OTA's. I just hope they really monitor him and keep him fresh until training camp and preseason. As for the other rookie recievers such as M. Mitchel and Jason Williams I hope they have a strong off season and camp. I would like for 1 of them to make the squad and replace long time Redskins J. Thrash. Much love for Thrash for his special teams play and leadership skills. We need more production from our WR corp so Thrash should be released this year. Maybe he will get into coaching.

Re: Redskins June 2009 OTAs
I don't think people realize how often former players go to OTAs and training camps (even practice during the season) and give pointers. This isn't a huge deal

There is no way that he would override the HC in those matters. Having said that, I wish he would, or someone would. Thomas has a Q&A with Mosely over at ESPN, and he says how Moss has taught him this and that, and alot of stuff, but he so far has not said word one about Stan Hixon as a position coach, or how he has learned from him. If any ONE person is on the hot seat this year it SHOULD be Stan Hixon. |

Yeah seriously. Doesn't Joey T. basically live at Redskins Park? I love how the assumption automatically goes to Hixon can't do his job. |
Re: Redskins June 2009 OTAs
I think it is great Largent is stopping practice, a very sick receiver in his day. More advice the better, IMO.
