Re: Dolphins likely to cut Porter before March
no way people. He is 33! not that its too old to play, but why must we be the ones to overpay for overaged players. We have moved past that strategy and will hopefully find young talent in the draft. question could be made for depth, but he doesn't want to be a part-time player. He has said he will not be anything but a starter. We have LB depth. Chris Wilson, I think can be a very good OLB in the 3-4 set. He is quick, and can rush the passer. McIntosh could be/should be moved inside with London and keep Orakpo, Wilson, Carter on the OLB spot. Could even play Carter at DE and mix it up from time to time.
oh boy...London Fletcher is will be 35 soon and just made the pro bowl...this guy has been to a couple already...any complaints about Fletcher? C'mon dude...the "age" thing is BS. He is a proven OLB especially in a 3-4 and learned it as a rook under Haslett. The only difference is the guy is a pain off the field and rubs people the wrong way...Shanny doesn't have problems picking up less than perfect citizens...get used to it...Shanny is Not Gibbs...character is secondary to him. Sure the guy is 2-3 years max...but it is instant production, who gives a crap when if the team ends up carrying 8 LBs if one or two are in their mid 30s...when does it make sense to keep old guys? When they are pro-bowlers. I am not totally into this guy or anything...but look at last years greatest needs...OLB, Oline...neither were really addressed and the need still exists...expecially if you add another LB slot due to scheme...ya, we got away with a bit using Orapko at LB...but that was very risky and I don't even know if that is a long term solution...so arguably, we could use 2 starting OLBs this off season....where are you gunna get them...2 starters from the draft with 5 picks? unlikely. |
Any particular reason he wants to leave Miami? I thought he was doing well there.
I believe Miami started publicly talking trade and he jumped on it saying "me too" This is all pure speculation. Miami will likely get a low pick for him. |
Re: Dolphins likely to cut Porter before March
Yeah as long as you don't give him a ridiculous contract why not? He keeps himself in great shape and is still a productive player. I don't see why he couldn't have another 2-3 quality seasons left.

Re: Dolphins likely to cut Porter before March
Im down for rebuilding with youth, not bringing in older vets with proven attitude problems. When you bring in young guys and college players you always need older vets for to help teach and show leadership in there areas...Oline, LB, Secondary, Receivers, etc. We have a great guy in London Fletcher already in our group of Linebackers. Bringing in Porter (great player no doubt) IMO doesnt add that type of guy we need add at this point. We are rebuilding this coming year and the following most likely, he will be 33, and I am positive he will not play for peanuts, he wants to make some money no doubt. I'm aware there is no salary cap next year, but I feel it will be back and no need to load up on bloated salaries on older players at this point.

Fletcher is the total professional. He is a leader on and off the field. No personality disorders. Porter is a head case. Another prima dona. That is the type of cancer that the Redskins is trying to separate itself from. I would rather see the Skins draft a rookie with potential and character. |

Well said. |
Re: Dolphins likely to cut Porter before March
Didn't we have this same conversation about Jason Taylor 2 seasons ago? You would think we've learned something from that experience. Old players are crap and waste of roster spot...I hope the new staff doesn't repeat the same mistakes.

Re: Dolphins likely to cut Porter before March
We're lucky Vinny is gone...with the expectations that Porter will be cut in the next 2 months, he'd be scrambling to package 3 years of draft picks together for Porter in a trade.

Re: Dolphins likely to cut Porter before March
if he came cheap why not

this is true but porter will probably go to dallas anyway |
Re: Dolphins likely to cut Porter before March
I doubt his massive ego will allow him to come cheap.
Guy's a narcissistic jerk, always been a problem child in locker rooms where ever he went. He'd be perfect for the Cowboys, Raiders or Belichick's collection of big heads. |
Re: Dolphins likely to cut Porter before March
i dont see any quality FA between the ages 27 - 33 coming cheap or accepting a "prove it" 1 or 2 year contract.
porter, wilfork, peppers, b marshall all want long term, lucrative contracts imo. this is their last real big pay day, especially for wilfork who has played 6 seasons under his rookie contract. no way they sign for less than 3 -4 years. no way is it going to be a cheap or modest contract. imo. |
If he's cut why not give him a look? He's still a very productive player.
No harm in that. Seems like nobody wants ANYONE that we don't draft. Oh, and they have to be O-Line. |

Huh? |
Re: Dolphins likely to cut Porter before March
How about instead of Porter we sign possibly-soon-a-UFA Adalius Thomas?
