Re: Eagles release B. Westbrook, per NFL Network
I'm not trying to Skins bash but just trying to compare and contrast the styles of competitive teams in this league against ours.
The Eagles organization basically cut their best standout offensive player when he was close to his peak, up or down. That had to be a tough decision for them to make but it was made and with no real dire consequences to them other than sentimental as they have young replacements ready to pick up that slack. The Eagles made a decision like this last year when they cut a pivotal defenseman in Brain Dawkins, yet their team as a whole still managed to make the playoffs. Where do you think we'd be next year if we, contractual consequences aside, cut Portis and Fletcher this offseason? Our hopes on next season would seem really dim compared to the more competitive teams in the league. Bottom line, to me, is we'll be more competitive NFL wide when we finally bring in the long overdue depth we've needed since the Snyder spending spree days. Here's to seeing our Skins grow deeper and stronger...Hail to the Redskins.
That sounds good maybe cutting them is the reason they only scratched their way into the playoffs. Maybe with those two players they do more. |

???...They went to the NFC Championship last year and (technically) tied for first in the NFC East with an 11-5 record. They've been pretty solid year in, year out. They run a more scheme dependent structure than talent dependent one. Since 2000 the eagles have 103 wins in the regular season, we have 70 in that same span. That's a two perfect season disparity after 10 years. They've clearly been scheme oriented in that time where we've relied on a talent heavy format. ...Not going down on them but I have to applaud them for making tough decisions like cutting one of the faces of their franchise and believing they'll be a better team for it. |

Bad week for the Westbrook family.

I like Donovan, but I think this releasing of Westbrook is the first sign of a major rehaul in the works for Philly over the next few seasons. Donovan has peaked, and needs to be shopped around now to get maximum value. |
Re: Eagles release B. Westbrook, per NFL Network
Not surprising that he was (or will be) cut. It was expected. What's shocking is that Byron Westbrook has an NFL job and Brian doesn't.
Maybe we could sign Brian Westbrook and have him pretend to be Byron during the week...who of course spends the week pretending to be Brian. Won't that be fun?!
My mind is officially blown. |
Re: Eagles release B. Westbrook, per NFL Network
Did anyone see the 11pm SportsCenter tonight? They thought they had Brian Westbrook on the phone. Scott Van Pelt was doing the interview. Whoever was on the phone pretending to be Westbrook said that they have nothing but respect for Andy Reid and the Eagles franchise, and that he will now devote the rest of his career to the worship of Howard Stern's prostate. LOL. SVP and Steve Levy's reaction was hilarious.

Apparently their strategy is to get rid of guys about a year before they think they're going to crash. They did the same thing with Brian Dawkins, Troy Vincent, Tra Thomas, Jon Runyan, etc etc. So they might have a good year with a new team but not much more is expected after that. |
