Re: Can the Redskins move back to RFK?
Agreed with the above poster.
Although I believe it is so bad with opposing team fans invading FedEx field because of whoever is in charge of tickets, selling group seats/discounts for fans of opposing teams to come and see the game there. Someone can correct me if I'm wrong, but i believe that is the reason why the steelers invaded us on that monday night game in 2008. As long as the Redskins care more about selling tickets, instead of making sure the tickets go to skins fans, we will always have this problem.
No the reason why teams invade our stadium is because the people that complain about the stadium never buy tickets and go to the game. I had season tickets and I could not give some tickets away to skins fans. If fans would stop bitching and buy tickets we would not have that problem. Winning would also help. |
Re: Can the Redskins move back to RFK?
Always thought they should run their preseason games there, they average under what RFK holds so why not?
That number is only substantial if compared to our record on the road during that time period. If you're bored again Gman, could you run those numbers?
Of Course: 97- 3-5 98- 2-6 99- 4-5 (0-1 Playoffs) 00- 4-4 01- 4-4 02- 2-6 03- 2-6 04- 3-5 05- 5-5 (1-1 playoffs) 06- 2-6 07- 4-4 08- 4-4 09- 1-7 10- 3-2 So that is: 43-69 on the road... wow... I really didn't think we were that bad on the road..... There you have it though...Hopefully I'm not off on these. |
Re: Can the Redskins move back to RFK?
BTW...this team is so predictable
I bet anybody we beat the Giants on the road (Playoff team) Beat Tampa at home (Playoff team) Beat Jacksonville on the road (possible playoff team) But somehow NOT make the Playoffs losing to dallas on the road (finished) Or lose the Home game finale against the Giants in a "win, we are in" scenario That's just how we roll...:cheeky-sm |

Re: Can the Redskins move back to RFK?
I know this may be pointless because it's not going to happen but this team has NO Homefield advantage at FedEx. You look at teams like Baltimore, Atlanta, GB, Pitts etc and teams know going in that it's a dogfight. I feel lie opposing teams are playing at a neutral site in Landover. I'd like to know what our record is all time at FedEx? I bet it's under .500 or pretty close. This team was great at RFK and actually had an advantage there.
Have you been to RFK lately?! Its a dump. |
Re: Can the Redskins move back to RFK?
^ no but shit atleast it was a tough place for opposing teams to play in.

I think that had more to do with how good the Skins were rather than the stadium. |
Re: Can the Redskins move back to RFK?
Back when this team was at RFK, they were winning on a consistent basis. The new generation fans didn't have the luxury of being able to watch this team during its glory years. I would imagine in today's economy and the recent history of this team, fans generally probably don't care much for going to watch the Redskins play. Lord knows I don't have the money to shell out for season tickets (nor do I live close enough to attend all the home games.)
It was a special time to be a Redskins fan. So many great memories there. Fed Ex is simply not a good stadium nor is it a home field advantage like Seattle, Balt or KC. |

I agree but FedEx has been critized by skins fans for years. When GB played there I swear it sounded like we were on the road. |
Because I'm that bored, here is our record at FedEx
97- 5-2-1 98- 4-4 99- 6-2 99- 1-0 (playoffs) 00 -4-4 01-4-4 02-5-3 03-3-5 04-3-5 05-6-2 06-2-6 07-5-3 08-4-4 09-3-5 10-2-4 So after today, we're 57-53-1.
And, for some comparison, our first 13.5 years at RFK. Remember only 14 game seasons back then. 61: 1-6 62: 2-5 63: 1-6 64: 4-3 65: 3-4 66: 4-3 67: 3-3-1 68: 3-4 69: 4-2-1 70: 4-3 71: 3-3-1 72: 6-1 73: 7-0 74: 5-1 50-44-3. Also, our last five years at RFK 96: 5-3 95: 3-5 94: 0-8 93: 3-5 92: 6-2 So...I don't know that RFK's home field advantage is as legendary as we may have remembered it to be |

We had a great home field advantage there in the 80s when the team was a powerhouse. That's what it boils down to. |
Re: Can the Redskins move back to RFK?
We probably wouldn't even be having this discussion if the team was winning games. The frustration that comes with not winning leads to various reasons as to why.
The team has not played well since moving to Landover, whether the stadium itself has anything to do with it is open to conjecture. TBH, the teams we've fielded since moving there have not been considered very good teams. The team may eventually move back to the City, but don't expect a move anytime soon and definitely not back to RFK. |
Re: Can the Redskins move back to RFK?
I would think that bigger stadiums quickly become smaller home field advantages. Simply put, when a team is winning, the seats will mainly be filled by that teams fanbase, but if a team starts playing mediocre or poorly, a large stadium will attract the opponents teams fanbase because more seats are available. Add to that DC's proximity to a lot of other football fans cities (2hrs to pitt, NyJ,NYG, and Philly, a little more for Carolina), plus DC's own weird mix of allegiances and you get a stadium that will easily be overshadowed by other fans. (It was interesting to hear the Saints fans take over the new Cowboys stadium at points on Thanksgiving day:) ).
If the Skins field a consistent winning team FedEx will rock, until then, homefield is just another stadium. |
Re: Can the Redskins move back to RFK?
I thought I had heard something a while back about Snyder wanting to build a new stadium close to RFK, but I'm sure that was probably nothing serious nor would it be anything that would happen soon.
It really all comes down to the fact that the teams this franchise has put on the field since moving into Fedex and even a bit prior were mediocre to bad teams. So, that's going to send bad vibes as it is. And I'm sure that the number of Redskins fans who bought tickets at RFK have dropped off since the team just doesn't win on a regular basis anymore. That in combination of higher ticket prices plus the economy puts a bind on the average fan attending an NFL game. So, there might be something to the notion that those who attend the games are higher up execs who really don't follow the 'skins as closely as a lot of us do. |
