Re: The 2011 NFL Combine Discussion Thread
I dunno I thought Mallet handled himself well. He wanted to discuss his situation with his potential employers first, rather than dealing with the mediots. I get that.
Out of curiosity, I viewed the Mallet interview and came away with a favorable impression. Some people love to jump on the band wagon of flaming the rumors about drug use. The print media is so jacked-up about Cam Newton that they will do anything to discredit any other QB. I would take Mallet any day over Newton. Cam is a good actor and should pursue a career in acting after his football stay. |
Re: The 2011 NFL Combine Discussion Thread
Sure he doesn't want to talk about it, but the rumors have been there for a while. Like the one reporter said, he's going to have to address it at some point, so he might as well just answer the questions. I mean, Cam Newton knows he's going to get grilled about his red-flags. You simply have to man up and answer the tough questions. That what these interview sessions are all about.
Plus, how about his smart-ass, arrogant response to questions about his on the field decision making: “Seven thousand-plus yards and 60 touchdowns in two seasons. That’s how I respond to that.” Really, Ryan? That's very mature of you. Side note- A friend of mine who is also a co-worker is an Arkansas native/alumnus. He told me over a year ago about the rumors that Mallett is a big fan of the nose candy. This stuff has been floating around about him for a while.
The Matt Jones Arkansas connection? |
Dude cmon really. I was thinking Mallet = Rivers. He throws a tight ball
Mallett has a very fine arm. But I don't see Shanny drafting him due to his lead feet. |

He's not a Shanahan type of QB that's for sure. He's going to be a statue in the pocket. But at least he's big enough to take the punishment, and he should be able to muscle his way out of some sacks. |

Re: The 2011 NFL Combine Discussion Thread
@ Matty, I dont really know how to explain why but he just seems like he has the type of attitude or personality of people I've know that drugs. This is the only interview I've ever seen of him though, but he just seems like a dude that likes to party.
@Gmscud, yeah I thought that comment really made him come across as a douch bag |

Mark Ingram = explosive (10-yard shuttle). If someway he's available at 10, take him.

Looks like Newton may have just stayed with a choreographed Pro Day
How come it seems like the dissenting or minority opinion that doesn't put their name to their statements gets the most pub?
At least one veteran scout was far less impressed by his workout. The scout, who works for a team that has no short-term or long-term need at the quarterback position, said that Newton “looks terrible.” Opinions may very well vary. The reality, however, is that teams that love a player will be inclined to say bad things about him, both to throw other teams off the scent and in the hopes that the player will be available when the team uses its first draft pick. Teams that hate a player will be inclined to say they love a player, in the hopes that someone else will burn a pick on the guy, pushing truly coveted players farther done the board. In this case, our source would be far more inclined to rave about Newton, ensuring that he’ll be taken with an early pick.
I have a hard team beleiving a veteran scout is going be forthright w/ a member of the media like Florio. |

Mike Mayock, for what it's worth, was not concerned with Newton's issues today. He simpy brushed it off as him throwing to the receivers and not to a spot. Measurables are all top tier, looks fluid and comfortable. Mayock did however left with the caveat that there is two months remaining to discover his other issues. |
