I'm with Ruhskins. Although Cofield is a good player, I fear a square peg-round hole situation.

I hope I am wildly wrong.

So far I have been very pleased with the moves. A lot of budget-friendly signings and the loyalty shown to Santana to not drag things out has been nice, just like he asked. Only thing we need to do now is move Haynesworth and we've already had a successful off-season in my opinion.

I can see us playing a variety of fronts with the guys we have.

Cofield was a good pickup. He's not an elite DT but he works and hell make a play or two for us definetly.

Not based on anything, but I wouldn't be surprised to see more 4-3 formations this season.

What does this mean for Fat Al?

Nothing, since he probably wasn't in the Redskins plans at all. This probably affects other D-Linemen such as Daniels.

hey, never even thought of moving back to the 43, But would osackpo and the rookie lb stay as lbs or line up on the end? i guess there are a variety of things they could try.....

Golston, Jarmon

Re: Report: Redskins Agree to Terms with Barry Cofield

Cofield is versatile. He is stout at the point of attack and won't give ground in the run game, and he also can flash a bit of quickness to penetrate once in a while. Good solid all-around space eater, gets off blocks reasonably well, I like the move.

I can remember plenty of 'Skins Giants games where we went 2 or 3 yards and a cloud of dust because we couldn't seem to move Cofield in the middle. Not that our offensive line were world-beaters, mind you. But he's capable of altering the plans of the offense in some fashion, he's hard to run at and hard to move off the ball.

I'd like to see him at end so he can help keep blockers off Orakpo and Kerrigan.

Hopefully they cut Golston.

He's a free agent.

^ SS listed Golston as "maybe" one of the players we resign soon.....

I guess the locks for DL are:
Carriker
Jenkins
Cofield
Maybe Golston

and then Anthony Bryant, Holliday, Jarmon, Neild and Haynesworths. In that order is my guess. If we add a true NT things could really get shaken up!

Re: Report: Redskins Agree to Terms with Barry Cofield

As I've said earlier, this is the move I wanted more than any other. I think it will be great. He is reasonably talented, will fill our much needed NT, we take him from the giants, and most importantly he is young.
Also I don't think his contract is unreasonable. I think of it as the same as Andre Carter's 6 year 30 mil contract he got 5 years ago. Salary cap goes up, so does the salaries. Hopefully he can contribute like Carter, and not some other players signed that year.

edit: and for the record, I want Chris Chester next on the list. I think young guys that have shown they can hold their own should be our priority. Cullen Jenkins is my one execption to this rule. But that's only because I believe he will help us transition properly to the 3-4, be able to tell haslett the way things were done in GB, provide leadership in the lockeroom which will hopefully help change the culture of the redsinks for years to come. The culture of a team I feel is important, and I feel ours needs to be changed. I'd honestly hope that we'd trade Chris Cooley (and start Davis) if not for his locker room influence. We need veterans like Chris to help change our culture, we need everyone to be on board with the coaches. For the record, Orakpo IMO has displayed this more than anyone and I will enjoy watching him develop into a leader on our team.
