Re: Pregame Thread: Redskins vs Colts

I like McCoy 'cuz he's from UT and seems like a good guy, but I feel pretty confident in saying that writing him off as a backup is perfectly reasonable. People point to the big win against Dallas and their amazing defense and the other impressive victory against undefeated Tennessee, but McCoy has 1 passing TD that was all Garcon, a bad interception in the end zone against Dallas, and has led the offense to what... 33 points in almost 7 quarters against two bad defenses? And I'm afraid some people have conveniently forgotten about that sack he took against Dallas that knocked us out of field goal range(see, it's not just RG that does that).

But yeah, if McCoy actually plays well over the next several weeks, I'll be cheering louder than anyone.

I hope so too because when he reads what you have to say......oh boy!

No one thinks McCoy is the savior of this franchise. I think fans and probably the coaches, just want to see the Receivers do more than just run down the field waiving their arms in frustration. And stop seeing RG3 get jack hammered into the turf. And see the Offense score more that 6 or 7 points a game. They aren't putting McCoy in because they think he's the answer for the next 10 years.

He's playing because RG3 couldn't show the capacity to play the QB position at even the most basic level.

Good points on McCoy although he threw a nice deep ball to DJax that would have been a TD if not for PI. He's definitely nothing more than a career journeyman backup who started the year as a third stronger. I think it says more about Robert that he couldn't keep such a mediocre guy on the bench.

Egg-sackly. This is almost still an evaluation on RG-3 imo. If Colt continues to have success than we can stop blaming everyone else.

Unnamed person in this thread: "Everything he's done in Washington so far has shown he can be a starter for this franchise."

And yeah, I agree with your other points. I'm all about letting guys play to develop, but not before they're ready(Griffin isn't). I agree with the decison to start McCoy, I just don't think he's anything other than a serviceable backup that will get us to the offseason on all fours instead of crawling on our belly.

Yep, and Griffin had a perfectly placed bomb against Tampa Bay that Garcon dropped.

This will be the game where we see our real defense show up again... We've played some really crappy offenses the last couple games. The offense will play better, but we'll need more then 30 to have a shot.

Isn't it actually Gruden's job to judge RG3?

I bet you were one of the people screaming "Give Jason Campbell a chance!" when he was shitting all over the Skins in 2009.

p.s. Yes I know Zorn had a hand in that.

Listening to Cooley on the evening drive today. He says McCoy has a great relationship with the offense already and they believe he can move the offense. He adds that practice has been Sharp this week as a result.
We HAVE pretty good weapons on the O. But we have to have somebody at the helm that can facilitate the operation of it. Who knows? Maybe he can get some things done until we figure out a.....permanent direction at QB.

Ill tell you what if they move the ball well over the next few weeks and get some w's ill forever wonder how this season would have gone had Colt stayed the starter (which i thought he earned against dallas) after Griff came back. Whether Gruden wanted him or Snyder wanted To see what we had in Griff or any combination of who wanted what. Im past the drama, but I wont get over the what could have been for this season. I truly think Colt would have put us over the top against San Fran and Minny. Those two wins would be huge rite now. Not to mention maybe Gruden wanted KC in week one?. Remember how abysmal our offense was in that game? Does KC get us another score?
Thats three wins left on the table hedging someones bet on Griff.

I guess you're talking about me.

I never said those words, so if you are going to quote someone. You should do it correctly or you just look like an ass.

I said he's done everything right for this franchise and deserves his shot to play. Shit, we've had John fucking Beck get his shot and Rex Grossman. Both of which have played better then RG3 has this season.

Colt be the answer the next 10 years? No, most likely not.. Doesn't mean he can't be the answer for the next 4-5 while we develop an O-Line and Safety.
