Re: Report: Redskins to unveil drawings of new stadium, location tbd
Doesn't DC own the land that RFK is on? I might be wrong but if they or the federal gov't own it it definitely wouldn't be a moot point. And RFK is like the only spot in DC big enough for a stadium.
That is correct. Somehow I think that's where it will end up. At this point there is no other place in the DC area to put a stadium. |
Re: Report: Redskins to unveil drawings of new stadium, location tbd
The new stadium is going to be in Va unless the mood changes in he next 5-7 years. The state made a huge push to get training camp and even kicked money in from the state General fund.
DC will want it but the cost is going to be prohibitive unless Danny can finagle a deal to sell FedEx for a mint and just pay for the the land and building himself. Also DC is not likely to sell the RFK site to him I wouldn't think. That's really the only viable site in DC proper. Maryland seems out of it. No decent options with proper metro access and they don't seem terribly keen, at least publicly. They have the luxury of already having a team in state so losing one wouldn't be catastrophic. Of course all of this is the situation now. It could all change in just a few years so we'll see. |

Once the name issue dies down (which it will IMO) and if the team continues to be successful, I think DC politicians will balk. |
Re: Report: Redskins to unveil drawings of new stadium, location tbd
I think so too. Just have a hard time seeing DC selling him the RFK site and it's even harder for me to see Danny building a stadium he doesn't own.

they'd use it for concerts and college games i'd guess. it's kind of a terrible site cause of the parking and lack of proper roads (for the traffic it causes). not being covered is also an issue for some of the people that'd want to rent it too i imagine. |

What colleges? Maryland has their own place as does Navy. My thought is Dan has to figure some way of getting some cash out of it becuase that is a big piece of the value of this team .I doubt he can build a new one without selling the old one unless he builds a new one where Fed Ex is now,it already has the infrastructure. |

But again, it comes down to location. Just can't really think of anywhere in Va that would make sense, or anywhere where there is enough land and is near public transportation. |

It will probably just sit there and rot. Maybe a few college games will be played there but that's it. Va Tech and Notre Dame I think played there a few years ago. Maybe a bowl game as well. |
Re: Report: Redskins to unveil drawings of new stadium, location tbd
I would be curious to see if Maryland would take it over. They have to be drawing bigger crowds being in the Big 10 with bigger schools than the ACC (other than FSU most of the schools are medium to smaller in size). There is no way they fill it to capacity but Byrd stadium is crap too.

they've done a few college games there, a couple got 80k people out if i remember correctly. it wouldn't be a single college's normal venue, it'd be for special events and bowl games. |

SBD: The Redskins team up with a Danish firm on a new stadium, but the location remains a mystery, by @breakground. sportsbusinessdaily.com/Daily/Issues/2…
